The forest was a house of towering trees and confusing shrubs, their long and twisted branches reaching out like bone fingers, blocking as much of the sun's light as possible. Dense vegetation formed a thick canopy above, with only faint beams of sunlight filtering through, giving the shrubs as little exposure as possible.
But even with that, waist-high grass swayed with the blowing wind, brushing against Erik's legs as he moved through it, a familiar snake wound around his wrist. The air was thick, humid, and carried the faint scent of damp earth and moss.
