My name is Ivanna. I am the daughter of Misha Sidorov, the head of the Krasnoyarsk Bratva. I have just graduated and I’m about to go to college. My life is perfect until Sergio Sakharov comes into the picture.

I lunge for the doorknob and pull. The corridor stretches in front of me and I stumble as fast as I can toward the stairs. I don't stop, flying down the steps until I get to the first floor. Moving blindly, I hurry towards the kitchen and to the backdoor.


Except, I end up in the wrong direction and when I look up, I'm standing in front of Sergio's office door.


I stand there aghast for a moment, waiting and staring at the ornate wood and wondering why I'm so perpetually drawn to him. Why am I so intent on self-sabotage? Do I hate myself and my family this much?


The door opens before I can turn away. "what is it, Ivanna?"


I look up at him, unable to even form words. The hurt and fear strangle my tongue and rob me of my breath.


Whatever it is that he sees on my face makes him tug me inside. I don't even bother to fight back. I just let him lead me to his desk chair where he sits and pull me on his lap. I lean into his warmth as I try to get a grip of my emotions.
