Just when things were getting heated, Jenny suddenly pulled away from Emily's lips, tears trailing down her face as she started sobbing. Emily sat there, mouth open wide, not understanding what was happening.
"Um, are you okay?" Emily reached out to wipe away the tears from Jenny's cheek, but she instinctively pulled away.
Jenny started wiping the tears herself while apologizing, "I'm sorry, I... I'm sorry." Emily didn't know what was happening. Why did Jenny start crying? Was she that bad of a kisser? She didn't know, so she waited patiently for Jenny to calm down.
Jenny took a deep breath and wiped off the rest of the tears. "I'm sorry, but I can't do this. I can't pretend Haley didn't mean anything to me. I can't do that to you and to myself. It wouldn't be fair."
Emily nodded as if understanding, but the truth was, she had lost touch with those moral feelings she used to have. The guilt and the regrets were now foreign concepts to her, even though they didn't used to be.
