Laurent was quite touched. She also clearly understood that everything he was doing was for them to be together sooner, and she knew he was trying hard to win her father's approval.
After thinking for a moment, she suggested,
"How about you take Emma back by yourself? I really don't have time."
"You're not going?" Dave immediately frowned.
"You're going to take Emma? But not me?"
His first reaction was to frown.
"I'm afraid your dad might keep Emma and kick me out."
There was no way around it—Alex had left such a deep impact on Dave that just the thought of Alex made his head hurt.
With Laurent by his side, he felt more confident and courageous to go, but if it was just him, he didn't want to go at all. With Laurent there, if Alex did anything dangerous, Laurent could speak up and stop Alex for him. But if he went alone with Emma, and Alex tried to make a move on him again, how could the little girl stop him?
