Koneko paused, glancing back over her shoulder with a faint smirk playing on her lips. "You can literally rip a dragon's head off," she said, her tone dry but teasing.
"You can break those." With that, she slipped out of the room, the door clicking shut behind her, leaving me alone with my predicament.
I blinked at the empty space she'd left behind, her words sinking in. She was right—I could break them. A sheepish grin tugged at my mouth as I flexed my arms, the ropes snapping apart with a satisfying crack.
The torn fibers fell to the bed in a messy heap, and I rubbed my wrists, feeling the faint sting where they'd dug in.
"You're an idiot," came a voice from the corner of the room. Voltaris, my ever-present shadow, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, his dark eyes glinting with amusement. His tall, lean frame was shrouded in his usual black cloak, blending into the shadows like he belonged there.
"I know," I admitted, letting out a small laugh as I swung my legs off the bed and stood up, brushing off the lingering embarrassment.
….
Later that day, I found myself in the ORC—Occult Research Club—room, a familiar space filled with plush couches, a wide wooden table, and the faint scent of old books and incense.
The soft glow of magical runes pulsed faintly along the walls, casting a warm light over the gathered team. I stood near the table, my arms crossed as I studied the stats of Rias's peerage displayed on a glowing holographic screen.
Numbers and names floated in the air—Koneko, Akeno, Kiba, and the others—each one a testament to their strength. They were powerful, no doubt about it.
They could win this rating game against Riser Phenex, but only if they played it smart. Riser and his Queen were wild cards, dangerous and unpredictable, and I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling in my gut.
My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden shimmer in the air. A magic circle flared to life on the floor, its intricate crimson lines spinning and pulsing with energy.
A moment later, Grafia emerged from it, stepping gracefully into the room. Her silver hair gleamed under the soft light, and her maid uniform was pristine, exuding an air of quiet authority.
Her sharp eyes surveyed the room briefly before settling on Rias.
"Is everyone ready?" Grafia asked, her voice calm and measured, cutting through the low murmur of conversation.
Rias, standing near the couch with her arms crossed, nodded confidently. Her red hair spilled over her shoulders like a cascade of fire, and her blue-green eyes shone with determination. "Yes, I believe we are," she replied, her tone steady as she glanced at her team.
Grafia's gaze shifted to me, her expression unreadable but piercing. "shiro," she said, her voice softening slightly, "Sirzechs would like to meet you. Would you please come with me? Don't worry—you'll be able to watch the rating game with him."
I tilted my head, curiosity piqued. Meeting Sirzechs, one of the Four Great Satans and Rias's older brother, wasn't something I'd expected today.
"Okay," I said with a shrug, then turned to Koneko, who stood nearby with her arms crossed, her golden eyes watching me quietly. "Bye, Koneko. Love you. Kick some ass out there."
A small, rare smile curved her lips, softening her usually stoic face. "I will," she replied, her voice firm yet warm. "Love you too."
"Bye, everyone else!" I called out, waving a hand at the rest of the group—Akeno, Kiba, and the others—who offered nods or smirks in return.
Before I could say more, the magic circle flared again, and the world around me dissolved into a swirl of light.
When the dizziness faded, I found myself in what looked like a viewing room. The space was elegant yet functional, with dark walls adorned with faint magical runes and a massive window that stretched across one side, offering a clear view of the rating game arena below.
Plush chairs lined the room, and a long table sat near the center, scattered with papers and a pitcher of water. I glanced around, taking it all in, when my eyes landed on him—Sirzechs Lucifer, lounging casually in one of the chairs.
He was striking, even at a glance. His crimson hair matched Rias's, though longer and tied back loosely, and his sharp features carried an air of effortless power.
His red eyes gleamed with intelligence as he watched me, a faint smile tugging at his lips. Without thinking, I activated my [Observe] skill, a handy trick that let me see the stats of anyone I focused on. The information unfolded in my mind like a mental scroll.

'So the cap on Luck is 100. Good to know,' I thought, filing that tidbit away as I blinked the display out of my vision.
Sirzechs rose from his seat with a smooth, graceful motion and extended a hand toward me. "Ah, you must be shiro," he said, his voice warm and rich, carrying a hint of amusement. "It's nice to meet you."
I stepped forward and took his hand, giving it a firm shake. His grip was strong but not overpowering, a subtle reminder of the strength behind his calm demeanor. "Nice to meet you too, Sirzechs," I replied, grinning slightly. "King of all devils, one of the Great Satans."
He let out a low chuckle, his red eyes sparkling with mirth as he released my hand. "You were right about him, Grafia," he said, glancing at the maid who stood silently nearby.
Grafia offered a small nod, her face as expressionless as ever, before turning and gliding out of the room, her silver hair swaying faintly with each step. The door closed behind her with a soft thud, leaving me alone with Sirzechs.
"Come, sit down," he said, gesturing to the chair beside his. "We have an hour until everyone else arrives."
"Okay," I agreed, dropping into the seat with a casual ease. The cushion sank slightly under my weight, and I leaned back, resting my hands on my knees.
Sirzechs settled into his own chair, crossing one leg over the other as he turned to me. "So, tell me," he began, his tone light but curious, "I hear you're dating my sister's Rook, Koneko."
"Yep," I said, nodding proudly. "I love her."
He chuckled again, the sound warm and genuine. "Yes, and from what I hear, she loves you too," he replied, his smile widening. "But let's get to the point. I need to know—are you a threat to any of us devils?"
I met his gaze steadily, my expression serious. "Only to those who'd try to hurt my friends or family," I said firmly, my voice leaving no room for doubt.
Sirzechs nodded, seeming satisfied with my answer. "Good," he said, then leaned forward slightly, his tone shifting to one of curiosity. "Now, from what I heard, you ax-kicked Riser. Is that true?"
"Yep," I replied with a grin, remembering the moment vividly. "He was being a prick, so I shut that crap down real fast."
Sirzechs laughed, a full, hearty sound that echoed through the room. "I honestly would've loved to see that," he said, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
"I still loved the look on Grafia's face," I added, smirking at the memory of her rare, fleeting shock.
"She usually doesn't show emotion," Sirzechs agreed, his tone fond as he glanced toward the door she'd exited through. Then his expression sobered slightly, and he fixed me with a steady look. "But I want to know—if they don't win today, what are you planning?"
