Chapter 19 - Was this the right thing to do (Part II)

Miami, Fl

Thylonius

"So, you're telling me, for years you've observed this phenomenon? So it hasn't just been a couple of times?"

I was now in deep thought because I have experienced this same observation when at times when I see Ni get into a zone but it's only been a couple of times. In her explanation every time I've performed an assassination, I would display other worldly skills, and my outward appearance will be as such. The only thing is that I never felt any differently than everyday life. I trained and honed my skills as a sniper through repetition and hard work. It was not product of enhanced abilities. It would make more sense in Ni's case because the way she moved. Her speed and strength were levels that humans should not be able to achieve. I only started seeing this recently. So, I influenced things with my actions? No that's far too presumptuous, I don't have enough data. The only thing I remember is being hyper focused, nothing else out of the ordinary.

"Look alive, we're close." Ni slowed the vehicle as we approached our old neighborhood in the early morning. After 16 Hours of driving in the dead of night in a small sedan we were exhausted and hungry. The humidity was thick as you could see the fog masking our extended view. The job wasn't done yet, so there was no time to exhale. "We will park a couple blocks away to scope out the situation. If all is clear, we'll retrieve what we need and head straight to the airport." I nodded and got prepared to exit the car. As we came to a stop on the side of the road, the neighborhood was still quite yet to wake up and start the day. We exited the car, the dew-soaked grass crunched as we cut through backyards, trying to limit our visibility. I stayed vigilant looking for anything out of the ordinary. Everything was quiet. Only thing we could hear was the chorus of birds and bugs. Slowly are old residence came into view with nothing out of the ordinary. Our house that we resided for the past couple of years was retrofitted to have a higher than ordinary level of surveillance. We were international criminals but was very conscious of outward appearances. This resulted in purposeful holes in surveillance. We had no idea if the data from this surveillance was easily accessed by our former employers. Regardless, we couldn't take chances. We had to be ghost here, get in and get out like we were never here.

"Ni, lets head in through the back." We made our way to the flank of the house trying to avoid multiple camera angles. Spending as much time here we made sure to take advantage of every blind spot. Instead of heading toward the back door. We headed toward the cellar door which was located at the edge of the backyard. Problem was that a camera would have that area in view every few seconds as the camera rotated back and forth for a 270-degree view. One at a time we had to enter. Staying in the blind spot I directed Ni to unlock the door, unlock the door, come back, open the door and enter, close the door behind her and wait for me to do the same. Fortunately, we entered the area beneath the house without any trouble. This area felt very muggy as the A/C had been turned off since no one was supposed to be home. Although I didn't venture far into this area of the house, I knew we were scot-free until we reached upstairs. Only thing down here was our training areas. Our new identities and cash were in Lucius room behind his safe.

"So now that everything is in the open, what do you think?" As we walked down the hallway no better time to broach this subject. I'm guessing she was talking about the abnormalities of our abilities. There wasn't enough information to do anything about this phenomenon.

"We honestly don't have enough information; we don't even sense any formalities within ourselves when the sensation occurs. What can we do about it." Ni gave me an unsatisfied look.

"Doesn't mean there aren't ways to gather more information, maybe we should record ourselves, get a better understanding of-" It was overly loud but both of us stopped abruptly as we heard the front door above us open and close. Faintly, we heard muffled voices as well. We were not alone. We both stopped talking and changed the way we moved to be more efficient and less noise. Did we want to sneak to our objective or did we want to go guns blazing. Based on the footsteps and voices only three people were currently walking around the house. Luckily, being we were around training equipment and armory. I directed Ni over to the armory where there were handguns and rifles. I entered and picked up a rifle and two handguns and hid them underneath my clothing. I made sure to pick up silencers, not wanting to make too much of a scene. Ni did not take anything and just observed my choices. Based on my choices she would know how we would play this. Once I was finished, she still had not moved to pick up anything and I look at her questioningly. She just calmly lifted her fist to acknowledge she was fine with them. She had now reached a point where she felt like her fist were deadlier or just as deadly as any weapon. I could not argue with her. The lighter she was, the better chance we had at achieving our goal without any lasting evidence we were here.

We made our way towards the stairs that led to the main house and the muffled voices became clearer to hear.

"Any clues yet to where those brats went? We need to delete everything connecting us to him. We do not need any information about the company becoming public knowledge." It was predictable, although I doubted Lucius would have information to easily access on a computer. His involvement in events in D.C must have had been exposed. This was quicker than we expected, this must have been something the company was tipped off to before anything became public. A decision needed to be made. Should we kill them or just knock them out? Would suspicion arise if they never returned? Could we knock them out without being seen? If the company sent them, would they not be very skilled? I was agonizing over my decision before Ni pulled me aside and behind her. Her eyes were a deep shade of grey. I felt an intense but controlled force coming from her. This is what she spoke of, but she looked stronger and calmer than she's ever been. She opened the door leading to the main part of the house, to see no one in front of us. She crouched down and moved forward into the house leaving no sound as she disappeared from my view. Within 10 seconds I heard two bodies fall to the ground. I finally moved forward. Instead of heading to the primary bedroom where I knew our goals lied, I headed to the office where I knew surveillance was stored. I needed to be rid of any evidence of the fight that was just had. I moved quickly, wary of anyone still in the house. I approached the office, and I felt a presence behind the door. I stopped right at the door and listened to the hustled rustling through files and papers. They must be looking at everything possible while they were here. I opened the door and luckily the agents back was turned towards the door.

"I know you all have not checked everything upstairs. So, you better have something substantial for m-ahckkk!" I came up behind him and put him into chokehold. He was helpless as he struggled to get free. Within seconds his body went limp and slid to the floor. I released him and started looking around the room. It was a mess with files and papers anywhere. I never understood the disregard of order when looking for something. You could never reanalyze where you been if everything weren't where it was before. I ignored the papers and looked at the computer. Video was playing of all surveillance, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Bodies that should have been on the floor seemed to be invisible. They must have frozen the feed beforehand. However, that did not mean something was not recording. I closed the computer and popped out all internal hard drives. I was not going to take any risks. I turned around to leave because my objective was done, but I Ni was standing at the door with the duffle we were looking for. Her eyes were back to normal, but she was as calm as she ever was.

"Let's get out of here." she turned around and started heading back towards the cellar. I looked down at the hand that was holding the duffle and noticed that she also had a thumb drive in the same hand. Looks like we had data to sift through.
