Chapter 23 - The Third Hokage’s power

"Tsk." Shiro was pissed.

Despite him using everything he got he was only able to take out one opponent.

It's not like he was unable to harm the others. It's just that taking down a Chunin who was on guard is hard for Shiro with his limited Chakra reserve.

"Tate. Can you still fight?" Tsurugi said.

Her arm was bleeding and her Chakra was running low.

"I am out of Chakra. And my Vacuum Plum is not lethal enough out put them down."

Just like Shiro and Tsurugi, Tate was also at the end of his wits.

And not only that he also has a small hole near his abdomen that was bleeding a lot.

"But still we have to hold on otherwise we might just die," Tate replied.

But his body was starting to become wary and he looked like he was about to fall to the ground sooner or later.

"Just give up. You have already ruined the plans of our boss. Just let your weapon down and we will make this as painless as possible." one of the enemy ninja said.

"After all We don't like killing kids as much as the others." he followed up.

Tate seems like he is going to accept the proposal but at that moment someone throws a giant shuriken towards the enemy Ninja.

"Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu."

The voice of an oldman was heard as the giant shuriken spit into three and sliced through the bodies of the enemies.

Shiro remembered the voice as he just talked to him a few days ago to receive the mission.

It belongs to Hiruzen, the Third Hokage.

"Earth Style. Earth Dragon Bullet." He said as two dragon-shaped beings made entirely out of earth and mud took down two more enemy shinobi by decapitating them.

"Summoning Technique." he then summoned a monkey that was around the same size as a fully grown adult human.

The monkey then transformed into a pole and Hiruzen wielded it too easily overwhelming the enemies while skilfully avoiding the three Genins from team 1.

"He is strong," Shiro muttered.

He was shocked that a Shinobi could be this strong.

"How is that even possible? He is only an old man." Tate and Tsurugi were also surprised.

He is not only strong but also smart too.

Shiro thought as he realized that the third Hokage was not only overwhelming the opponents but also doing it in a way where the enemies were unable to target Team 1.

"We have to get away from here. The old man is too strong." One of the surviving Chunin yelled out.

They then ran away while Hiruzen watched them flee.

He did not follow them as he did not need to. The village where the Shinobi comes from is a small village that cannot threaten Konoha and he does not want to kill others mindlessly.

There were around twelve Shinobi that went after Shiro and his friends but only six survived.

One was taken out by Shiro but the remaining five were taken out by Hiruzen.

Shiro realized that he still had a long way to go before blacking out from blood loss and fatigue.

"Shiro," Tate said as he ran towards Shiro to check on him as Tsurugi sat down on the ground to catch her breath.

He then looked at Shiro, Tate and Tsurugi.

*****

Two days have passed.

"What happened?" Shiro said as he woke up in a hospital bed.

He looked around and realized where he was.

He then tries to get out of bed.

His body was a bit stiff and the area around his left leg hurt but it was not to the point where the pain was unbearable.

He waited for a while to see if anyone would show up.

After waiting for about ten minutes he saw Hayate arrive with a small basket.

"Oh. You are awake." He said as he smiled.

He then took a chair and placed it near Shiro's bed.

"What happened?" Shiro asked.

"You experienced what it is like to be a true Shinobi," Hayama said to him.

"Normally it happens when a Genin has already gained some experience but your team was unlucky and was assigned a very dangerous mission early."

"I see," Shiro replied with a dejected expression.

"So what is your choice going to be?" Hayama asked.

"What?" Shiro was confused.

"A boy from your team said that he is going to quit being a ninja because he suffered a lifelong injury. And the girl said that she is going to continue being a Shinobi but will take a break for about a year to fully prepare herself." Hayama laid out the news.

"!" Shiro was stunned when he heard Hayama's words.

"And you are quite lucky. I don't know how but the doctor said that your recovery is faster than a normal human. Otherwise, you might be unable to become a Ninja anymore."

"What about our jonin squad leader?" Shiro asked.

"It seems that he is still alive and had some kind of communication with the Hokage. I don't know much since it is out of my rights to meddle with the Hokage's secrets." Hayate replied.

He then looked at Shiro with a serious expression and asked the question again.

"So what is your choice going to be? If you want to get a regular shop I can help you get one that will give you a livable wage." Hayate asked again.

"I have no plans to retire being a Shinobi," Shiro replied.

"That's the spirit," Hayate said as he put a small slip of paper in the hands of Shiro.

"What is this?" Shiro asked as he looked at the piece of paper.

"That's the recommendation for the Chunin exams. The third Hokage was surprised that you were able to take down a Chunin-level shinobi in your last mission and asked me to give it to you if you decided to continue being a Shinobi."

"He also asked me to tell you to come and see him if you get out of the hospital."

"The old man did?" Shiro asked.

"Remember to try and carry favour with him. After all, he is the only one who has access to a room full of scrolls that have many powerful jutsu imprinted upon them" Hayate whispered to Shiro.

"Who knows? He might let you read one. I heard that the Uzumaki kid was able to learn multi-shadow clone jutsu from one of the scrolls because of it."

Shiro was surprised when he heard Hayate's words.

After all, from his knowledge, Naruto was a loser from the academy who struggles with even a normal ninjutsu like clone jutsu.
