Snowpoint City
Snowpoint City, nestled in the northernmost part of the Sinnoh region, remains blanketed in snow all year round. The snowfall drifting down from the peak of Mt. Coronet keeps the temperature consistently low.
A single glance revealed a landscape covered in a thick layer of snow—trees and buildings alike transformed into a vast, silver-white world.
Today, however, the weather was relatively clear. Although snow had accumulated across the city, the temperature wasn't unbearably frigid.
"Are you ready?"
Behind the Pokémon Center, in the outdoor training area, Paul stood with his team holding an Electirizer in his hand. His gaze was fixed on Electabuzz, who stood alone in front of him.
In this world, Pokémon like Electabuzz, Magmar, Duskull, and Onix no longer required trade evolution. Just like in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, evolution could be triggered simply by giving them the corresponding item.
This was why wild Electivire, Dusknoir, Steelix, and Scizor could naturally exist.
"Buzz!"
Electabuzz, who had long been waiting for this moment, let out an excited cry, its eyes locked onto the Electirizer.
I've been waiting for this for so, so long…
Paul nodded. "Then, evolve."
He handed the Electirizer over to Electabuzz.
The moment Electabuzz touched the item, a surge of energy within its body was drawn out by the device, rapidly awakening and erupting forth.
A brilliant white evolutionary light enveloped its body.
Yet within the light, an unusual golden hue emerged. Golden sparks surged around its frame, crackling like arcs of lightning.
The evolution proceeded in full force—Electabuzz's 1.5-meter frame rapidly expanded, surpassing 2 meters in the blink of an eye, eventually reaching a towering 2.4 meters!
Its arms became significantly more muscular, and as the transformation continued, a second tail sprouted from its back.
As the light of evolution faded, Electivire's form was fully revealed.
Its thick yellow fur still bore bold black stripes, while the two antennae on its head remained unchanged. Its back now displayed markings resembling a dual-pronged electrical socket.
The tails extending behind it looked like coiled electrical cables, capable of releasing devastating energy at any moment—turning them into formidable weapons in battle.
Though Electivire's expression appeared less fierce than Electabuzz's, the sheer pressure it exuded had more than doubled.
"Viree~"
Electivire clenched its fists, feeling the surging power within its body. An overwhelming sensation of strength washed over it.
"I am unstoppable!"
Paul observed the transformation before speaking calmly.
"Check on the Zap Plate inside your body."
Though it had been a while, he hadn't forgotten about the fragmented Zap Plate that Electabuzz had recklessly swallowed whole.
The golden lightning from its evolution had most likely been influenced by that very plate.
Now that the evolution was complete—what had become of the Zap Plate?
"Viree…?"
Electivire focused inward, sensing its own body.
To its surprise, the Zap Plate—once an uncomfortable foreign object lodged inside its stomach—had completely vanished. It was as if it had never existed at all.
Yet the energy coursing through its body felt several times purer and more refined than before.
"Viree~"
Electivire shrugged and shook its head, indicating that it could no longer sense the plate's presence.
Paul contemplated for a moment. "Looks like whatever power remained in the plate has been fully absorbed and fused with your body. That's a good thing."
A complete fusion meant one less potential risk, and it also freed up an item slot for battle. However, the true extent of this change would require further testing.
Paul handed Electivire some held items to experiment with. Confirming that battle items still functioned properly, he recalled his Pokémon and proceeded to the Pokémon Center.
After Nurse Joy performed a thorough check-up on Electivire and confirmed that everything was normal, Paul left the center with his Pokémon in tow, making his way toward Snowpoint Gym.
"Apologies." The gym attendant said with a regretful expression. "The Gym Leader is currently at the Trainer's School, giving a lecture to the children. She won't be available for battle today. Please come back another time."
Paul gave a small nod. "I'll return later, then."
He wasn't particularly disappointed. His original plan was to use the Gym Battle as a warm-up for Electivire's first test. Since that wasn't an option, he'd simply resort to his own training methods—having his Pokémon battle amongst themselves.
Just as he was about to leave, he overheard a group of trainers chatting as they passed by.
"Hey, did you hear? Some trainer from another region just arrived in Snowpoint City. They're supposed to be insanely strong."
"Of course, I heard! Apparently, they only used a single Pikachu to completely wipe out Candice's full team—even when she was going all out."
"Yeah! They say he's just traveling through Sinnoh, but he's unbelievably powerful—and super quiet too."
"…."
A Pikachu...quiet...overwhelming.....
For some reason, an image of a certain person suddenly surfaced in Paul's mind. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and asked;
"Excuse me, where is this Trainer you're talking about?"
"Where? We don't know."
"If we did, we'd be watching him take on other powerful Trainers right now."
Two of the boys shook their heads and waved their hands, signaling that they had no idea.
"I heard that he might have gone to challenge the strongest Trainer in our city—Dick. He was the champion of the Lily of the Valley Conference a few years ago and is said to have the strength to rival the Elite Four."
"Unfortunately, we don't know whether the battle is taking place inside the city or somewhere outside."
One of the boys paused to think before offering this information.
"Thanks."
Paul gave a curt nod of appreciation before turning to leave.
In his mind, he recalled everything he knew about that legendary Trainer.
Paul was unfamiliar with the Pokémon Adventures manga.
However, in the games, that person was the original protagonist—an incredibly powerful Trainer who crushed Team Rocket, conquered the Pokémon League, and became Champion… captured Mewtwo… and later, in pursuit of further strength, went into seclusion in the depths of Mt. Silver.
The story in the Pokémon Origins anime closely followed the events of the first-generation games, with one notable difference—Red received a Key Stone and a Charizardite X from Mr. Fuji, allowing his Charizard to Mega Evolve.
Meanwhile, in the Pokémon Generations anime, Red was seen traveling across various regions with his Pikachu, whom he had caught using a Bulbasaur.
In Sinnoh, his Pikachu had once battled a Probopass in front of Snowpoint Temple.
With that in mind…
"I should check out Snowpoint Temple!"
Paul made his decision.
Unlike in the games, where Snowpoint Temple was located within the city, in this world, it was situated in a remote area outside of town.
Paul had been here once before while traveling with Reggie. He didn't even need a map—he already knew the way.
Deep within a mountain cave, a group of Froslass worked tirelessly, assisted by Swinub and Mamoswine, excavating large quantities of Dawn Stone ore from underground.
"Eenno~"
"Eenno~"
"Woooh~"
Seeing the sheer amount of Dawn Stones they had unearthed—enough to last them for years to come—the Froslass and Snorunt were overjoyed.
"Eeno~"
Amidst the celebration, one particular Froslass, with bright intelligent eyes, stepped forward and spoke to its mother.
"Eenno~Eenno?"
Are you certain about this?
The Froslass leader gazed at its child with a solemn expression.
"Eenno"
The young Froslass nodded firmly, its pure eyes filled with determination.
"Eenno~"
The Froslass leader stepped forward, embracing its child and gently stroking its head before finally offering its approval.
"Eenno!"
Amidst the swirling snow, the lone figure of a Froslass disappeared into the vast white expanse, leaving no trace behind.
