In short, Byakuya planned to awaken his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, but that would have to wait until he traveled to the Attack on Titan world.
For now, there were still too many unresolved matters in Tokyo Ghoul, and he wouldn't consider leaving until everything was settled.
One of those things was the specialized synthetic food for ghouls...
[Ding! The host has successfully purchased the "Ghoul-Specialized Food Formula" Attribute Points -300. Current Attribute Points: 1,550!]
Now that he had the formula, all he had to do was wait for Dr. Kanou and Ogura to officially join CCG.
He found Marude and asked "What's the situation with Dr. Kanou and Ogura?"
"Kanou has agreed and already returned from Germany. As for Ogura, he's still hesitant—probably because he's too accustomed to his current work as a ghoul researcher."
"Understood. Honestly, even if we only get one of them, that's fine. If Ogura really doesn't want to join, there's no need to force him" Byakuya replied.
Although Ogura was a skilled researcher, Kanou was the true genius.
Back in university, the two had been classmates. Ogura was always a solid second place, but Kanou had been leagues ahead, an uncontested number one.
"Dr. Kanou should be arriving at Tokyo Airport soon" Marude added after checking the time.
"Alright, I'll go pick him up myself" Byakuya said.
"Wait, what? There's no need for you to go personally, Director! Any investigator could handle this" Marude blurted out in surprise.
After all, while Dr. Kanou was a respected medical mind, he hadn't exactly made any groundbreaking achievements yet. His actual capabilities were still unproven.
"It's fine" Byakuya replied simply.
Only he knew the truth—Kanou wasn't just a talented scientist. He was a mad genius.
If Kanou could be convinced to work for the CCG fully, the research on special ghoul food would progress at an unimaginable speed.
"Well, alright then. I'll come along, too" Marude decided, curious about why Byakuya valued this man so highly.
Marude had checked Dr. Kanou's flight schedule, so they arrived just in time at the airport.
It wasn't long before they spotted a relatively young-looking Kanou.
Right now, he was in his late 30s to early 40s, and his hair was still free of any gray.
Although he had just returned from years of studying in Germany, everyone knew how brutal medical school was...
And Kanou wasn't just any doctor — he had a Ph.D.
"Dr. Kanou, I'm Itsuki Marude, the one who contacted you earlier. This is Uchiha Byakuya, the Director of the CCG" Marude introduced.
"Director Byakuya, it's truly an honor" Kanou greeted with a respectful tone.
Clearly, he hadn't expected the head of the CCG himself to personally come and receive him.
"No need to be so formal. After all, we were the ones who invited you" Byakuya said warmly.
From there, Byakuya planned to have a private conversation with Kanou.
They returned to CCG Headquarters, and only Byakuya and Kanou remained inside the Director's office.
"I have a general understanding of your work, Dr. Kanou. You've been secretly researching ghouls, haven't you?" Byakuya got straight to the point.
Kanou flinched slightly. "…Yes."
He clearly hadn't expected the CCG to have discovered his private experiments.
While it wasn't exactly illegal, it certainly wasn't something that would look good on his record. This could easily be used as blackmail to destroy his career.
However, Kanou didn't care about his career.
His family owned Kanou General Hospital, so his financial future was secure. More importantly, his obsession with ghoul research was something he would never abandon, no matter the consequences.
So, he admitted it without hesitation.
"That's exactly why I wanted to recruit you" Byakuya said.
Then, he placed a document in front of Kanou.
"Do you recognize this formula?"
Kanou glanced at it. It was something completely unfamiliar yet oddly intriguing.
Certain ingredients stood out, sparking his curiosity.
"This… seems to be related to ghouls," he guessed.
"That's right. This formula can create a viable food substitute for ghouls—one that completely replaces human flesh" Byakuya explained.
"And it's not even the final version. It can be improved further"
Kanou's eyes widened slightly. "You want me to lead this research?"
"Exactly."
Byakuya nodded. "Beyond that, I also believe that a ghoul's kagune, their RC cells… all of it could be revolutionary for medical science—not just for making weapons"
At that, Kanou immediately sat up straight.
Because that was his own belief.
For the first time, he had met someone who shared his vision—and that person was none other than the Director of the CCG.
With support from a man of this level, he would have no more obstacles.
He could dedicate himself entirely to his research on ghouls.
"I'll provide you with assistants, funding—everything you need. Your only job is to focus on research" Byakuya assured him.
Of course, Byakuya was already thinking ahead.
Once the dragon cell and dragon toxin came into play, he would entrust all of that to Kanou as well. But for now, it was too soon to mention those things.
There was no reason for Kanou to refuse.
Without hesitation, he agreed.
