At this point, the two adults were completely flustered. Albert quickly picked Olive up and kept reassuring her.
"Sweetheart, I'm sorry, Daddy and Mommy won't argue anymore..."
Olive continued to cry, her big eyes, wet with tears, still focused on Cynthia. Cynthia, however, wasn't as patient as Albert. This wasn't even her fault, so she pressed her lips together and remained silent, giving Olive a warning glare, the kind that said, "If you cry any more, I'll put you down."
But to her surprise, with Albert as her backup, the little girl cried even louder. She sobbed as though she had suffered some great injustice, saying,
"I don't want you to fight, I don't want you to fight, woo woo—"
As Olive's cries grew louder, Cynthia could feel Albert's disapproving gaze hovering over her head. She had no choice but to reach out and hug the little girl.
"Olive, stop crying. We won't argue anymore, okay?"
