Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight

"Again."

I instructed. As Ezra threw his hand out, a wave of Force barreled toward me, only to be dispersed by my interference.

"You let go, you can't just throw it like you throw a rock, keep a hold on it."

I raised an eyebrow as another wave of force was sent towards me, it was. Iter, but still not good enough. I waved my hand again, the wave of force dispercindispersingt made contact with me.

The force pulled on me for what seemed like the hundredth time in the past month, it wanted something, wanted me to follow it, and it was getting increasingly urgent.

But I couldn't leave Ezra alone for that long. Sure he was old enough for me to trust him with himself, but I wasn't sure.

I took a deep breath and sighed, I wanted to go, but I didn't want to leave Ezra alone, so, the only logical choice was to take him with me.

"Ezra, how do you feel about going on a trip?"

Ezra opened his eyes, tilting his head in confusion.

"A trip? Where are we going?"

I smiled at his confusion, putting my hands on my hips.

"Into the unknown, little brother."

He stared at me for a moment, eyebrows raised, and looking distinctly unimpressed.

"You have no idea, do you?

I just nodded at his astute observation. I had no idea where the hell we were going.

___

"Are we sure all this is necessary?"

I hummed in response, attaching a crate full of food to the speeder, right behind a crate full of fuel.

"Yup, it is, we don't know how long this trip will take."

Ezra just sighed in response, his arms folded as he sat on the speeder. Ignoring his disgruntled attitude, I walked over and sat on the seat.

The engine hummed to life as the wind brushed past my face. The drive was quiet, for a few minutes.

"How long will this take?"

I shrugged to the question, not really knowing either. I was going off on a feeling that was given to me by a supernatural presence telling me to just go in a certain direction.

"I have no idea, so entertain yourself somehow."

Ezra grumbled, putting his forehead on my back, and sighed dramatically, like a few hours on the road was the biggest problem in his life right now.

I hummed, reaching into my pocket and taking out a datapad, poking his head with it.

"Here, I downloaded some games."

I felt his head leave my back and the data pad was taken from my hand. I heard the distinct sound of a holo projector activating, and surprisingly, the next few hours were quiet.

"Hey, beat this boss for me."

I scoffed, turning my head to look over my shoulder at him, raising an amused eyebrow.

"You want me to fight a boss for you while I'm driving?"

He just rolled his eyes.

"Then switch with me, I can drive."

I deadpanned, he really wanted me to let him drive a speeder? Sure the road was clear, but I was sure he would manage to crash somehow.

"Yeah, no. We'll stop in the evening, I'll beat the boss then, just do side quests or something."

He grunted in response, the brat.

"What's the point of side quests? They're dumb and don't even give you any experience points."

I chuckled. Tell that to the RPG players, kid, those guys will do all side quests, all those mind-numbing, boring, tedious, exhausting side quests...

"Suffer in silence."

I smirked, looking back forward.

"Hey!"

___

I hummed, pressing down on the torch and turning off the light to preserve the battery. I looked over at Ezra, who was already asleep in the sleeping bag.

I sighed, standing up and walking over to the speeder. I crossed my arms, looking at the surroundings, the large rocks, hills, and little to no vegetation.

This planet was... uninhabitable, I could only assume that it was only occupied because of the minerals that were mined long ago, and civilization just, stayed, I guess.

I scratched my cheek, my eyes resting on a figure that looked like a large wolf, staring right at me.

So, the animals were still here, besides the Loth cats, that is.

I tilted my head at the animal, feeling the faint pulsing of the force around it.

My hand reached for the sniper blaster that I had attached to the speder, unlatching it and resting the barrel on my shoulder.

I wasn't planning to shoot it, we had food enough to last us for days, but just in case it decided that we looked like a good snack, I would keep it on hand.

The force pulsed powerfully as if warning me that I was about to make a mistake.

I narrowed my eyes, my shoulders tensing at the pulse wearily. The force may be telling me that this animal wouldn't hurt me, but was it worth it to test that theory?

I sucked in a breath and took the rifle off my shoulder, letting it rest against the speeder, crossing my arms.

If anything, I would use the Force to protect Ezra, I didn't need a rifle.

The animal and I stared at each other, I felt his eyes on me, observing, judging, evaluating. It was seemingly intelligent, and since it had some sort of connection with the Force, it should know to avoid me.

After a while, it turned its head toward the direction Ezra and I were going, before turning around and disappearing behind the hill it was standing on.

I breathed a sigh of relief, tilting my head back to look at the stars. That was one encounter avoided, thankfully.

I just hoped it wouldn't get the rest of its pack to come after us while we traveled, I didn't know what kind of animal it was.

I looked over at Ezra, who was peacefully sleeping, completely unaware of anything happening around him.

"... I'm gonna have to pull all-nighters, aren't I?"

I muttered, rubbing my forehead. Great.
