"Is everyone at home dead?"
Shangguan Jing asked in surprise, "Besides his grandmother, what about his parents?"
"His dad couldn't make any money and even beat his wife; they say the kid's mom ran off as soon as she gave birth to him. That man is just a scumbag, always lazy and fooling around with women.
If he ever made a little money, he'd spend it on women, how could he save any?
A few days ago, he disappeared somewhere and hasn't come back since. Someone went to their house and found the child's grandmother had starved to death, leaving the last of the food for the child."
"Can you take us to see the child?"
"Yeah, if no one's taking care of the child, we could help send him to the local orphanage. We can't just let a little kid live on his own, right?"
The owner of the small shop listened and felt it made sense.
"Okay, I'll take you there."
The child's house was just down another street nearby and they arrived quickly.
By this time, it had gotten dark.
