Chapter 89 - His Wife

Evander leaned back in the driver's seat, the low rumble of the engine breaking the quiet. The phone was pressed to his ear, Hugo's voice coming through just as sharp and composed as ever.

"...From what I've gathered," Hugo said, "the Harrington family has never treated Delphinia particularly well. She's estranged from her father, Robert, and her stepmother, Helena. The only person in that house she might have any kind of bond with is her stepsister, Lyvia. Even then, it's not a close bond—more polite than anything else."

Evander's hand tightened on the steering wheel, his jaw clenching as Hugo continued.

"They sent her off to boarding school when she was young," Hugo explained, his voice laced with a hint of disgust. "From what I've uncovered, it wasn't just for her education. It was a convenient way to keep her out of sight. She's never been the 'golden child,' as they say. They didn't make much effort to involve her in the family, and she was always treated as an outsider."
