Chapter 6 - Knew you'd be cold

Flip

Detective Jones shook his head after looking at the contents in the file. "This doesn't look good for you Ms. Cooper."

Brooklyn sighed, getting bored. She was tired of waiting for her attorney to get there.

Detective Jones and her had already spent 20 minutes in the interrogation room but no development was in sight.

"Staying silent won't get you out of this Ms. Cooper." Detective Jones said, as he was fed up with Brooklyn's calm and nonchalant attitude ever since they entered the interrogation room.

"For crying out loud. It's Mrs Easton. Are you deliberately trying to get under my skin or what?"

Detective Jones chuckled. "Right. My apologies. I forgot that you're now a married woman."

Brooklyn rolled her eyes at him.

"Now back to the topic. The money you got from selling those fake paintings. You laundered it to a paper company." He scoffed. "Did you really think we wouldn't be able to trace it back to you with all the fake accounts you opened in your attempt to split the money?"

"and here I was, thinking that you're a very capable detective." Brooklyn shook her head in disappointment. "I'm disappointed."

"You!"

Knock Knock

Mr Hayes, Brooklyn's attorney entered the interrogation room bringing with him the legal papers to grant Brooklyn her bail out of police custody.

The cold night air greeted Brooklyn as she stepped out of the police station. She quickly got inside the Rolls Royce that was parked right in front of the police station. The bodyguard closed her back seat car door and made his way around to the passenger seat. Kane started the car, driving them out of the police station's premises.

Brooklyn exhaled, rubbing her palms together in an attempt to warm herself. She froze in place when a blazer was placed on her lap. Brooklyn glanced at her left hand side to see Felix already staring at her.

How didn't I notice that I had company? She chided herself.

Felix chuckled, already guessing what her pretty little mind was thinking about.

"I'm sure you don't want to catch a cold."

Brooklyn didn't argue back. She put on the blazer. A couple of minutes later, Brooklyn felt warm. She could actually acknowledge the warm temperature inside the car. Her feet were no longer freezing.

Before picking her up, Felix had made sure that the AC temperature was raised because he knew that Brooklyn would be freezing cold by the time that they'd pick her up.
