It seems they just need a little water not to die, enduring the low temperatures.
"In the summer we stay in the square, and in the winter there's snow there," Bubble said.
They stretched their arms and legs on the mattress together, but it was too narrow to fit two children.
"There used to be rats and Old Ratman here, so scary. But this year they've all left," Bubble looked towards the corner under the bridge where a manhole cover led to deeper places.
"The Ratman in the sewers," Xu Cheng remembered when she walked in the sewers before.
"Once I earned 200 and put it in a small box under the mattress. When I came back, it got stolen by Old Ratman. Since then, I've hidden my money on me," Bubble said.
"It stinks here," Xu Cheng gave the air a kick.
"The place by the river doesn't stink, but it's too cold there," Bubble wrapped herself tightly in her messy coat.
"Where did you get your clothes?"
"Stolen from a donation box for old clothes."
