And so the situation unfolded.
After disembarking from the ship, both Class B and Class C students surrendered their phones to their respective homeroom teachers. Following protocol, everyone donned wristbands that combined location tracking, health monitoring, and time display functions.
"Let's find a base first." Kakeru said.
He planned to exchange their 300 Base Points with Class B for money, but first, they needed to ensure those points remained valid.
If students withdrew prematurely, they'd forfeit most of their Base Points. Following proper procedures was crucial.
The first step was getting everyone to the island. Then they'd await Honami's group's signal about resource supplies. Only after that could he strategize about student withdrawals.
He registered as leader using his personal information, knowing other classes might deduce it.
His trust issues left him no choice but to take the leadership role himself.
He'd employ misdirection tactics, making it appear as if he'd given up on the exam.
But just then, they encountered their first obstacle.
Which was...
"Ryūen, look, there's a cornfield ahead! We're in luck. The corn is ready for harvest!" Daichi exclaimed.
"Heh... The school loves doing this." Kakeru said, "They talk about island survival, but they're just handing out resources, aren't they?"
His mood had soured considerably.
Honami's group from Class B was being cautious, insisting on inspecting the bases before committing to any resource exchanges.
If they discovered these edible resources, her group would likely only trade for a fraction of the supplies, preferring to harvest the food directly.
This meant their cooperation with Honami might not exhaust all 200 Base Points, jeopardizing their chance at earning 800,000 Private Points monthly.
"Hey, this corn is edible." Daichi plucked an ear of corn and displayed it.
The corn appeared well-tended, in harvest season, and tender — it would likely taste excellent.
Albert glanced at Kakeru, who nodded, planning to have their classmates harvest the corn.
"Wait, Ryūen." Called out a girl with beautiful silver hair from within the group.
It was Hiyori Shiina, Class C's beauty.
"We need to check if this base is already occupied." She said.
"Who the hell would claim a base this early?" Kakeru said, "This base is closest to the beach entrance point."
"Ryūen!" A student called out, "There's a card reader with a message. It says: Class D remaining time 07:54:50."
"..."
A heavy silence fell.
Class D had already claimed the base.
Since bases could be occupied for 8 hours, this meant they'd claimed it just 6 minutes ago.
"Damn!"
Had they really lost their chance before even starting?
Daichi sprinted back to the beach to ask their homeroom teacher Kazuma how many Points they'd lost.

"50 points, Ryūen!"
Feeling guilty about picking the corn, Daichi sprinted back at full speed, arriving out of breath.
"Our class's 300 Base Points got docked by 50 points."
"..."
Kakeru closed his eyes, frustration evident on his face.
"Damn it! Let's find another base!" He said, "I've got a bad feeling about this. That bastard Oreki must be working with Class D on resource provisions. That would be Katsuragi's style, but I suspect Houtarou Oreki isn't following Katsuragi's playbook at all. That cunning bastard!"
His curses continued.
But Class C students had more pressing concerns than his language.
Because—
"This place has been claimed by Class D!"
"This one's also been occupied by Class D."
"Don't go into their vegetable garden — we might lose more points—"
If they lost too many points now, they'd risk losing everything.
What resources would they have left to sell to Class B?
Moreover, according to the rules:
[Points will be deducted for lingering without reason or using occupied territory, and non-leaders attempting to use key cards.]
They needed to find a safe base quickly, as even staying here might cost them points.
But—
"I can't go on..."
"Ryūen, we've been walking for over an hour, and I haven't had a drink since getting off the ship."
"I need to use the bathroom."
Some students couldn't hold it anymore.
This was an island — there were no proper toilets. And according to the rules:
[Points will be deducted for physical illness or serious injury, obvious environmental pollution, absence from morning and evening roll calls, violence against other classes or destruction of property.]
They'd lose Points for relieving themselves randomly.
"Then use the portable toilet from the free supplies the school provided." Kakeru said.
The school had provided some basic supplies: two tents, matches, feminine hygiene products and sunscreen for the girls, garbage bags, and one portable toilet.
The portable toilet was simple — just cardboard and bags.
It consisted of cardboard boxes and plastic sheeting for privacy, with special chemical-filled bags that would solidify waste and control odors.
But this makeshift solution was essentially a glorified diaper that had to be reused. And one temporary toilet for forty students?
"... No way." The student took one look and refused immediately.
Were they being too picky?
One glance was enough — absolutely not.
Seeing no alternative, Kakeru decided to spend some Base Points on supplies first.
Since most students would withdraw eventually anyway, they might as well use some Base Points now.
