The flames were extremely hot —hot enough to melt steel in seconds— but it was unable to be projected outwards and used as a ranged attack.
Nyx didn't know why this was, so he just attributed it to the flames' properties. Hotter than normal flames, but unable to be used as a projectile, unless it coated an object.
