Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Flouting Islands (2)

Amy's POV:

When we first got to the ocean, I was fascinated by the endless expanse of the oceans blue water. Me along with Jay, Rah Norah's nickname, and Nikko Noah's nickname quickly moved toward the edge of the cliff to see the water below, but before we could even make it, I heard Mr. Garcia's voice say "what is that?" And quickly startled the children as I looked back at Mr. Garcia in confusion. I then followed his gaze and looked towards the endless expanse of the ocean only to see a black dot flouting above the water's surface in the distance.

"What the" I whispered as everyone else began to approach the edge, trying to get a better look at the floating object. I crouched down, making sure I was over the three small dragons, just in case they might get trampled on, as we all stared at the mysterious floating object in the distance. "What do you think that is?" I heard someone whisper in the crowd. "I don't know. I just hope it's not actually alive" Whispered a response back. I couldn't help but agree with their statements as it would be incredibly frightening to have to face a flouting giant monster.

I then turned to Jay and asked "what do you think it is?" in a questioning tone as I smiled at him. Jay looked at me and rolled his eyes in response to my smile as he knew, it was somewhat mocking and said "how would I know, I can't even see it from this distance" with a playful smile on his face. I chuckled at this before I looked at Rah and Nikko and said "what about you guys? What do you think it is?". Rah was in deep thought, she was trying to come up with the best answer and Nikko just said "I don't really care as long as it doesn't affect me" as he continued to nervously stare at the giant object in the distance.

I smiled at his response before letting Rah continue to think as I looked back at the object. Before long, I heard Mr. Garcia's voice once again as he threw a bombshell at us. He first asked us to gather around and everyone did comply with this demand, as everyone unconsciously thought of him as the leader. Me and my small group of children weren't any different as we huddled around Mr. Garcia and his wife and child. His next words though we're truly unpredictable. No one had expected it and it came with great shock as Mr. Garcia said he would be going to investigate the object.

That was not all, he was putting his wife in charge and leaving us for who knows how long. I could feel everyone's tension as he said this and I was no better. As he continue to speak, he even set a time limit for us to go back to where we were, into that dangerous forest. As he said his last words, everyone was hesitant to agree but one dragon in the crowd started to chain reaction as they agreed.

Me and the smaller dragons with me all agreed as we heard everyone else agree, though we were still anxious about the departure of our leader. And with this, Mr. Garcia left us as we all continue to watch his departing figure as he continue to pick up speed before he was no longer in sight. A couple of us turned to look at Mrs. Garcia, waiting for her to tell us what to do as we all anxiously waited Mr. Garcia's return. Mrs. Garcia was staring into the distance still watching as her husband, who is now no longer visible continue to fly towards the unidentified flouting object.

Mrs. Garcia was surprisingly a good leader. She had a couple members of the pack that excel at swimming go down toward the ocean to see if it was OK to hunt there. She instructed them not to get close to water's edge as the oceans waves would push them into the cliff and hurt them or even kill them. The dragons understood this and kept their distance from the cliffs edge as they first surveyed the water from above before plunging into it. Mrs. Garcia nodded at this before she went to the other half of the group to see what she could help with.

She appointed night watchers that would rotate with other dragons throughout the night, keeping us safe for any predators that might come our way much like what Mr. Garcia did. The younger dragons were being watched by the teens and I, as everyone else got to work, scouting the area, fishing, etc. before long, a day had passed and the fishing team came back with excellent news, the oceans below only inhabit creatures from earth, though it was quite strange to hear as the animals above the ocean, all had slightly stranger features than the ones from earth.

I then turned to Jay and whispered into his ear "Hey, did you hear that? We could have seafood here and not worry about being poisoned" with clear excitement present in my tone. Jay looked at me with a smile and nodded his head with a slight chuckle before he stood up and tackled one of the children that he was already playing with. I watched as Jay wrestled two children, he was losing. I then turned my head and looked at Rah and Nikko as they were in an intense battle against each other.

I wasn't entirely sure who was winning as Rah had Nikko's ear in her mouth and Nikko had Rah's foot in his mouth. It was quite amusing to watch as they tumble around. And then looked at the other children who are also playing around and or wrestling each other. I nodded my head at their antics before I got up and moved to one of the teenagers that were also watching the children.

"Hey Lucas, how are you? Still holding up well" I said with a smile on my face as I approached. Lucas turned his head to me with a smile and replied "yes I'm doing fine, though these past few days have been rough, but it's not all that bad" I nodded my head as I sat next to him before turning to look at the children. I was feeling quite lonely now that Jay had to take care of the children and I had no one to talk to.

Me and Lucas sat there in silence, watching the children, just enjoying each other's presence. It didn't feel awkward or anything which I found quite amusing since people always told me how awkward it was just to sit with someone you don't really know all that well. I then turned to look at Lucas observing his snow white body. I hadn't seem to notice before, but Lucas seemed to have put a lot of thought into his markings. He had positioned them into shooting stars across his body that were hard to spot unless you were paying close attention.

The shooting stars were quite pretty across his scales as they all made arcs and only traveled one way, which was towards his tail. This did not mean they all had the same trajectory or path, some were going towards his tail fins while others went straight down his back. There was also some that seemed to go completely diagonal. As I observed his body more, I realized he had used multiple colors instead of just one on his body. He had some swirls of blues and pinks that outlined his shooting stars, as well as some very slight hits of purple.

I had to admit he was quite creative. I then turned my focus to his eyes. He had bright amber eyes that seem to reflect, just like how the stone would as it looks crystalline. I began to ponder how he got it to be so crystalline and clear before I noticed that he was staring at me. I slowly widen my eyes in surprise before converting back to normal and smiling. "Yes?" I questioned, still smiling, as I tried to hide my embarrassment from being caught.

He raised his eyebrows and smiled at me gently before he chuckled and said "I did a great job didn't I". I could feel it was a genuine question and he wasn't mocking me so I nodded my head, then asked "how did you get your eyes to be so crystalline and clear?". He chuckles at this then said "there was an option on the very bottom of the scrolled features that seemed to have faded out that said additional benefits or whatever"

I was shocked -there were other things that I hadn't discovered, the system was hiding so much from me- I thought as I pouted and blamed myself for not looking hard enough to find the crystalline eye option. I was slightly jealous at his fortune before I looked away and stared at the children once more. This time it wasn't me that broke silence, it was Lucas.

"Hey, how did you make the stars on your wings?" Ask Lucas as he observed my tail fins as my wings were tucked away. I looked at him then unfolded one of my wings so he could get a better look. "Hard work and dedication" I replied with a smug look on my face as I raised my head up high. I could hear a slight chuckle from him that he began to look at my wings and their constellation patterns.

he then said an astonishment "Wow these are actually constellations" as he reached out with one of his claws to touch it. "Yes indeed, they were incredibly hard to remember, but since I was interested in the stars when I was younger, I think I got most of them" I said, with a proud grin on my face. "You like the stars?" He asked as he began to trace each thin and barely visible line that connected the stars and turned them into constellations.

I nodded my head at his question and said "I used to like the stars a lot, space was just so fascinating to me, it still is". "What about you? You have something you like?" I asked as I turned my head to look at him. He was still tracing the star patterns on my wings then looked over at me when I asked the question. "Hmmm, I'm not too sure" he said as he began to look and observe my body like I did to his before.

"Your quite dedicated" he said as his eyes returned to my eyes and I replied "and your quite creative" with a smile on my face. He to smiled in response, it was a soft smile, one that made someone look gentle. I then turned my head back to watch the children and he soon did the same. The atmosphere was quite nice as we sat and enjoyed each other's company. It didn't take long for the night to once again absorb the light as everyone gathered around to go to bed. Everything was similar to when we rested when we travelled but one thing was different, we had another member to our small group.

Lucas had decided to join us. We slept in a circular formation with his head on the opposite side of my head. To be honest, it looked like the yin and yang formation. When morning arrived everything was running smoothly, everyone had their own jobs and responsibilities. I was once again on child watch duty with all the other teens.

It wasn't as boring as before as I got to talk with Lucas to pass the time. I had learned he was an aspiring artist before he met his end in a tragic car accident. He didn't have any siblings and his parents had died a couple years earlier in a plane crash. He told me how he skipped going to college as he had to get a job to pay for rent and how he lost his friends due to his job and the distance it created between them.

I felt pretty bad for him, so I told him my story. I told him how I had to take care of my brother since my parents were always at work and how I had graduated from college. I told him about the fun times I had with my brother and the bad times the struggles I had to go through to try and get a job. I told him that once I had finally found a job I liked and was ready to go to the interview I had died. I told him about my death and how I died and the pain I felt when I saw my brother and heard his screams at the time.

We comforted each other, sharing ideas and story's from our lives. It felt quite nice to finally talk to someone about this, to talk about how I felt when I died and how I felt when I thought I lost my brother once again. Sometime had passed and it was now evening and Jay walked up to me. He stared at Lucas before looking at me and whispering "can I talk to you?" Then looked at Lucas again, then back at me and continued "in private?".

I raise my eyebrow at this before nodding, then looked at Lucas and said "I'll be right back" and he nodded in response as I got up and followed Jay. Jay then suddenly turned around and stared at me intensely. "What?" I asked him in confusion as he scrutinized by face. He then circled me as I followed him with my head "what?" I said again, this time in a more commanding tone though still questioning. Jay then stopped in front of me and looked at me before saying "do you like Lucas?" as he scrunched his nose and observed every expression I made.

I was shocked -how could you like someone you just met?- I thought before I replied and said "no I don't think so. He's just fun company and there's no one else to talk to as you and the other two are playing with the children". Jay then turned his head and looked past me towards Lucas, he was calmly watching the children play. Jay began staring at him, observing him intensely and Lucas seemed to sense this as he shivered and began to look around.

I quickly blocked Jay sight with my tailfins and looked at him and said "that's rude". Jay sighed then looked away from Lucas and stared at me once more. He shook his head, then began to walk away as I watched him return to the children and continue to entertain them. I was slightly puzzled at his actions before I went and once again sat next to Lucas.

Lucas didn't ask any questions. We just sat there in silence as we watch the children and enjoy each other's company. -It was quite strange. Why would he ask me that?- I thought as I slowly shifted my gaze to look at Lucas, then continue to think -we only just started to get to know each other- as I shifted my gaze back to the crowd of children. I took a deep breath and the day seemed to pass by in a blur. -Time seems to move so fast- I thought as I looked up into the sky and saw the setting sun once more.

As everyone was getting ready to sleep, Lucas once again joined us. This time it was Rah and Nikko that came to ask questions. "Are you somehow adopting him too?" Asked Nikko as he looked at Lucas, me and Rah both burst out laughing at this. I then looked at Nikko and said "how could I adopt him? Where practically almost the same age" with a chuckle. Nikko narrow his eyes in response and said "I don't know, it is probably possible" with a clear, unsure tone.
