Last Chapter: Chapter 19

The silence was deafening, and as I reached for the handle, I heard footsteps rushing towards me.

"Kai!" Shouted Yuzu. I turned my head slightly, looking at her. She just gave me a thumbs-up and smiled. "Good Luck!"

I smiled back at her, tears threatening to leave. "Yeah, it will be quick, promise," I replied as I made my way out the door.

The problem was, could I keep that promise?

Chapter 20: The Inevitable Showdown!! Battle Of Destiny Part 1!!

The sun hung low in the sky, its golden light bleeding into the horizon like a wounded warrior refusing to fall. It lingered, as if reluctant to abandon the battlefield, yearning to witness the duel that would soon shake the very air. Yet for now, it could only cast its dying glow upon the shattered pride of three fallen Leo Institute students, their defeat etched into the dust beneath them.

Stood above them was Shay Obsidian, his gaze sharp and unyielding, like a hawk surveying its prey, daring them to rise again. Yet he knew they wouldn't. They were too weak, too unworthy of the fight they had so foolishly stepped into.

He had severely overestimated these so-called elite duellists of Leo Institute. Weak. Every last one of them. They talked big and flaunted their status, yet crumbled the moment they faced someone who had truly fought to survive. None of them had forced him to break a sweat, let alone push him to his limits. This was nothing but a waste of his time.

And yet…

The bitter memory of his defeat just three days ago clawed at the edges of his mind. The sting of it was unbearable. That girl—how had she bested him? How had she, of all people, been the one to make him falter? It was disgraceful. Unforgivable. He clenched his fists, his nails digging into his palms as anger simmered beneath his cool exterior.

Pathetic. That was what he had been.

He glared down at the three fallen students as if somehow their pitiful state could lessen his frustration. But the sight of them only fuelled his rage further. Their weakness was an insult, a reminder of the sheer gap between them and himself. He had expected some level of resistance, some challenge that would at least make this worth his time. Instead, they had crumbled like brittle glass beneath his relentless assault.

With a sharp exhale, he turned his gaze away from them, scanning the empty surroundings. His patience had already worn thin. 'Where the hell were those two?'

"Where the hell are those two?!" Shay finally voiced his frustration, his voice echoing through the air like a growl.

Yuto and Yuma. He hadn't seen them in days. Normally, he wouldn't concern himself with such things—those two could handle themselves. But this silence, this strange absence, gnawed at him in a way he couldn't ignore. Even if he would never admit it, a part of him was starting to worry.

Before he could dwell on that thought any further, a voice cut through the air.

"I think maybe I can help you."

Shay's body tensed instantly. The words came from behind him, spoken with an unsettling calmness. He turned sharply, his piercing gaze locking onto the figure standing there.

His eyes narrowed. He knew this man

"Kai." Stated Shay, like it was some fact you had to know.

I stood there cooly as I looked at the pissed-off man. "Yo." I waved.

This only seemed to enrage Shay further, his temper snapping like a frayed wire. His fists clenched, his glare burning with unfiltered fury as he took a step forward.

"What are you doing here?! You here to battle me? Fine then, bring it on! I'll destroy you and make you tell me where Lulu is!" His voice was raw, seething with barely contained rage. The adrenaline from his last fight still controling his every move. "And don't think you can run off on that little motorcycle of yours like last time! I am a warrior who has faced many of your duel academy scum, who has fought through hell itself— I know how you guys think, and I won't be beaten, you hear me, Kai?!"

I sighed, rubbing my temples before lazily covering my ears.

"Yeah, I think the whole neighborhood can hear you," I muttered. "Jesus, I swear, you Xyz guys are all the same."

Shay's snarl deepened, his eyes darkening with fury.

"Woah, woah, relax," I said, raising my hands in mock surrender, a smirk tugging at my lips. "I didn't come here to fight you. I came to deliver you to the man you've been waiting to meet since you arrived in this dimension."

Despite the burning anger in Shay's chest, he couldn't ignore the flicker of intrigue that sparked at my words.

I chuckled, tilting my head slightly. "I think you know exactly who I'm talking about. After all, he's the reason you're here, isn't he? The one standing between you and your vengeance. The son of the man at the root of all your problems—" I let the tension hang in the air before delivering the name with a knowing smirk.

"Declan Akaba. The son of Leo Akaba."

Surprisingly, Shay barely reacted. No sudden outburst, no clenched fists, no sharp retort. Just a cold, assessing stare.

"And what do you know about Declan?" he asked, his voice steady but laced with suspicion.

I grinned, tapping my temple. "Oh, a lot actually. You see, me and him? We've gotten quite close since our last duel. Turns out, when you push a guy like that to his limits, you learn a thing or two. You should've been there—oh, it was beautiful, the back-and-forth, the mind games, the struggle to outmaneuver each other. That guy can be a real fun sucker, but you gotta admit, he can duel. I mean, try—"

"Cut the crap."

Shay's voice sliced through my rambling like a blade, sharp and unamused. His glare was unwavering, his patience wearing dangerously thin.

I sighed, shaking my head slightly. 'Man, this guy needs to relax.' We stared each other down, tension crackling in the air like an impending storm.

'Welp, it should be about time anyway.'

I stretched lazily, slumping my hands behind my head as I turned on my heel. "Right this way. Follow me." My tone was casual, almost indifferent as if I hadn't just been moments away from being punched in the face.

Without another word, I started walking, my strides unhurried, fully expecting Shay to follow—whether out of curiosity, anger, or sheer stubbornness.

Shay didn't move immediately. His eyes stayed locked onto my back, suspicion clouding his thoughts. He didn't trust me—not one bit. And why should he? As far as he was concerned, I was just another obstacle, another nuisance standing in his way.

But I knew him well enough to count on one thing—his obsession. The mere mention of Declan had set something off inside him. No matter how much he hated me, no matter how much he wanted to card me right then and there, he couldn't ignore the one chance he had of getting his dear sister back.

So, after a long pause, I finally heard his boots scrape against the ground. He was following.

A smirk played on my lips. Knew it.

The streets of the city stretched before us, the evening air growing colder as the sun dipped lower on the horizon. Neon signs flickered to life, casting eerie glows onto the pavement. The silence between us was heavy, but I didn't mind. Let him stew in his thoughts. Let the anticipation build.

After a while, Shay finally broke the silence.

"Where are we going?" His voice was gruff, and controlled, but there was an edge to it.

I glanced over my shoulder, flashing a grin. "You'll see soon enough. Just keep up."

Shay narrowed his eyes but didn't push further. Smart. He knew better than to let impatience make him reckless.

Declan's Control Room

Declan sat in the dim glow of his command center, surrounded by his most trusted operatives. Screens flickered before him, each displaying a different angle of the unfolding events. Seated beside him were the Chairwoman and his younger sister, their gazes locked onto the live feed of Kai and Shay's encounter.

A smirk tugged at Declan's lips as he observed the exchange. Everything was proceeding exactly as he had anticipated.

"It seems the stage is nearly set," he mused, fingers steepled in front of him. This was the moment he had been waiting for—the pieces had moved into place, and now, all they could do was wait for Kai to play his part.

"And the Sakaki family?" His gaze turned slightly; his expression unreadable. "Have the preparations been made?" he asked, his voice calm yet commanding.

One of his subordinates, seated at the console, nodded briskly. "Everything is online, sir. We're just waiting on your signal."

Declan's smirk deepened. "Then proceed."

With a single command, the unseen gears of his grand design began to turn. The duel that was about to take place would be momentous. They had the best seat in the house and Declan intended to share it.

After all, generosity had its moments. And tonight, he was feeling particularly generous.

Sakaki house

The room was quiet. A stark contrast to the warmth and energy that had filled it before. It was as if Kai's departure had drained the life from the space, leaving only an uneasy stillness in its wake. Though no one spoke it aloud, most of them knew—something was wrong. The look on Kai's face before he left said it all. He was walking into danger.

Shuzo had already taken Allie, Tate, and Fredrick to their homes. Left their sat Yoko, Yuya, Yuzu and Gong. Yuzu and Gong had decided to stay until their friends came back.

Yoko shifted in her seat, her anxiety reaching its limit. Finally, she stood. "Maybe I should go look for him," she muttered, already moving toward the door.

"Mom, no." Yuya's voice was calm, but firm. He met her gaze with a look that was far too steady, far too controlled. "We have to trust Kai. He's an adult—he can take care of himself."

Yoko stared at him, and for a moment, it was like she was seeing a stranger.

Who could blame her? The boy standing before her was not the son she had known. Yuya had changed. The cheerful, childish optimism that had always reminded her of her husband was gone. In its place was a cold, calculating presence. A boy who had seen too much fought too hard. As if he had gone to hell and back—and never fully returned. She knew she didn't even know half of what he had been through.

"So what?" Yoko snapped, her frustration boiling over. "He lives under my roof, and as long as he does, he is my responsibility!"

Yuya's expression darkened. "That doesn't mean you should go running after him like he's some lost kid that needs looking after!" His voice rose, sharp with conviction. "You're not his mother. He told us he'd be back, so let's sit down and enjoy our dinner."

His words struck like a slap, and for a moment, Yoko could only stare at him, stunned.

It hurt.

But… he wasn't wrong.

She clenched her fists, swallowing the lump in her throat. No, she wasn't Kai's mother. Just like she hadn't been Sora's. But dammit, she couldn't stop herself from worrying about them. From caring too much.

The tension in the air was suffocating.

No one else spoke. The others had remained silent throughout the entire Sakaki family argument, and they certainly weren't going to break the silence now. But their expressions said everything.

They were worried about Kai.

They all were.

"I hope I'm not interrupting."

A smooth, almost amused voice rang through the room. Every head snapped toward the television, where the screen flickered to life. And there, staring back at them, was a face that broke the heavy tension that had been the air.

"Declan!" Yuya exclaimed, pushing himself up from his seat.

"Declan?" Yoko whispered, her eyes narrowing. This was the man she had heard about—the one who had dueled Kai to a draw.

Declan's expression remained unreadable, calm as ever. "I assume you're aware that your friend Kai has gone off somewhere?"

The words had barely left his mouth before a sharp bang rang through the room—hands slamming against the table.

Declan's gaze shifted as Yoko stormed toward the screen, her eyes blazing with fury. She grabbed the television, her fingers digging into the edges as if she could pull Declan through it by force.

"You know where he is, don't you?!" she demanded. "You're the one making him do this! You two have been having secret meetings ever since his battle with Yuya! Tell me where he is right now! Is he okay?! I swear, if he's hurt, I will—"

"Kai is fine."

Declan's interruption was firm but composed, silencing the room in an instant. He let the tension settle for a brief moment before continuing.

"In fact, he is about to have a duel. Right now."

Yuzu stepped forward, eyes sharp with concern. "With whom?!"

"Gong demands you tell us where our friend is right now." Demanded Gong as he walked with Yuya toward the living room sofa.

Declan's smirk barely twitched. "I'm about to show you."

The screen changed. Displayed on it showed a stadium similar to the one Kai dueled Sylvio in. It was clearly from the Leo Institute. However, it wasn't the stadium that shocked Yuzu, it was the man standing there,

"It's him!" Shouted Yuzu as she got up from her sofa. This dragged the attention of everyone onto her.

"It's whom?" asked Gong, mimicking what everyone else was thinking out loud.

"It's the guy who was with Yuto when he dueled Kai." Explained Yuzu, staring in shock at who she was looking at. "And it's the guy who beat and badly injured Sora in a duel the day he disappeared."

"What!" Exclaimed Yoko and Yuya, their protective instincts kicking in.

"Gong don't like this one bit." Grunted Gong, as he glared at this screen.

Declan leaned back in his chair, watching their reactions with quiet amusement. "Yuzu is correct. If you don't want to miss what's about to happen, I suggest you all calm down and watch."

The man on the screen stood there quietly. His eyes closed but his duel disk fully loaded as if he had been preparing for a fight.

He was. Yuma Tsukumo was prepared to take down the duel academy scum that would be entering in just a few moments.

"Kai!" Everyone heard from the Yuma as their eyes were fully glued to the screen. "I am going to end you."

With Kai and Shay

Kai and Shay stood in front of the tallest building in the city.

"What is this place?" asked Shay. I deadpanned as I looked at him.

"Seriously? You're hunting down Leo students and you don't even know the school they're from?" Shay widened his eyes in realization. I didn't wait for a response as I walked inside. Shay followed cautiously. He knew he was walking into the lion's den, and he had to be careful.

"Take this Lift up to the very top floor and then go to the room at the end of the hall and you will meet the man you are looking for. Here take this." I said giving him a keycard. "It will give you access to the place."

"Why are you doing this?" Declan asked sceptically.

"Cuz Declan and I had a duel. I would deliver you to him in exchange for a duel with someone."

"Who?"

"You will know soon. All you need to know is I am about to settle a few things with this guy" I said as I started walking in the opposite direction. "The way duellists do."

Shay clenched his fists, not liking it at all. He held his lounge though as he watched me walk away. Looking at the lift beside him, he made his choice.

Declan's Control Room

The door burst open with a thunderous crash as Shay stormed in, his presence commanding immediate attention. His sharp gaze swept across the room, dismissing the others like mere background noise until it locked onto a single target.

"Declan Akaba."

His voice was steady, and controlled, but the fire in his eyes betrayed the fury simmering beneath the surface. Across the room, Declan met his gaze with an unshaken expression, his fingers steepled in front of him as if he had been expecting this exact moment.

"Welcome to the audience seats," Declan said smoothly, his tone as composed as ever. "I assume you came to watch the show."

"Screw that!" Shay snapped, his duel disk flashing to life in an instant. "I didn't come here to watch your little show—I came to make you tell me where your father is!"

Declan didn't flinch. He merely sighed, as if already growing bored with this interruption.

"Believe me, you don't need to activate your duel disk." His tone was as calm as ever, carrying a quiet authority that demanded attention. "Just sit down quietly, and I'll tell you everything you need to know."

Shay didn't move. His muscles tensed, his instincts screaming at him not to trust a single word this man said. And yet… something about Declan's demeanor made him hesitate.

Then, without another word, Declan turned back toward the massive screen dominating the room.

Shay followed his line of sight—and his breath caught.

"What the hell—?" His voice came out in a sharp exhale, his eyes widening in shock. "Why are you watching Yuma?!"

The screen displayed a live feed of a duel arena, and standing at its center, his duel disk already prepped, was none other than Yuma Tsukumo.

Shay's fingers clenched into fists. His heart pounded against his ribs. Why was Yuma here? Why was Declan watching him?

Declan didn't even glance his way. "I already told you. There's about to be a show."

Shay's anger flared once more, but before he could fire back, the sound of footsteps echoed through the room.

Declan smirked slightly.

"It's about to begin."

Duel Arena

Step. Step. Step. Step.

The slow, deliberate footsteps echoed through the vast arena, each one a heavy drumbeat against the silent anticipation in the air. The steady rhythm sent a chill through the space, the sound bouncing off the walls like an omen of what was to come.

Yuma Tsukumo stood motionless at the center, his eyes closed, his breathing calm. But as the steps grew louder—closer—he finally opened them, sharp and unwavering.

Without hesitation, he moved.

With measured strides, Yuma stepped toward the other side of the battlefield, his fingers hovering over his duel disk before activating it with a sharp flick. The mechanical hum of the device igniting filled the air, but he never once looked away from the darkness before him.

And then, from the depths of the shadowed hallway, a figure emerged.

The tension thickened, the moment stretching unbearably as the silhouette took form, stepping into the dim light of the arena.

Yuma didn't blink. His grip on his duel disk tightened.

The opponent he had been waiting to battle since their first encounter had finally arrived.

"Welcome. Kai Akimoto." Said Yuma calmly.

I gazed at my opponent, my expression devoid of warmth, a stark contrast from the casual demeanor I wore back at the Sakaki house. There, I had played the part—relaxed, indifferent, unconcerned. But here?

This was the true me.

Cold. Calculating.

The air between us was thick with unspoken tension, a battlefield forming before the first move was even made. My eyes locked onto Yuma's, searching, analyzing. Every breath, every shift in his stance—I took it all in. It seemed Yuma was also the same. He knew the stakes of the battle about to take place. Whoever won this would walk out unharmed.

And whoever didn't? Well, that depended on whoever walks out the winner.

"Yuma," I said. "Looks like you have been waiting for me."

Yuma clenched his fist. His body shaking in excitement. "Yeah, I have. I've been waiting for the time I would be able to get my revenge for what you did to my dimension."

"I already told you; I did nothing to your dimension. But if you truly believe defeating me would help you get your revenge." I activated my duel disk. "Then so be it. Don't think I will be going easy on you though.

Sakaki House

Gong, Yuya, Yuzu, and Yoko stared at the screen in stunned silence, their breath caught in their throats as the reality of the situation settled in.

"Kai!" Yuya's voice rang out, his eyes widening. "He's fighting Yuma!"

Yuzu's hands clenched tightly in her lap. "So that's why he was acting so strange… he knew this duel was coming."

A heavy tension filled the air, thick and suffocating.

Yoko's voice was barely above a whisper, but it carried the weight of her dread. "What happens if Kai loses?"

A silence followed. Yuzu hesitated, shifting uncomfortably, as if saying it out loud would make it real.

"W-well…" she stammered.

Yuya's fists tightened. He forced himself to say what they were all thinking. "From what Kai told us… if you lose to any of these guys, they'll card you. Just like they did to those Leo professors."

Yoko's breath hitched. "Card you? What do you mean?"

Yuya's expression darkened. "A few days ago, before Sora disappeared, I saw it happen. I witnessed a man take out three Leo professors with just one Xyz monster. It wasn't just a defeat—it was an execution. He wiped them out in a single move."

Yuzu exhaled sharply, her gaze distant. "I know who you're talking about." Her voice wavered slightly. "I met him in an abandoned house after Sora's battle with Yuma. There were two faces—etched onto a card. Their expressions… they were frozen in terror as if fear was the last thing they felt before it happened. And the worst part? I don't even know if they're still alive."

Gong swallowed hard; his usual calm shaken. "And you're saying…"

Yoko finished for him, her face pale with worry. "Kai has to face one of them."

Yuya nodded grimly. "He has to. If he doesn't, they'll just keep coming after us. Kai is risking everything… to protect us."

Control Room

"Why is Kai dueling Yuma!" Demanded Shay.

"Because we had a deal." Sighed Declan. Shay's constant nagging was starting to get on his nerves. "I Kai beats Yuma, he stops attacking us and joins our team of lancers."

"Lancers?" Asked Shay in confusion.

"They are a team I am putting together to stop my father."

"But why would you want to stop him, he is your father?!" Said the shocked

"I'll tell you my story soon enough. For now, watch this duel as it could decide how our future will plan out. After all, if we lose, we could lose two potentially strong soldiers for this unavoidable war."

Shay simply nodded. He didn't need to ask what would happen if Kai lost—he already knew.

Yuma had been waiting for this moment since the day he and Kai first crossed paths. If he won, there would be no hesitation. He would do exactly what he had been itching to do all along—defeat Kai, card him, and then take that card straight to Duel Academy as proof of his strength.

But that wasn't all.

Shay knew Yuma's hatred ran deeper than just defeating enemies. Once he had his trophy, he wouldn't stop there. He would hunt down the Professor himself—the man responsible for everything they had suffered. And when the time came, Yuma wouldn't just defeat him. He would card him, just like he had done to so many others.

This wasn't just a duel. It was a war fuelled by vengeance. And even if Kai lost… he wouldn't be the last.

Duel Arena

"Let's get this show on the road, shall we?" I said, activating my duel disk. "But before we start, how about we make this an 8000-life point duel?"

Yuma raised an eyebrow. "An 8000-life point duel?"

"Yeah," I said with a smirk. "I mean, that's just how it goes when a Fusion user faces an Xyz user, right?"

Yuma clenched his fists, his expression darkening as old memories surfaced. "You Fusion duellists always have some trick to tilt things in your favor... fine. Not that it'll make a difference. Just know that the stakes have already been decided if you lose."

The arena rumbled as the system activated, pulses of energy rippling through the ground. A blinding light erupted from beneath their feet, and in an instant, the dull, lifeless battlefield transformed into a sprawling metropolis.

Skyscrapers shot up from the ground, stretching toward the sky as if they had always been there. Neon signs flickered to life, casting a colorful glow across the streets below. The roads, once barren, filled with speeding cars, each one a mere projection of the augmented system, yet moving with the realism of a living, breathing city. Holographic billboards towered overhead, flashing images of past duels and the legendary warriors who had once clashed here.

A warm breeze carried the distant sound of a bustling crowd—an illusion, but an eerily convincing one. The air shimmered as the Field Spell settled into place, completing the transformation.

Neo Heartland City had come to life.

Standing amidst the glowing metropolis, I rolled my shoulders, taking in the familiar scenery. "Not bad," I muttered. "Guess we're really doing this."

Yuma cracked his neck, not even flinching at the appearance of his him as he stepped forward. "Yeah. And when it's over, you're the one who's going to disappear."

I smirked, raising my duel disk. "We'll see about that. I am no longer afraid of you because I know what's at stake. You're not going to be winning today."

"Duel!"

"I am going to start this show off with a bang," I said calmly. "I summon Black Stone of Legends"

Black Stone of Legends LV1 (ATK 0/DEF 0)

Yuma just stared quietly as he waited patiently to finish his turn.

"This stone might look like nothing now but wait till it awakens and evolves. I now activate its effect. I can tribute it to summon a level 7 "Red-Eyes" from my deck." I searched through my deck until I stopped to take out Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon. However, suddenly a Red-Eyes Black Dragon appeared in my head, roaring like it was trying to tell me a message.

"You want to come out huh," I said to myself as the card started glowing, signifying its position to me. I took the card out as I called out. "I special summon, My Ace, My Soul, MY DRAGON! Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"

Red-Eyes Black Dragon LV7 (ATK 2400/DEF 2000)

The moment I placed the card on my duel disk, the air around me ignited with raw energy. A deep crimson glow pulsed from the device, spreading outward in jagged streaks of light. The ground beneath me trembled, cracks of molten red forming as if the city itself couldn't contain the power being unleashed.

A deafening roar split the air.

From within the glowing vortex that had formed above, two blazing red eyes pierced through the darkness. Flames erupted as enormous black wings unfurled, their leathery surface reflecting the neon glow of the cityscape. The beast descended, its razor-sharp claws scraping against the battlefield as embers scattered with every powerful movement.

The mighty Red-Eyes Black Dragon landed before me, its obsidian scales gleaming under the artificial lights of Neo Heartland City. Its fiery breath escaped in deep, guttural growls, the sheer heat distorting the air around it. The dragon's gaze locked onto Yuma, unwavering, filled with the same burning determination that raged within me.

I smirked, feeling the familiar surge of power course through me. "Let's do this, Red-Eyes."

The moment Red-Eyes Black Dragon appeared; a strange sensation burned in Yuma's chest. His breath hitched, his fists tightening at his sides.

'Why… does this feel so familiar?'

It wasn't just the power radiating from the dragon—it was something deeper, something that stirred inside him the moment he laid eyes on it. The same feeling had surfaced before, back when he had watched Yuto and Kai duel. It had been brief, just a flicker of something unexplainable, but now? Now, it was undeniable.

It wasn't fear. It wasn't even anger.

It was recognition.

Like a memory just out of reach, something buried deep in his soul was screaming at him, demanding to be acknowledged. But no matter how hard he tried; he couldn't grasp it.

Instead, the feeling only fuelled his rage.

With a growl, Yuma shook off the thought and snapped his focus back to the duel. It didn't matter. Whatever this dragon meant, whatever connection it had to him—he would crush it. Just like he planned to crush Kai.

"I set one card face down then end my turn," I said as a card appeared before disappearing.

"Good, now I can destroy you and any hope you think you have of winning. I draw!"

Turn 2

"Perfect." Said Yuma as he looked at the card he had just drawn. "To activate this spell card, I just drew I got to show it to you. Look at my Brian's Chaos Draw." Said Yuma as he showed Kai the card. "Now since I showed you it, I can activate any one of its effects. I use its effect to summon two monsters from my deck. However, their effects are negated. Come out, ZW - Ultimate Shield and ZW - Unicorn Spear

ZW - Ultimate Shield LV4 (ATK 0/DEF 2000)

ZW – Unicorn Spear LV4 (ATK 1900/DEF 0)

"He brought out two monsters like they were nothing." I stared in awe as Yuma's monsters descended upon the field. "He now has two level 4 monsters, looks like he is going to xyz summon."

Yuma smirked, throwing his hand forward as his monsters rose into the air, their forms beginning to swirl in a spiral of golden energy.

"You're exactly right! I overlay my two Level 4 monsters!"

A vortex of light erupted in the center of the field, pulsing with raw power as the two monsters transformed into streaks of energy, spiraling into the void. The overlay network expanded, golden streams of light crackling like lightning across the battlefield.

Yuma raised his hand high, his voice ringing with unshakable confidence.

"Make way for the Guardian of the Numbers! An ancient warrior who stands as the shield of hope! With your radiant blades, carve a path to victory and illuminate the future!"

He slammed his card onto the duel disk, and in an instant, a blinding pillar of light shot down from the sky.

"I Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Number 39: Utopia!"

Number 39: Utopia Rank 4 (ATK 2500/DEF 2000)

From within the radiant glow, a majestic warrior emerged, clad in gleaming white and gold Armor. Its enormous wings spread wide as it landed gracefully onto the field, a brilliant aura of power surrounding its form. Two orbs of energy—its Overlay Units—orbited around it, pulsing like miniature stars.

Utopia brandished its twin swords, crossing them in front of its chest before striking a battle-ready stance.

Yuma pointed straight ahead; his eyes locked onto me. "Hope rides with me, and with Utopia on my field, your Red Eyes doesn't stand a chance!"

Red-Eyes roared as Utopia stared it down with unwavering confidence. Its illuminating glow versus the pure Darkness of Red Eyes only serving to reinforce Yuma's belief that I was the enemy, and he was the hero of this story.

'My job is to prove how wrong he is.'

Control Room

"That's the monster Yuma used to beat Sora Pierce!" said one of Declan's subordinates, shocked that he was able to summon it so soon.

"Number huh? I wonder, so this is what that is." Said Declan with his hands clasped together in front of his face.

"You don't even know the half of it." Declan turned to Shay as he started talking. "Those things are monsters of enormous power and Yuma is their protector. It said anyone who has all the numbers gain the power to control the past and the future."

"The past and the future? If what you say is true does that mean your friend Yuma can control the past and the future?" Asked the intrigued Declan.

"Not quite. You see Yuma doesn't actually have all of them. More than half of the 1000 Number monsters were lost during the attack from the fusion dimension. Yuma only has 100 of them. Ever since he lost them, he hasn't been the same. I am sure you can understand what will happen if the last 100 ends up in the wrong hands."

"Yeah." Said Declan, finally understanding. "They could use the power of these numbers to destroy the past and present of every single dimension."

"Mhm, either way, Kai is finished. That's one of Yuma's ace monsters; he doesn't stand a chance."

Their eyes focused back on the duel screen as they waited for Yuma to make his move.

Sakaki Family

"This is bad." Said Yuya. "It seems this duel is about to really heat up."

"Will Kai be, ok?" Asked Yoko.

"Don't worry Mrs Sakaki. Gong believes in Kai. Yuma's number cards won't put a dent in Kai's defenses." Said Gong, trying to lighten up the mood.

Yuzu who had her hands together just stared at the duel In front of her.

"Be careful Kai."

Duel Arena

"Now I believe it's time for that dragon of yours to go bye-bye. Utopia! Destroy his Red-Eyes Black Dragon." Yuma's monster charged toward my Red-Eyes. Without hesitation, Red-Eyes also charged forward.

As they were about to clash, I acted. "Not so fast. I activate Draining Shield. It puts the brakes on your monster's attack and adds its attack points to my life points."

"You thought this duel would be easy well you're dead wrong. Bet you didn't see that coming" I mocked

"Actually, I did." Said Yuma with a dark smirk

"What?!" I said in shock

"I activate the spell card: Double or Nothing! When a monster's attack is negated, it can attack again but this time with double the damage. You fusion scum may try to put us down and take everything we own away from us but we always come back with double the strength!"

Number 39: Utopia Rank 4 (ATK 5000/DEF 2000)

"Not good," I said.

"Say goodbye to those life points you just gained. Go Utopia. Rising Sun Slash." As Utopia finished powering up its sword lit up with shining glimmer. It charged for my dragon as Red-Eyes tried to send a red ball of flames towards the monster. This proved futile however as Utopia swatted it away like a fly as its sword descended on my monster destroying it. The damage was real. The damage was real. The impact from the strike was deadly as the shockwave tore through the battlefield, sending sparks and debris flying in all directions.

A surge of energy rippled through my body as my Life Points took a heavy hit, the sheer force of the attack knocked me off my feet sending me flying. The air around me crackled, distorting under the weight of Utopia's power.

Sakaki Family

"Kai!" Yoko shouted, unable to witness my body being punished like that. "I am going over there! This isn't a duel this is real. He can't take this."

"Mom, you can't. Yuma isn't going to stop even if u go storming over there. He will just attack you. We gotta let Kai handle this." Shouted Yuya, trying to stop his mother.

"Yuya is right. We know how you feel Mrs Sakaki; we feel the same way, but we can't stop what's happening. This is something Kai must face alone." Gong said as he got in front of the duel, preventing Yoko from getting out.

"But," Yoko said, falling to the floor, her powerlessness

Yuya helped her up as they walked back to the chair.

Yuzu still had her eyes fixed on the screen; hands still clasped together as if she was praying for some kind of miracle.

Yuya looked at her as he sat down. "You, ok?" He said softly.

"Yeah. I'm fine, I know Kai is going to win."

I clenched my teeth, my duel disk sparking from the backlash.

I struggled to get up. My Jacket had been ripped off from the impact and a few scratches had made their home on my body.

"My, my, you still think you have any hope of winning. Very well then, I'll end my turn and let you struggle against my Utopia. You better Entertain me, Boy."

I greeted my teeth as I firmed Yuma's insults, drawing my card as I stood my ground again.

Author: And with that the fight for victory has begun. The match has just started but it seems Yuma is ahead. Some insight on the Numbers have been revealed. I wonder how this battle will turn out. Stay tuned for the next chapter to find out!
