Chapter 156 - Chapter 154 - Strong Connection.

Baldwin's Mansion

Later that night, Savannah stepped out onto the balcony, letting the cool evening wind brush against her face. Down below, the garden was lit up with soft golden lights, giving everything this magical, almost fairy-tale-like feel. The hedges and paths looked like something out of a storybook. Blaze's guys were scattered everywhere, their shadows moving as they made sure the whole place was secure.

Her phone buzzed in her hand. She unlocked it and saw a message from Blaze:

"I miss you, Ana."

Her heart gave a little flutter as she started typing her reply.

"I miss you more." She hit send.

A second later, another message popped up.

"Is it so?"

She smiled to herself and typed back.

"Yes!"

As soon as she sent it, a deep, familiar voice resonated from behind her, smooth and rich like molten honey.

"Then come closer and give me a big, tight hug. Ana"

Savannah's breath hitched. That voice—she'd know it anywhere. Excitement and relief flooded through her as she spun around swiftly, her grin getting even bigger when she saw him.

"Blaze," she breathed, her eyes sparkling.

He was right there in front of her, smiling, with his arms wide open—like an invitation she couldn't refuse. No hesitation. She stepped right into his arms, feeling his warmth all around her. As soon as his arms closed around her, she let out the breath she hadn't even known she was holding.

Blaze hugged her tight, not too hard but not light either, like he'd been waiting forever for this moment just as much as she had. A whole week apart felt like forever, and now that she was in his arms, the empty space inside him finally felt full again.

Savannah closed her eyes and let herself melt into his hug. For a few days now, something had been bothering her, this weird feeling she just couldn't shake off. But right then, wrapped up in his warmth, it all seemed to fade away.

"You have no idea how much I missed this," Blaze said softly, his lips close to her ear. His voice sounded like he really wanted her.

She smiled and leaned her head on his chest, hearing his heart beat steadily.

"I think I do," she replied quietly.

The night felt calm but full of life as they stayed close under the moonlight and the twinkling garden lights.

Next Morning

The next morning, sunlight poured through the big windows of the fancy house, lighting up the room where Savannah woke upt. The smell of fresh coffee filled the air, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Blaze. He was already dressed in his crisp black suit, standing by the mirror as he adjusted his tie. His sharp features were focused, yet the moment he noticed her watching him, a soft smile tugged at his lips.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," he said softly, leaning down to give her a quick kiss on the forehead.

Savannah grinned and stretched under the blankets. "Morning. You off early?"

"Yes, meetings all day," he replied with a sigh. "But I'll try to squeeze them in somehow. I've got you."

She sat up and ran her fingers through her messy hair. "I've got a busy day too. A couple of surgeries lined up."

Blaze held her face in his hands, his thumb brushing her cheek. "Be careful, okay?"

"Always am," she said with a teasing tone.

After one last kiss and some more chatting, they headed out of the mansion, going their separate ways—him to his big office building and her to the busy hospital where she had work waiting for her.

At the Hospital

Savannah strolled through the hospital hallways, the smell of disinfectant hanging in the air. Doctors and nurses bustled around, tending to patients. It was chaos as always—rounds, checkups, piles of paperwork. But when lunchtime came around, Savannah finally had a chance to relax.

She spotted Bella in the break room, already sitting there with a coffee in hand, looking super excited.

"Finally, some time to breath," Savannah said, flopping down next to her.

Bella laughed and took a sip of her coffee. "Tell me about it."

"So, what's going on?" Savannah asked, stirring her tea.

Bella grinned like she had a secret. "I actually have a date tonight."

Savannah raised an eyebrow. "Really? Who's the guy?"

"He's name is Jake. A friend set us up," Bella said, rolling her eyes but grinning. "Blind dates aren't exactly my style, but hey, why not, right?"

Savannah smiled big. "That's awesome! You totally deserve to have some fun."

Bella sighed dramatically. "Let's hope he's not a total bore. Or worse one of those guys who only talk about themselves."

Savannah chuckled. "If he ends up being impossible, text me and I'll send a fake SOS. I'll pretend it's a work emergency and call you back."

"Best friend goals right there," Bella said, tapping her coffee cup against Savannah's tea mug.

Just then, a nurse popped her head into the break room. "Dr. Savannah, you're needed in the OR. There's this really urgent heart surgery—on an older lady. She just got brought in."

Savannah straightened up right away, her attention all serious. "Got it."

Bella stood too, finishing her coffee. "Guess break is over."

The two hurried toward the operating room, their casual conversation replaced by the gravity of their responsibilities.

The Surgery

Inside the bright, sterile operating room, Savannah got ready, her mind already racing through all the details of the surgery ahead. The patient, an elderly woman in her late sixties, had been rushed in with serious heart problems, and this operation needed to be done just right.

As soon as she walked in, the overhead lights lit up the whole room. The machines were beeping steadily, and everyone was in position, waiting for her to take charge.

"Let's get started," she said, her voice steady but firm.

As the first incision was made, time seemed to fade. Each second was critical, each movement precise. The surgery stretched longer than expected, complications arising that required swift decisions.

Beads of sweat formed on Savannah's brow, but she remained composed. Every movement was controlled, her years of experience guiding her hands. The room was filled with hushed voices, the rhythmic beeping of machines, and the occasional instructions exchanged between the team.

Time ticked by, and the longer Savannah worked, and the tougher it got. This wasn't just any surgery—it was a life hanging in the balance.

After what felt like forever, Savannah finally relaxed and moved away. The hardest part was done. The patient's heartbeat was steady, and her numbers were looking good. Savannah felt a wave of relief when she looked at Bella and saw her give a thumbs-up.

"Nice work, Dr. Savannah," one of the nurses said.

Savannah let out a breath, took off her gloves. "Keep a close eye on her. I want updates every hour."

As she left the OR, exhaustion settled over her, but so did a sense of accomplishment. She had done what she was trained to do-save a life.

Now, as she glanced at her phone, there was a message from Blaze.

"I hope your day's going well. I miss you already."

A small smile touched her lips as she started typing back.

"Long day, but it was worth it. I miss you too."

As she hit send, she thought to herself—no matter how busy or tough things got, some connections just stayed strong. And having Blaze in her life made her feel like she always had something good to look forward to.
