Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Misundertandings

Chapter 10: Misunderstandings.

—My name is Lux. Nice to meet you all!— Lux said, smiling at his new classmates, who cheered at the idea of having a new friend to get to know.

All the students except for one.

Bianca stared at the brown-haired boy in disbelief, her eyes wide open in shock.

Standing before her was the very person who had saved her from the monster yesterday—the magician boy with the strange hat.

What is he doing here?

Is he following me?

Bianca thought it was too much of a coincidence that the only person who knew what had happened yesterday had suddenly transferred to her school, her class, just one day after meeting him.

This had to be Bianca's luck acting up again, as always.

The only thing missing now was for him to sit next to her.

Bianca looked around. She could see everyone smiling, even her friend Zelena, who was looking at Lux with her usual childlike grin.

If they knew what the new boy was capable of, they wouldn't be smiling like that.

—Hi, Bianca!— Lux exclaimed cheerfully.

Bianca's thoughts stopped instantly at the sound of her name.

Lux had carefully looked at each student, pausing as he recognized the black and pink-tinted hair in the middle of the classroom. He knew exactly who it belonged to.

Both Zelena and the entire class turned their eyes toward Bianca.

Bianca looked at the boy. His smile was small, and his golden eyes held a hint of amusement.

This is bad.

—Bianca, did you already know the new guy?— Zelena asked her friend curiously.

—No, I don't… Well, yes, but no…— Bianca started stammering.

—Let me explain, I…— but she couldn't finish because she was interrupted.

—What do you mean no? You're breaking my heart. Was what happened last night not special for you too?— Lux complained, pretending to sound hurt.

The entire class fell into silence.

What did he just say?!

Some students exchanged glances, others had their mouths hanging open in shock, and a few had wide eyes filled with disbelief.

Meanwhile, the teacher had already sat down at his desk to take a nap while waiting for the chaos to unfold in…

…3, 2, 1.

—WHAT?!— The entire class shouted in disbelief.

Bianca's cheeks burned with embarrassment.

What Lux had just said was completely out of context. She should have expected this to happen. Knowing her classmates well, it was obvious they would react this way.

While she cursed the brown-haired boy internally, everyone else was lost in their own thoughts.

Some of the boys looked heartbroken upon hearing that their crush was in a romance, while others simply enjoyed the spectacle from their seats as if this were some drama series.

The girls, on the other hand, were jumping with excitement. A newly formed couple! They were already thinking about how to spread this thrilling gossip—everyone except for one.

—Bianca, is that true?…— Zelena asked in a weak voice, her head tilted downward, hiding her eyes.

—… AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?!— Zelena suddenly shouted, her eyes filled with tears.

To Zelena, this was an unforgivable betrayal, one that deserved severe punishment.

Bianca was in for a long lecture from her.

—It's not what you think! This is all a misunderstanding, I…— Bianca tried to explain but was interrupted once again.

—Misunderstanding? But when I carried you in my arms all the way to your house, you asked me where I learned to do that— Lux said, sounding completely sure of his words.

With those words, the class erupted into chaos.

—KYAAAA!—

The girls screamed in excitement at what Lux had just said.

—He carried her in his arms!— they exclaimed frantically, completely losing control.

—That?— a boy asked in confusion.

—What exactly does the new guy mean by "that"?— another boy asked anxiously.

—I never thought Bianca was that kind of girl…— her pigtail-wearing friend exclaimed, a look of excitement on her face.

Lux's words had only made the situation worse, Bianca thought, her face still burning red with embarrassment.

She knew exactly what he was talking about, but the way he said it made it sound way too suggestive.

—BIANCA! How could you not tell me?! I thought we were friends!— Zelena cried dramatically, exaggerating her sobs. The disappointment had hit her hard.

It was obvious who the real drama queen was here.

—YOU'RE NOT HELPING!— Bianca shouted, trying to get her friend to calm down.

—You know, we could…— Lux started to say but was immediately cut off.

—YOU STAY QUIET!— Bianca ordered, pointing at Lux and glaring at him intensely, not giving him a chance to speak further.

—Are they having a lover's quarrel?— someone asked from across the room, making everyone turn their attention to Bianca with even more questions.

—Bianca, tell us everything!

—Bianca, how long have you known each other?

—How was your first date?

—Is he your prince charming?!

—What happened last night?!

This was bad.

Bianca couldn't tell them the truth. No one would believe that the new guy was a magician and that magic was real. She would just end up sounding crazy.

And there was no stopping the misunderstanding now because, like all humans, her classmates were gossip addicts.

She had to find a way out of this mess—any way possible.

If this continued, by lunchtime, there might even be rumors that she was engaged to Lux.

—Everyone, SHUT UP, or I'll fail you all!— Professor Wick suddenly shouted, standing up from his seat, instantly silencing the entire room.

The whole school knew better than to anger Professor Wick. Everyone knew what he was capable of with just a pencil.

Bianca internally thanked the professor for stepping in. She thought she was going to lose her mind.

If she knew that he had let this happen just to kill class time, she wouldn't be so grateful.

—Lux, since it seems like you already know Bianca, why don't you sit next to her?— the professor suggested.

Bianca cursed her luck once again.

Lux nodded and headed toward his seat as if nothing had happened, hearing the hushed murmurs of his new classmates.

He sure made a memorable first impression.

Lux sat down in his seat by the window, placing his things in order, ready for the day ahead.

Feeling Bianca's piercing gaze, he simply turned to his side and smiled at her with the same innocent grin that defined him.

—I'll talk to you during the break— Bianca said, loud enough for only him to hear.

Lux simply gave her a thumbs-up, accepting her invitation.

Bianca could only hold her head in frustration.

It was just the first period, and she was already in deep trouble.

And she had to fix it as soon as possible.
