As soon as Jose stops talking, the Phantom Lord squad makes their move. The soil around Alex's feet suddenly moves and wraps around his legs, sealing his movement. Alex glances at the green-haired guy, Sol, who has Earth Magic.
Then suddenly, the biggest guy there, Aria, appears behind Alex. Alex is tall, but Aria still towers over him. Aria places his hands in front of him with his palms facing Alex and quickly casts his spell that forms a pair of purple magic circles in the air.
"Metsu!"
A very bright light appears around Alex's body as a powerful force is generated. Then a booming sound can be heard as a strong explosion happens on where Alex stands. The other Mages from Phantom Lord have jumped back because they've expected this.
"How sorrowful! Yet another powerful Mage has met his downfall. How sorrowful, very sorrowful." Aria suddenly cries, letting out a lot of tears.
Jose smirks while looking at the dust smoke in front of Aria. He's sure that even Alex won't survive that attack after being hit at point blank. But of course, he is bound to be disappointed when his opponent is Alex.
"You really are a hypocrite like they say. Crying for someone you hurt as if you care about them. Why don't you stop being a Mage and become an actor instead?"
Everyone is shocked to suddenly hear Alex's voice. The dust smoke disappears quickly, showing Alex that seems fine without any injury. He just stands there like before, as if nothing happens just now.
Aria looks around and finally realizes that there's nothing in the air. His spell should suck his target's magic power out of their body and then the drained magic power will float like a bubble, but there's nothing around them.
"Confused? Well, let me help you understand it." Alex turns around and Aria immediately jumps back while feeling a little frightened even though Alex really just turns around.
"I see, you don't want to know. Fine." Alex seems disappointed that Aria doesn't want to hear his lesson.
Previously, when Aria used that spell to drain his magic power, Alex was using his magic power absorption skill. He also used his great control over his magic power to keep them inside his body.
Alex's control over his magic power is greater than the sucking force from Aria's spell. That's why he can keep his magic power inside his body. Furthermore, he used his magic power absorption ability, making his magic power stick even stronger in his body.
Alex never fought Aria before, so this method is actually a gamble. He didn't know if it would work, but he has high confidence in it. After all, that spell is basically a magic absorption skill, just different from his skill, so he has a rather good understanding of how it works.
Most magic power absorption skills won't work on those with much greater magic control than the user, those who are concentrated, ready for that skill, know how to face it, and prepared to counter it.
That's why Aria mostly uses this skill as a surprise attack. It's because he can't let his target know his intention and counters it or escapes.
Makarov has great control over his magic power, but he wasn't ready for Aria's attack and didn't know how to counter such an attack for the first time. That's why it doesn't work against Makarov for the 2nd time because Makarov sensed Aria's presence and attacked him before he could use this spell again.
Alex has been prepared to face this spell from the beginning since they showed up. He is the most wary with this spell, so he has marked Aria from the beginning. Now that he knows he can counter this spell easily, he doesn't need to worry about anything anymore.
"Are you guys not going to make a move?" Alex taunts them with his right hand while smirking.
"Tsk! ATTACK HIM!" Jose shouts and his team starts to attack Alex again.
Numerous rocks fly toward Alex from all sides, followed by many rainbow-colored fireballs coming from the sky. They are about to hit Alex when his body is suddenly covered in hard spiky armor and a turtle shell appears on his back.
He transforms into the Humanoid Isobu form. The shape is similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but with spiky grey armor all over his body. He was unable to use this form in the past because it makes his body very heavy, but it's not a problem now.
His armor protects him from the rocks and fireballs, so they don't damage him at all. Then when Juvia attacks him with a massive amount of water that crashes on him from all sides, he isn't affected too because as Isobu, he has great control over water.
"Should I just stand here and let you guys attack me forever?" Alex mocks them because their attacks don't work and it obviously angers them.
Gajeel suddenly approaches Alex and sends a Dragon's Roar right in front of his face. But Alex blocks it with his left hand, stopping the Iron Dragon's Roar easily. It doesn't even push Alex back because their power difference is too big.
"Not bad, stronger than Wendy, but a little weaker than Natsu though." Alex nonchalantly comments on Gajeel's attack, making the Iron Dragon Slayer widen his eyes in shock.
Before Alex can do anything else, Jose makes a gesture of slamming his right hand down. Then suddenly, a massive explosion happens on where Alex stands. It's so strong that the Phantom Lord Mages that stand a little away from Alex are blown back by the force.
Alex is also blown away and he actually gets damaged by the explosion. The damage isn't serious, but it really shows the power of that spell because it can damage Alex's armored body. The damaged areas are the ones without armor, but even those areas are very tough, so that explosion was really strong.
When Alex lands, many invisible air explosions suddenly happen around his body. This is Aria's spell where he shoots compressed airspace towards his opponents. The compressed air then explodes and they are very strong.
Too bad though, Alex's body is full of very hard armor that protects him from the explosions. But the barrage of explosions makes him unable to move. Furthermore, they keep attacking him with spells to prevent him from attacking them back.
"Keep attacking him! Don't let him make a move! We'll eventually break his defense." Jose gives them a clear order. He knows that if Alex starts attacking, then it will be hard to defend, so they need to be the one attacking him.
Barrages of different elemental attacks are flying toward Alex and he just stays there, taking them all without moving. He creates hard corals all over his body to increase his defense and covers the unprotected parts.
Their attacks can't break through his solid defense even though they use strong attacks. Even Jose can't break through Alex's defense with his powerful dark beam attack. His super tough defense really makes them frustrated.
But that only lasts until Totomaru sends some orange fireballs in frustration. Alex thought he won't get affected by Totomaru's strange fire properties because he isn't Natsu who can eat fire, but he's wrong.
He can't eat fire like Natsu, but his senses including his smelling sense are much stronger than Natsu. So when the orange fireballs hit him from all sides, his nose picks up the utterly foul smell of those orange fireballs.
"GAH! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SMELL?" Alex jumps away and gasps for fresh air. Tears come out of his eyes because of how bad the odor he has just smelled.
The Phantom Lord Mages are dumbfounded when they look at his sorry state. Their powerful attacks didn't affect him much, yet some weal fireballs actually make him suffer like this. They all look at Totomaru who immediately understand and shoot many orange fireballs at Alex.
"ARGH! YOU DAMN STINKY FIRE MAGE! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU." Alex threatens Totomaru while running around frantically.
The others now work together to prevent Alex from running away while Totomaru becomes the main attacker with his stinky fire spells. He makes many attack variations like fireballs, fire arrows, fire tornadoes, etc, and they all really torture Alex.
Jose laughs evilly seeing Alex suffer from some simple spells. A sadistic person like him surely loves to see others suffer like this. But he doesn't realize that it will just make it worse for him because Alex swears that Jose will get something much worse later.
