Chapter 176 - Chapter 173 - Care For Her. Deeply.

Herbert Medical And Technology

Blaze strode down the hallway of the 16th floor, his arms securely wrapped around Savannah's fragile frame. His pace was steady and resolute, each step echoing through the quiet corridor. Employees who had been going about their day suddenly halted, their eyes widening in disbelief at the sight of their usually cold and distant boss carrying an unconscious woman.

None of them had ever witnessed this side of him.

Whispers trailed behind him like a shadow, filled with shock and speculation, but Blaze paid them no attention. His focus was solely on the woman in his arms—the one whose presence stirred something deep within him.

When he reached the large wooden double doors at the end of the hall, he adjusted his grip on Savannah, freeing one hand to push the door open wide. As he stepped inside, he kicked the door shut behind him with a controlled yet forceful motion, effectively shutting out the outside world.

His office was a vast and elegant space, adorned with minimalistic yet sophisticated décor. The floor-to-ceiling windows behind his desk showcased a stunning view of the city skyline, but at that moment, Blaze didn't even glance at them.

He headed straight for the plush black leather couch on the left side of the room and gently lowered Savannah onto it. His movements were tender, as if he feared she might break.

Her eyes were fully closed now, her chest rising and falling in slow, uneven breaths. She looked so small, so delicate, lying there against the dark leather.

Blaze crouched down next to her, his keen eyes scanning her face. Her skin looked unnaturally pale, and her lips were slightly parted, as if she was struggling to catch her breath. He reached out, his fingers lightly brushing her forehead.

Warm.

Too warm.

A frown deepened on his face, his jaw tightening. She had a fever. It wasn't severe, but it was enough to make his heart ache with worry.

What on earth had she done to get to this point?

Blaze exhaled sharply through his nose before reaching for her wrist, his fingers gently pressing against her pulse. The rhythm was steady but faint, weaker than it should have been.

His heart ached at the sight of her like this.

Savannah—so vibrant, so fiercely independent—now lay there motionless, looking utterly helpless. He hated this. He really hated it.

He reached up, running his fingers through her wavy hair, tucking a few loose strands behind her ear. His touch was light, almost tentative, as if he feared waking her but couldn't bear to pull away.

With a sharp inhale, he withdrew his hand and stood up, pulling his phone from his pocket.

In one swift motion, he dialed a number, pressing the phone to his ear.

The line rang once.

Twice.

As soon as the call connected, his voice came out sharp and commanding.

"To my office. Now."

There was no explanation. No room for debate.

And without waiting for a reply, he hung up.

His gaze immediately returned to Savannah.

She hadn't stirred.

Her pale skin and fragile breathing gnawed at him in a way he couldn't quite understand.

Blaze was a man who rarely let emotions dictate his actions. He prided himself on control, on keeping his distance from unnecessary attachments. But right now...

Right now, as he watched her in this venerable state, something inside him twisted with a painful intensity.

And for the first time in ages, he felt something he couldn't quite place.

Something that felt dangerously close to fear.

An hour later...

A soft, rhythmic ticking filled the quiet room, the clock's sound mingling with the gentle rustle of the city breeze that slipped through the slightly ajar window.

Savannah stirred.

Her body felt oddly light, as if she had been floating in a weightless void for hours. A deep, dreamless sleep had wrapped around her completely, a kind of rest she hadn't known in ages. But now, her mind began to awaken, pulling her back to reality.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes, her vision a bit blurry at first.

A white ceiling loomed above her, its sleek, modern design blending effortlessly with the room's sophisticated decor. It took her a moment to grasp where she was, but as soon as she attempted to lift her head, a dull ache throbbed at her temple, causing her to wince.

Her fingers instinctively moved to her forehead, pressing gently as she let out a slow breath.

And then—memories rushed back to her.

The lobby. The receptionist. The dizzy feeling that had washed over her.

The voice.

The warmth.

Her heart skipped a beat as she turned her head abruptly.

Blaze.

He was right there.

Sitting right next to her on the couch, he leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees. But what really caught her off guard was the way he was looking at her.

His eyes—dark, piercing, and intense—were fixed on her face, as if he had been watching her the whole time she was asleep. There was something in those eyes, something deeper than mere concern. It was warmth. Relief. Something that felt dangerously close to tenderness.

Her lips parted a bit, her voice raspy as she finally managed to speak.

"Wha-what happened?"

Blaze didn't break his gaze.

Instead, a small, knowing smile crept onto his lips as his hand reached out, fingers gently running through her wavy hair, tucking a few loose strands behind her ear. The touch was so soft, so intimate, it made her breath catch in her throat.

"You were quite exhausted, honey." he murmured, his voice softer than she had ever heard it.

Savannah blinked as ahe stared at him, confusion swirling in her eyes.

"I—" she began, but before she could finish, Blaze's expression changed. Something raw flickered in his gaze, something that made her heart tighten in her chest.

"I'm sorry, Ana," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Savannah's breath hitched.

The way he said it, so quietly and earnestly—it was almost painful to hear.

Blaze took her hands, cradling them gently in his own, his touch warm and steady. His thumb traced slow, soothing circles on the back of her palm, his grip just firm enough to reassure her he was there.

"I'm really sorry for not taking better care of you," he continued, his eyes locked onto hers, filled with a tenderness she wasn't sure she had ever witnessed before.

Savannah could only stare at him for a moment, her mind racing to process his words.

Look after her?

Was he really blaming himself for all of this? Savannah thought.

"No, Blaze," she whispered, shaking her head gently, her fingers tightening around his. "You're not to blame. Please stop saying that."

A soft, affectionate smile danced on her lips as she gazed at him—the man who, despite everything, still radiated the purest soul she had ever encountered.

Blaze exhaled sharply, his face flickering with emotion. Without saying another word, he leaned in and placed a light, lingering kiss on her forehead.

"I'm sorry," he murmured against her skin once more.

Savannah let out a soft whine, scrunching her nose in protest.

"Stop saying that."

Blaze chuckled at her reaction, the sound deep and rich, filling the space around them.

The tension in the air lightened just slightly.

"Alright, okay." he conceded, leaning back slightly as he studied her. "But first, let's get you something to eat."

Savannah's brows knitted together in confusion until she followed his gaze to the wall.

The large, antique clock hung gracefully in the office, its golden hands indicating the time—3:00 PM.

Her eyes widened in realization.

She had been asleep for over an hour.

She had missed the time.

As if reading her thoughts, Blaze smirked slightly and gestured toward the sleek glass table beside them.

"Our lunch awaits us" he said smoothly, pointing to the neatly arranged meal boxes on the table.

Savannah's gaze flickered from the food back to him.

A warm feeling spread through her chest as she noticed the playful twinkle in his eyes, a mischievous yet tender glint that sent an involuntary shiver down her spine.

Before she could even think to react, Blaze was already on the move.

With one swift motion, he scooped her up into his arms, effortlessly lifting her in a bridal carry once again.

"Blaze-!" Savannah gasped, her hands instinctively gripping his shoulders.

His smirk grew wider.

"Can't have you wandering around all weak like this, can I?" he said.

Savannah looked at him looking a little confused like she couldn't believe he said that, but she didn't argue, because she knew he was right.

She could feel his warmth, his strength, and for some reason, at that moment, she didn't want to let go.

Blaze carried her toward the table, ready to enjoy a meal and a simple, quiet moment together.

But what neither of them realized...

Was that this moment marked the start of something much, much deeper.

Something neither of them could stop.

Something neither of them truly wanted to.
