Chapter 115 - A New Beginning and the 4th of July Celebration

Moving Forward

The days passed, and Tara's case gradually faded from memory. Though the initial shock of her actions had left an impression, the academy moved on. The final semester began on June 5th, and the students were now focused on their studies.

Maria had thrown herself into her coursework, determined to finish her training with excellence. The other nuns followed suit, embracing the routine of prayers, lectures, and discussions with renewed enthusiasm.

One afternoon, as Maria and Catherine walked down the corridor toward their lecture hall, Catherine sighed.

Catherine: "It feels strange, doesn't it? Just a few weeks ago, everything was so chaotic. And now, it's as if nothing happened."

Maria nodded.

Maria: "That's life, Catherine. People come and go, but time never stops for anyone. We just have to keep moving forward."

Catherine smiled.

Catherine: "That's a very wise thing to say."

Maria laughed lightly.

Maria: "Well, I try."

They reached their classroom just as Sister Melissa entered to begin the day's lesson.

The Announcement of the 4th of July Celebration

By July 1st, the academy had settled into its routine, but an exciting announcement broke the monotony.

During the morning assembly, Father Robert stepped up to the podium, clearing his throat.

Father Robert: "Good morning, everyone. As you all know, the 4th of July is approaching—a day that holds deep significance for this nation. To honor the spirit of freedom, the academy has planned a celebration event."

A murmur of excitement spread through the crowd.

Father Robert: "The event will include speeches, rhymes, and special prayers for our country. I encourage everyone to participate, as it is not just an event but a reminder of our duty toward our nation and faith."

The students and nuns exchanged eager glances.

Father Robert: "Those interested in participating should submit their names to the administration by today's evening."

As soon as the assembly ended, Catherine turned to Maria with bright eyes.

Catherine: "I have to give a speech!"

Maria chuckled.

Maria: "I knew you'd say that."

Nathaniel, one of the academy's senior students, joined them, grinning.

Nathaniel: "And I heard Kate wants to participate in the rhymes!"

Kate, who had just walked up, blushed.

Kate: "Well… I do love poetry. And this seems like the perfect occasion."

Maria smiled.

Maria: "I think you'll be amazing, Kate. As for me… I'd love to sing the national anthem."

Nathaniel raised his hand.

Nathaniel: "Then I'm joining you! Let's sing it together."

And just like that, the 4th of July event preparations began.

The Day of the Celebration

Finally, the 4th of July arrived. The academy's main hall was decorated beautifully with American flags, banners, and candles. The air buzzed with excitement as students and teachers gathered for the event.

Father Robert opened the ceremony with a special prayer, thanking God for the blessings of freedom, faith, and unity.

Then, it was time for the performances.

Catherine's Speech

Catherine stepped onto the stage, her heart pounding. She took a deep breath and began.

Catherine: "Honorable teachers, dear friends, and respected Father Robert—today, as we celebrate the 4th of July, let us remember that this day is more than fireworks and parades. It is a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and faith."

A hush fell over the audience as they listened intently.

Catherine: "America was built on the principles of liberty and justice, but those principles were not freely given—they were earned through the struggles of those who came before us. As future leaders of faith, we must carry that same spirit of dedication and righteousness in all that we do."

She paused, her voice steady.

Catherine: "Let us never take our freedom for granted. Let us use it wisely—to serve, to uplift, and to bring hope to those in need. That is the true essence of independence."

As she finished, the hall erupted in applause.

Kate's Rhymes

Next came Kate, standing with a small group of students to perform a patriotic rhyme:

"Red, white, and blue, shining so bright,

A symbol of hope, of freedom, of light.

We stand together, strong and free,

A nation of faith, of unity!"

Her voice was filled with passion, and by the end, the entire audience was clapping along with the rhythm.

The National Anthem by Maria and Nathaniel

Finally, Maria and Nathaniel took their places at the microphone.

As the first notes of "The Star-Spangled Banner" played, Maria's voice rang out, clear and strong.

"Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light…"

Nathaniel joined in, their voices blending perfectly.

As they reached the final verse, the entire audience stood up, placing their hands over their hearts.

"O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!"

The last note echoed through the hall, followed by a thunderous standing ovation.

Maria smiled, her heart swelling with pride.

A Moment of Reflection

After the event, the students gathered in the cafeteria for a special meal, sharing their excitement over the performances.

As Maria sat with Catherine, Kate, and Nathaniel, she felt a deep sense of contentment.

Maria: (smiling) "That was… incredible."

Catherine: "It truly was. I feel so proud to be a part of this."

Nathaniel: (grinning) "And I must say, our anthem performance was the highlight of the night!"

Kate laughed.

Kate: "I think we all did our part to make this event special."

Maria glanced around the cafeteria, taking in the joyful atmosphere.

For the first time in weeks, she felt free from the shadows of the past.

Today was not just about celebrating a nation's independence—it was about embracing the freedom to move forward, to create new memories, and to cherish the bonds of friendship and faith.

And as fireworks lit up the sky outside, Maria knew—this was a moment she would never forget.
