Chapter 139 - The Message Sent to Juárez

The next day, Alejandro, along with the DEA and FBI agent Kate, were on their way to extract their informant, who would tell them everything about the Sonora Cartel.

The information they had was useless to Dante, who was making preparations to bring everything to an end so he could finally return home and continue taking care of his family.

The federal agents wanted to have their own source of information—a direct line to explain to their superiors what they were doing in another country.

No one could act the way Dante was, which was why many had given him the freedom to access the information the DEA was obtaining through its unorthodox interrogations.

"What's going on in the city?" Kate asked, looking at numerous bodies impaled along the roadside, still untouched.

This was extremely strange to her. After all, if something like this had happened in the United States, numerous agents and forensic teams would already be on the scene. But here, in Mexico, it seemed like none of it mattered.

"It's a message," Matt responded with a smile, seeing how those criminals had been massacred.

Kate gave Matt a strange look and asked, "A message for whom?"

"There's a war between cartels…"

Alejandro gave Matt a brief glance and said, "Two days ago, the organization created by the Jiménez cartel was attacked. Most of their hitmen were killed, their severed heads placed on stakes, and a message was sent to everyone that they were coming for them."

"Does this have anything to do with SAMCRO and the Felipe Lobos Cartel?" Kate had her own sources of information. She wouldn't trust everything she heard, so she always formed her own judgments before jumping to conclusions.

She knew that this whole mission to find the terrorists was highly unusual—too many loose ends, and the proper procedures were definitely not being followed.

"We're only focusing on the Sonora Cartel. They're the damn terrorists who killed your agents in Arizona." Matt knew that Kate only cared about getting to the bottom of these terrorist attacks.

He had also promised Ángela Valdez that he would give her information about SAMCRO and their connections to the Felipe Lobos Cartel.

But there was little Kate could achieve with this investigation. They were simply looking for the best way to take down the biggest cocaine kingpins to slow down organized crime in their own country.

"It doesn't matter how many are involved—they're all going down."

Kate noticed that they had deviated from their planned route and asked, "Where are we going?"

"We're heading to the extraction point."

A few minutes later, they arrived at a massive building that at first glance appeared federal, but once they got out, they realized it wasn't as simple as some had thought.

"Who are these people?" Kate asked, looking at the men wearing tactical military-grade gear.

Matt looked at them and said, "Private security. They work for our informant."

"That person?" Kate immediately thought of the man who had sought her out, trying to get her to stop her personal investigation.

She knew that the DEA's informant was extremely dangerous—so powerful that his influence extended both inside and outside certain federal departments. To Kate, underestimating this informant would be a mistake.

When they all approached, they were stopped, and only three people were allowed inside.

Kate followed Matt and Alejandro, who passed through the main doors without the slightest fear of what they might encounter.

Before long, they were led to a dark room where the floor was covered in blood, and the surrounding sounds were growing fainter.

"Don't make any noise. Wait here." Alejandro knew that Kate's mindset could be unstable in certain aspects. While Dante wouldn't care if she saw what was about to happen, they didn't have the same immunity he had with his true identity.

When they arrived, they saw a man with a wool bag over his head and another person standing in front of him, holding a baseball bat. "You took your time…"

"There are a lot of streets we don't know."

"Makes sense…"

It was Matt's first time seeing SAMCRO's informant—the one who had been massacring the border city cartels competing with Mexico.

The informant, whose identity everyone except Alejandro was eager to uncover, turned around and, wearing a strange mask, said, "We have everything you're looking for. We'll strike within two days at most. We want everything that was lost to you before. Of course, we'll hand over the leader of the Sonora Cartel, but we're taking the Jiménez brothers."

"They're all yours."

"Absolutely not." Kate shot Matt a cold look and said, "If we catch them, we have to bring them to justice."

"My hand is justice," Dante said in a cold tone, staring at the detective who was becoming increasingly annoying.
