Chapter 76 - Wooden world(12)

Manug flew in a way that Cades had never heard off, it was almost as if he was gliding through the air and using magical telekinesis to heighten his own point of standing and consequently lower it through time, so much so that he flew without nothing.

And he did that at a speed greater than ever expected, so much so that not even the mage that had just finished manifesting itself was incapable of following them, despite the fact that she managed to fly as well, she on the other hand flew on a kind of magical circle as well, using the magic to connect her feet towards the massive circle and pushing it forward while standing in quite the interesting position, as she was connected to the circle while the circle itself was constantly moving, oftentimes sideways.

But after some time even that seemingly invincible opponent had been lost, as he could see as she stopped using her magic to continue flying, perhaps because she planned something, perhaps because she was out of mana, but never mind that, Cades was simply elated that they even managed to survive that monstrous opponent.

And just as he was there resounded an exhausted voice out of nowhere, in the inside of his mind, though he did know where the voice truly came from, to him this seemed quite exotic, it was as if the voice that he had previously heard as it overlapped with those of others just suddenly started burning in the inside of his head, something that he knew was possible, but he himself had never experienced it.

"Quick, I have gained two actives, absorb them, we need you to grow stronger once more if we need to survive, especially with that mad demon-like mage hunting us as if we were prey !"

The fact that the archer didn't scream, or perhaps wasn't able to scream in his mind didn't really surprise Cades, he was much more surprised by the fact that the archer, or rather Manug, hadn't left him behind to save his own life, but perhaps that was understandable, another thing he did however find interesting was how calm the archer was, as if he had thought this all up, as if he had understood this entire circumstance and already knew what to do, and perhaps, Cades inwardly prayed, he did.

But Manug had no idea on how to deal with everything that was happening, he had no idea what was going on, he knew almost nothing, all he had to show for himself was his calmness that had actually been caused by one of his constantes, a constant ability that allowed him to be calm and collected no matter the situation, at least as long as he activated it, which he rarely did seeing as he would also be calm and collected, and as such oftentimes leisurely and slothful during battles that would even threaten his own life.

If he hadn't acitvated it, also resulting in his calm and collected reasoning and explanation, amn act that seemed to be completely unfitting of the current circumstances, he would've been panicking, screaming and perhaps even having a breakdown seeing hat he barely even managed to evade the spears and sometimes even the poles that hose troll-like monsters had been throwing at him from all over the place while he was trying to descend and grab Cades in an attempt to escape from that weird unfinished, well, now she was finished, mage puppet.

In actuality they had been exceedingly lucky that the mage hadn't thought about putting ehr circles into the air, upwards as well, because if she had, then he would never have bveen able to do it, he would've never been able to rescue the one that was probably his biggest chance in the current situation, someone that was stronger than him, even with all of his magic sealed, except for the actives, which he could use much more efficiently now as it seemed.

So, to Manug, the most logical way of reason, and the only way in which he was about to think right now, indicated, no commanded, that he should give Cades the only two active stones that he had gained from this battle, two stones whose tiers he wasn't really sure, though he knew that one of them was probably the most basic of magic spells, the magical missile, and the other might even be a healing type active, something that they would need even more desperately seeing that he wouldn't be able to fly for long and he was almost certain that they would need to head towards the big tree in the distance if they wanted to even have a chance at surviving.

And as such he had made the stones containing these two new active in his hand, the left one, and consequently pushed it onto Cades hand when he let go and made it go into his outstretched hand, a sign of panic that quickly stopped as he realized that Manug was still holding his other hand.

And there they were, about a thousand feet in the air and still not above some of the trees in the endlessly extending forest that seemed to be able to touch the clouds had they been in a world where there were clouds, two stones in a single hand, two stones that Cades quickly broke, trying hard to think but in the end still not understanding the reason for Manug's actions, not that he would be able to emulate the thoughts of someone that thought with complete calmness and in a completely logical way, especially in this horrible situation, and even more so when he was dangling in the air, only held up by someone much weaker than himself who had been holding him with a single hand, while his own had now also enclosed around the holders wrist.

And, concluding this entire thought process that had truly only taken a few seconds, Cades cramped his hand that was holding the two stones together as hard as he could, crushing them.
