Evander sat at the long, conference table, his fingers idly tapping against the polished surface as he waited. The air was thick with the scent of expensive cologne and leather, but it did little to mask the tension that coiled in his chest. He could not believe he was here, sitting across from Kai of all people, but their fathers had insisted. Business, they said. A matter concerning their intertwined family holdings.
Evander exhaled through his nose, his patience running thin. The only reason he hadn't walked out yet was out of respect for his father. But every second in the same room as Kai felt like a test of his self-control.
Kai leaned back in his chair, an infuriating smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He was dressed impeccably, as always, in a tailored suit that probably cost more than the average person made in a year. But no amount of luxury could mask the rot underneath. To Evander, Kai was nothing more than a man grasping at something he had already lost.
