"I-is that so?" Luke's face had somewhat cleared of the confusion he had.
Brandon nodded. "Yes, of course. That is what it means, two people get to know each other over a planned day and event. Why would you think otherwise?"
You really wanted to know why. What gave the pathway to this kind of thinking? It wasn't until the mid 18th century? Or maybe slightly later than that, but Brandon could think of what was happening in modern day America.
Luke shrugged a little before he took a sip of his beer. "Because that is how it happened back in the community. In the town, your parents selected someone in the church for you, and if you would like each other enough, you got married in whatever timeline your parents could get you to marry."
Brandon made a mental note to remind himself of asking Megan if she lived in some kind of cult that was being called church. Because that sounded like it was a little bit of a culture ruled by people's own motives and greed.
