Over the past year, Laurent's hard work had significantly improved their financial situation. So now, even though Dave had lost Washington Co., their lives hadn't fallen into chaos or ruin.
Had it been before—back when she still relied entirely on Dave to survive—his fall would have meant the collapse of their whole household. She would've been like a parasite, unable to sustain herself, nearly starving the moment Dave was gone.
But now? Life carried on just the same.
Some might say she was too much of a tough woman. Some might say she was a fool. Everyone has their own values and philosophy in life. She couldn't control what others thought, and she wouldn't be controlled by them either. As long as she and the people she cared about could live with peace of mind and comfort, that was enough.
