Chapter 77 - Ch 77. Summoning Jutsu-Barrier Poles & Space Seals

In his lab, Ron was working on a towering metallic structure that resembled a massive pole, its design loosely inspired by Hashirama Senju's Myojinmon. However, unlike the legendary red torii that once restrained the Ten-Tails, this construct was neither as colossal nor meant for sealing a tailed beast. Standing at a height of 100 meters with a proportional diameter, it was primarily composed of reinforced metal, embedded with intricate sealing formations.

Standing beside it, Ron explained, "This is a seal generator that can produce a chakra barrier, the strength of which depends entirely on the user's chakra output. If a sufficient amount of chakra is supplied, even a Jonin could temporarily deploy a barrier comparable to the Uzumaki Clan's Six Red Yang Formation. While the principles are similar, this barrier, when infused with Black Lightning or standard Lightning Release rather than the fire attribute like Red-Yang Formation. Any enemy that comes into contact with it will be electrocuted and sizzled, much like how the Six Red Yang Formation burns those who touch it. Additionally, weaker versions of the barrier, like normal barriers, can also be formed using these poles, depending on the situation, by supplying general chakra."

He gestured toward the base of the structure, where a network of sealing inscriptions connected to a core mechanism. "I've designed it so that barrier generation isn't reliant on complex hand seals but is instead controlled through a chakra metal processor. This processor integrates sealing techniques with an embedded logic system, allowing it to form barriers dynamically. More importantly, it optimizes chakra consumption. Instead of generating a single solid barrier, it produces a grid of interlocking triangular segments, which enables the user to adjust the barrier's size based on necessity. After all, they might only need to block a powerful frontal attack rather than encase themselves completely, which would be a waste of chakra. However, to create a fully enclosed barrier on all sides, at least three poles must be deployed to form a stable structure."

Ed, who was assisting with the project, nodded in understanding but raised a question. "But Ron, if the chakra metal processor can generate a complete spherical barrier, why would the user need three poles? Couldn't a single pole form a hollow sphere of interlocking triangular barriers around the user? Or is it a size limitation?"

Ron nodded. "Precisely. A single barrier pole can generate a barrier covering an area of up to 1,000 square feet, which is sufficient to fully enclose an individual. However, using three poles significantly reduces the chakra burden on the user. Instead of forcing a single pole to form a complex spherical structure, three poles can efficiently create a more stable, energy-efficient formation, a tetrahedral barrier made of four large triangular faces."

"The advantage of generating small triangular segments rather than a single solid sheet is control. Users can modify the size of their barrier in real-time. However, there's a trade-off, while smaller triangular segments require less chakra overall, they also lack stability when forming curved surfaces, such as a sphere. To make a curved barrier as strong as a single-sheet barrier, additional chakra reinforcement is needed. That's why, for defending against large-scale attacks, such as a Tailed Beast Bomb, a three-pole setup is ideal.

"Furthermore, since each pole is limited to producing a 1,000-square-foot barrier, defending a wider area such as a base or strategic location requires multiple ninjas coordinating with several poles to form a large-scale, interlocking barrier network."

Ed exhaled in amazement. "So, in essence, it's a modular barrier system that can scale based on available chakra and the number of users. That's genius, but will ninjas carry these around in sealed scrolls?"

Ron allowed himself a small smile. "It's practical. A single ninja might not be able to summon a fortress-level defense, but with proper coordination, even a small squad could protect an entire outpost from a large-scale attack."

"But, these things have chakra metal inside, there's no way I am going to allow ninjas to carry them around, and when my old man hears about it, he will definitely ask me to make a lot of them, so I have, made them summonable through summoning contract, when summoned the poles will fall in front of you to and could be instantly deployed, rather than unsealing it from a storage seal. In addition, each will have a chakra battery, which will be charged by the village, so that ninjas summoning them have to bear less cost"

The towering pole stood silently as the two continued their work, moving on to create multiple ones, as both focused. Ron asked, "Ed, how was the research on the seal I asked them to do?"

Ed let out a tired sigh as he reviewed the latest research updates, then turned to Ron. "Out of the 300-plus seal applications and new sealing techniques you wanted us to test over the past year, over 100 have been successful. Some of them are already in use in the village, like the identification seals for security checkpoints, large-scale barrier systems, and surveillance networks. The rest are still being refined."

He paused for a moment before continuing. "However, the improved storage system based on sealing scrolls is still a work in progress. We've made progress on the aspect of the seal that slows down time for inanimate objects, which would allow us to store massive food reserves in sealed containers without worrying about spoilage or degradation due to prolonged freezing. But right now, we can only slow time by a factor of four. It's useful, but not yet the breakthrough we need for long-term preservation."

"As for space seals and stabilization seals," he added, rubbing the back of his head, "we still have a long way to go. Even the most advanced storage scrolls from the Uzumaki Clan can only create a few cubic meters of temporary space, and they still require multiple stabilization and spatial reinforcement seals to remain functional. So far, we've managed to create a stabilized space of about 100 cubic meters, but it required inscribing a complex system of interwoven seals onto a large, immovable object. The issue is that the object itself is far too large to be carried, let alone stored inside another scroll. It's impractical for field use."

Ron nodded thoughtfully. "I understand. If large-scale spatial storage were that easy, then during past ninja wars, shinobi wouldn't have needed to transport supplies using carts. It makes sense that the process is still incredibly difficult. But keep pushing forward, I'll work on it when I have time. Just be careful when experimenting with spatial seals. The risks aren't something to take lightly."

Ed gave a serious nod, fully aware of the dangers. Spatial storage seals worked by piercing a hole into space and stretching a tiny fragment of reality into a self-contained bubble. This required a delicate balance between spatial stabilization seals and formation seals to keep the pocket dimension from collapsing or becoming unusable. Mistakes could lead to space collapsing on itself, creating a massive explosion that released fragments of everything inside. Of course, nothing to worry about with normal storage seals, as even if they became unstable, at most it will release its contents with a little force from the scroll, due to the stretched space collapsing, but now they were stretching that space to create a larger bubble, so when it collapsed it will generate more force.

For instance, Ron concluded that Obito's Kamui didn't actually create new space in the way that Kaguya's dimensions or storage scrolls did. Instead, it functioned by generating a temporary, parallel space that mirrored the real world but was centered around him. Technically, the size of his Kamui dimension was only limited by his chakra reserves; if he had the power, he could sustain it as large as the entire world. Since his movements in Kamui space corresponded directly with movements in the real world, then he could appear anywhere in the world, instead of needing to teleport multiple times, as usually with each teleport centering on himself his Kamui would generate another mirrored space, which would go to the edge of, then appear in reality and repeat to travel.

Understanding such intricacies only emphasized how difficult true spatial manipulation was. Creating even a small, stable, and portable spatial storage system remained a difficult goal, one that would require continued refinement and breakthroughs in sealing techniques, of course, that maybe due to Ron, not really focusing on it yet!
