When the sword was finished, Tsubaki approached, startled.
"What was that? The sword changed? How did you do that?"
She was more excited than scared by my ability.
This is why I didn't want to forge anything in front of her. Now she's going to start asking me about it. Well, I guess I'll just play dumb and say I don't know what happened. Or I could just say it's a secret.
What should I say?
"It's a secret," I told her, swinging the sword.
A sword with four abilities—I think this is the first time I've forged something like this. Now I'm curious to forge swords with other materials to see what kinds of abilities I can get.
If I get a really strong monster item, I'll probably be able to make a powerful sword. I'll have to test that in the future.
"Alright, let me see it." Tsubaki tried to take the sword from my hand, but I didn't let her.
"Wait a second. First, I need to explain how this sword works."
"I already know how a sword works."
"That's not what I meant, you idiot. I need to explain how the sword's abilities work. It has a lot of them."
After hearing that, Tsubaki's eyes lit up.
"A lot of abilities? What do you mean? I thought that wasn't possible!"
"Alright, I'll explain."
I didn't tell her how my ability works, but I did tell her that the swords I forge can come with multiple abilities, and this one is an example. I also told her that it doesn't have an ability that increases movement speed like the sword she tested before.
"Seriously? But I was interested in that ability. Well, as long as the abilities on this sword are good, I'll keep it."
"What if I don't want to give it to you?"
"Then I won't make you any armor."
"I was just kidding. This sword isn't that great for me anyway since I don't use much magic."
If it had the "Magic Boost" ability, I would keep it, but that's not the case. So, I started explaining how all of the sword's abilities worked.
Each ability came with a description.
The Shadow Control ability allows the user to manipulate shadows. I can even "walk" through shadows with this ability. It seems like a really good skill for escaping or launching sneak attacks.
The Eternal Flame ability coats the sword's blade in an extremely lethal fire. An attack with this ability deals massive damage to the enemy. It's a very useful and powerful ability.
The Bloodlust ability is simple—it emits a bloodthirsty aura that can cause enemies to panic.
And the last ability, called Predator's Eye, is the most interesting one. It allows the sword's wielder to see an enemy's weak points. In other words, it's a great ability when fighting monsters you've never encountered before.
'This ability would be amazing to have when I face the next boss.'
"I see. These abilities seem kinda useless to me."
After hearing everything, Tsubaki made that comment. It felt like a punch to the face since I thought all the abilities were interesting.
I thought this sword was pretty powerful.
"If you don't want it, I'll keep it."
"That's fine, I don't care. But you'll have to stay here until you forge a sword I like."
"No way."
"Then you won't get your armor."
"Screw that."
"What?"
"I'm not staying here for that. I'd rather wait a few days and forge my own armor later. I'm taking this sword with me."
"No, wait! I'll take it."
"Why did you suddenly change your mind?"
"That shadow-controlling ability seems interesting."
Tsubaki gave me a grin and held out her hand, asking for the sword.
"Alright, I'll be off then. I'll wait for my armor. I hope you don't give me a piece of junk."
"Who do you think I am!?"

A day had passed since then, and I would get my workshop back tomorrow. In the morning, I went to the training grounds and met Tsubaki again. She was focused, as usual.
As soon as I got close, her eyes opened.
"You showed up. And this time, you brought a sword."
"Unfortunately, this sword isn't that great."
I was holding a sword with Magic Boost LV3, Hammer LV3, and Ice Control LV3. I couldn't say it was a bad sword, but it didn't have an ability that increased my physical strength or speed.
In other words, it wouldn't be useful for training since we normally don't use magic.
"It's not a good sword? It looks pretty good to me. It's even prettier than the one you forged yesterday."
"Trust me, that sword was better than this one."
"So, shall we start? Since you brought a sword, I assume you want to train today."
"Is my armor ready?"
"No."
Tsubaki replied with a smile. I could tell she was lying.
"Get ready because I won't go easy on you."
Even though she said that, she always held back against me. If she fought seriously, I wouldn't last two seconds.
I took a few steps back to create distance.
"This time, I'll use magic."
"Fine, but I won't use anything. Do your best."
Tsubaki picked up her sword from the ground and pointed it at me.
"Go ahead and attack first," she said.
I pointed my sword at her and activated Ice Control LV3. After activating it, I thought of an ice-based attack: first, ice spears, then ice spikes rising from the ground.
Everything I envisioned happened.
I felt a cold air around me as massive ice spears formed around me. Tsubaki's eyes widened in surprise, and before my ice spears could fly toward her, ice spikes shot up from beneath her feet.
Tsubaki noticed my attack and jumped.
As she leaped to avoid the spikes, the ice spears shot toward her at high speed.
An attack that could kill a weak adventurer.
But Tsubaki swung her sword, and in seconds, the three ice spears were shattered. She landed on her feet and then dashed toward me.
I immediately activated Hammer LV3, transforming my sword into a massive hammer that came crashing down toward Tsubaki.
But the attack was WAY TOO SLOW!
Tsubaki dodged it easily and appeared behind me, placing her sword against my neck.
"Your attacks aren't fast enough. I'll never get hit by something like that."
As she spoke, more ice spikes formed behind me, and ice spears appeared above her head.
