Chapter 12 - Negative-Energy Wielder

As the Kingdom's forces suffered continuous defeats, pressure mounted on the high command. Intelligence reports indicated that the Alliance's deployment of troops and firepower at the front wasn't significantly greater than the Kingdom's.

Why the repeated defeats?

This baffled the Kingdom's leadership.

Amidst this string of defeats, the front lines and intelligence agencies finally delivered good news—they had determined the cause of the defeats.

Fred, responsible for front-line intelligence, had been under immense pressure from the high command.

At the meeting.

Fred presented the latest intelligence, showing the battle reports to the assembled council members and the chairman, his expression grave.

"Chairman, esteemed members, this is the latest intelligence from the front. While unbelievable, I've verified it multiple times; it's true."

The council members looked incredulous.

"Invincible soldiers?"

"Are you joking?"

"That's impossible!"

The chairman remained silent for a moment, not questioning Fred but urging him to continue. "Fred, what else have you discovered?"

"Yes, sir!"

Fred's expression was serious. "This isn't a joke. We've interviewed several survivors; their accounts are consistent—they faced invincible enemies, leading to the rapid collapse of our forces. The Alliance doesn't have many of these invincible soldiers."

"How many?"

"Currently confirmed: ten."

"Their identities remain unconfirmed."

"Alliance intelligence operatives are working to confirm them."

The entire meeting centered on the Alliance's invincible soldiers. This was arguably the most crucial issue for the Kingdom's survival; if the Alliance possessed more of these soldiers, the Kingdom would be hard-pressed to resist.

Maintaining information secrecy was vital. If the Kingdom's soldiers knew they faced invincible enemies, morale would be utterly crushed.

Finally,

The council reached a unanimous conclusion. The chairman declared, "This problem must be solved. I want to know the origin of these invincible soldiers and how they appeared. Capture one at any cost! We must either acquire this technology or find a way to counter it!"

...

Mei's protection and secrecy levels were already extremely high, and after the Negative-Energy field strategic plan yielded tangible results, the Alliance showed unprecedented attention and support.

Ordinary intelligence operatives would have difficulty finding traces, but exceptional individuals might not. For example, some Void Wanderers. The appearance of the invincible soldiers had piqued their interest.

Outside the Alliance's scientific institute, Charles and Starry, dressed in suits, casually chatted on the street, occasionally glancing towards the institute.

Charles said, "After he presented his research, he was placed under strict protection by the Alliance. He's in this institute. If those invincible soldiers are the result of his research, then the research data must be here."

Starry pulled his hat down, trying to obscure his blue hair. Charles noticed the gesture and changed the subject.

"You really should dye that hair black. It's too noticeable. You're a spy, for crying out loud; shaving it would be better."

They had met in this mission world and quickly discovered each other's identities, foregoing any pretense.

They were both Void Wanderers.

Mei had published research related to the Negative-Energy field; according to their investigation, the invincible soldiers were likely the result of her research.

The reason for accepting this espionage mission was simple: they suspected the invincible soldiers were the "something else" brought by the Negative-Energy field mentioned in Phase Two of the Main Mission.

Moreover,

They didn't know Mei was also a Void Wanderer.

Starry ignored Charles's chatter; he was the reserved type, the opposite of Charles, whom he considered a goofball.

"Let's report our findings to the Kingdom first. We need to determine if there are any invincible soldiers in the institute, assess their combat strength, and avoid rash actions."

"Agreed."

While eager to complete Phase Two of the Main Mission, their lives were paramount; they wouldn't act recklessly before understanding the invincible soldiers' combat capabilities.

Unlike Flashy, who had the fortune of Legion support and instantly gained a significant power boost by merging with Viagra, Charles and Starry were mid-tier Void Wanderers. Their Tier 1 combat abilities were above average but still limited.

After gathering intelligence, the Kingdom's intelligence agency identified the source of the invincible soldiers and established Mei's identity.

Fred reported at the meeting, "Ms. Mei. Her full name is unknown. She published groundbreaking research on the disease, introducing the concept of the Negative-Energy field. She then disappeared. Our operatives have confirmed she's currently at the Alliance's scientific institute; the invincible soldiers are the result of her research."

Some council members recalled her research, which had caused a sensation; her theory had sparked research into the Negative-Energy field in various countries.

"Limitless energy?"

"Invincible soldiers are the result of her Negative-Energy field research?"

"Yes."

Fred confirmed, "Our intelligence indicates that the invincible soldiers are the result of Ms. Mei's research into the Negative-Energy field."

"…"

The council members were stunned by the intelligence agency's findings. In just a year, such groundbreaking results had been achieved. What if she continued her research?

"Can we contact her?"

Naturally, the Kingdom wanted to acquire such a valuable asset.

"It's practically impossible. The Alliance's surveillance and protection are extremely tight."

"We absolutely cannot allow her to continue her research!"

"The appearance of the invincible soldiers has already caused us significant problems. If she develops anything else, the Kingdom will face even greater danger!"

Such talent, if unobtainable, must be eliminated!

The chairman issued the order, "At all costs, launch an attack on the Alliance's scientific institute. Eliminate her! And we must acquire her research on the Negative-Energy field, especially the technology behind the invincible soldiers!"

"Yes, sir!"

This was a matter of the Kingdom's survival; it wasn't a question of whether it could be done but that it must be done, regardless of the cost.

...

Alliance Scientific Institute.

Beep—Beep—

A heartbeat monitor diligently tracked the experimental subject's condition. A researcher recorded data, occasionally glancing at Mei with reverence and admiration.

Mei had single-handedly opened a new field of research; her findings were monumental, exceeding the era's expectations.

Her position in the Alliance's research institute was paramount; the Alliance couldn't show her enough appreciation. For her safety, the institute's security had been significantly enhanced.

Unknown to others, Mei knew the so-called invincible soldiers weren't truly immortal; they simply possessed superior defense and self-healing capabilities.

With Super Active Cells, they were essentially humanoid Star Beasts. Those successfully modified gained enhanced energy sensitivity, allowing them to extract negative energy.

These individuals already possessed powerful physiques and now could manipulate negative energy; their combat abilities far surpassed ordinary humans.

These experimental subjects had an official designation: Mei called them "Negative-Energy Wielders."

The plan was proceeding smoothly. The creation of the Negative-Energy Wielders had triggered the war between the Kingdom and the Alliance. The next step was disseminating the creation technology.

In fact,

If the Kingdom's and other nations' spies were truly stumped, Mei would even proactively leak her intelligence; it wouldn't be a problem.

In the Negative-Energy Wielder modification process, the Super Active Cells were crucial. She glanced at the dozens of vials of replicated active cells; there was more than enough.

Even if dozens of national spies attacked, there would be enough for each.

At that moment,

Mei glanced at the laboratory door.

"Here they come."

Boom!

The instant she spoke, the laboratory door exploded inward, the immense blast instantly alerting the entire institute's security forces.

"Protect Ms. Mei!"

Bang bang bang!

Intense gunfire filled the night.

The spies who had breached the laboratory were instantly cut down by Mei's guards before they could reach her. Then, a figure danced with a crackling arc of lightning, a blade flashing.

Blood sprayed.

Starry, wielding his longsword, swiftly dispatched the guards. His gaze swept the laboratory, locking onto Mei.

Mei, to conceal her identity, had always used light to alter her appearance. Starry, though having met her in Hyperdimensional Space, didn't recognize her.

Starry didn't recognize Mei, but based on intelligence from the institute's spies, he identified her as Ms. Mei.

Just as he was about to forcibly take Mei away, Charles appeared behind Starry, his body covered in cuts which swiftly closed, though he was still in considerable pain.

"Oof! That was unexpected! Take care of this!"

Charles quickly recovered, approaching Mei. Starry spun, deflecting a blow—a blonde girl.

The girl wielded a longsword, her eyes calm and composed—Lia. At her insistent request, Mei had made her a Negative-Energy Wielder.

Her combat ability was decent, roughly equivalent to a mid-tier Tier 1 Void Wanderer.

"Sister, you go first."

"Right."

The instant they clashed, Lia knew she was outmatched, but her self-healing abilities would buy her time—enough for her uncle to escape.

Mei wasn't worried about Lia's safety; she could ensure her own survival. She calmly turned and walked towards the emergency exit.

"Wait!"

Charles tried to stop Mei but was sent flying by a white sphere of energy, feeling like he'd been hit by a train.

Bang!

"Ooh!"

Charles lay sprawled for a long time before painfully getting up, dazed. "What the hell…?"

Throughout the fight, Mei largely ignored the intruders, calmly proceeding to the emergency exit, treating them with disdain.

The other researchers followed closely behind.

Charles regained his senses.

Mei was gone.

Boom!

An invisible strike sliced through the air above Charles, severing several strands of his hair and carving a deep gash into the laboratory wall.

A wound appeared on Lia's face, quickly healing. She glanced towards the emergency exit and retreated, choosing not to engage further.

Charles shook his head, still reeling. "Don't chase. Let's find the Negative-Energy field research data, especially anything related to the invincible soldiers. We might complete Phase Two quickly."

"Give me a moment. I'll hold off the intruders."

Starry, brandishing his sword, went outside.

When the night fell silent, Lieutenant General Kelvin arrived at the laboratory, finding it in chaos. Not only was much of the research data and materials missing, but Mei herself had vanished.

Kelvin's immediate assumption was that Mei had been captured. He ordered, "Complete lockdown! No one is allowed in or out! Conduct a thorough search! We must find Ms. Mei!"

"Yes, sir!"

Mei was too important to the Alliance; her research was vital to their future. If she fell into the hands of another nation, the consequences would be dire.

Considering the worst-case scenario, Kelvin knew he might have to kill Mei himself—a measure he wanted to avoid.

Kelvin recalled the figure wielding the sword; its ferocious combat ability rivaled or even surpassed that of the invincible soldiers, causing him to frown.

This world was far more complex than he'd imagined.

More spies from neighboring nations than he expected had infiltrated the area; several were Void Wanderers, likely aiming to complete their Main Missions or obtain greater power from the Negative-Energy field.

Those Void Wanderers and spies who arrived late couldn't gain anything from the institute and instead targeted Mei.

However,

Despite the efforts of these individuals and the Alliance's forces, Mei had vanished without a trace.

Lieutenant General Kelvin's spirits sank; Mei had completely disappeared, most likely captured by spies.

The Alliance's high command was furious.

Similarly,

The Kingdom was also disappointed, believing Mei was still secretly working for the Alliance. Fortunately, their spies hadn't returned empty-handed.

To withstand the Alliance's powerful offensive, the Kingdom had invested considerable resources at the front lines. Since the Alliance's invincible soldiers were limited, the front could still hold.

After receiving the experimental data and materials from their spies, the Kingdom's intelligence agency immediately forwarded them to the scientific institute.

Countless scientists delved into the Negative-Energy field and the invincible soldiers' research, racing against the Kingdom's survival.

Soon,

In the Kingdom's scientific institute's laboratory, after repeated failures, they finally succeeded in creating their first invincible soldier.

Looking at the sleeping soldier in the experimental chamber, the Kingdom's researchers were awestruck. "This is a miracle! Ms. Mei is truly a genius!"

They had only obtained a fraction of the experimental data and active cells; Mei was the pioneer of this field and research.

Honorary Chairman Eddie was ecstatic. He'd staked his entire fortune on this experiment; its success meant his gamble had paid off.

"So, this is an invincible soldier?"

"Technically, they're called Negative-Energy Wielders. That's what Ms. Mei called them in her documents. They aren't truly immortal."

"Whatever they're called, how powerful are they?"

Eddie excitedly asked.

"Um…"

The researcher pondered for a moment, finding the question difficult to answer. "Ordinary firearms can wound them, but not penetrate their bodies. Their physical strength and self-healing abilities are extraordinary. Furthermore, Negative-Energy Wielders can manipulate negative energy; their strength is directly related to their depth of penetration into the Negative-Energy field."

"Penetration? How deep?"

Eddie, an outsider, didn't understand.

The researcher explained, "Simply put, deeper penetration into the Negative-Energy field allows for a single, more potent release of negative energy, resulting in greater power. However, penetrating the Negative-Energy field is extremely difficult. Fortunately, Ms. Mei formulated the Depth Equation; like solving a mathematical problem, we can continuously penetrate the field, enabling our Negative-Energy Wielders to unleash greater power."

Eddie, barely comprehending, was exhilarated by the successful creation of the Negative-Energy Wielders and couldn't help but praise Mei for this technology.

"That Mei is a goddamn genius!"

The dissemination of the Negative-Energy field research and Negative-Energy Wielder technology directly fueled the arms race; a chaotic escalation began.

This was precisely what Mei had intended.

Only Charles, Starry, and a few other Void Wanderers were disappointed. They had uncovered the origin and truth behind the Negative-Energy Wielders, even encountering them.

However,

This wasn't what Phase Two of the Main Mission sought. Beyond the disease, the secrets of the Negative-Energy field ran deeper than they'd imagined.

After acquiring the Negative-Energy Wielder technology, the Kingdom quickly deployed them to the front lines, which became incredibly dangerous.

There wasn't much time for training; the Kingdom relied on sheer numbers, deploying dozens of Negative-Energy Wielders at once.

Meanwhile, both the Alliance and the Kingdom understood the Depth Equation's importance and gathered numerous mathematicians to solve it.

As a result, the war spurred unprecedented progress in solving the Depth Equation, and the Negative-Energy Wielders' strength rapidly increased.

The impact of 10% penetration wasn't immediately apparent, but at 20%, their combat power exploded.

They surpassed even mid-tier Tier 1 Void Wanderers, easily withstanding artillery fire. More importantly, they could now unleash negative energy as an attack—a far more powerful ability.

Negative energy could annihilate all matter; any physical defense was meaningless against it—this was their greatest strength.

Initially, the Alliance and Kingdom's Negative-Energy Wielders clashed directly on the front lines; later, the conflict escalated into infiltration, assassination, and other complex scenarios.

Faced with the escalating conflict, other nations trembled. Even the United States, another major power, was terrified because they lacked Negative-Energy Wielders.

Although there were instances of Negative-Energy Wielders being killed by artillery fire, their individual combat power was undeniably terrifying.

...

807 AD.

The Kingdom had solved the Depth Equation to 20%. Their Negative-Energy Wielders exhibited immense combat effectiveness.

Mei, using star energy, constantly monitored the planet; the Kingdom and Alliance's progress on the Depth Equation, however secretive, was entirely within her grasp.

Utilizing their findings, Mei's perception finally reached 20% penetration of the Negative-Energy field, completing the second Upgrade Task.

[Upgrade Task 2・Complete]

[Super Burst Level Up]

[Super Burst・LV3⬆]

——

[Ability: Super Burst]

[Level: LV3]

[Description: Focuses all power into a single, instantaneous attack with twenty times the normal power.]

——

Super Burst's power had increased from tenfold to twentyfold. Mei anticipated a fortyfold increase in the next upgrade; perhaps even higher?

The Depth Equation's solution would likely take years; this slow pace ensured discretion. The Spacetime Crystal couldn't be used here; Mei felt a serious lack of security.

The destruction of the galaxy in the Star Beast world was still fresh in her mind, reminding her to be cautious.

She realized that this planet's intellect alone wouldn't suffice to solve the Depth Equation completely. When the time was right, she would use this planet's human population to spread the equation to other civilizations.

In short,

Mei would avoid drawing too much attention.

Boom!

A massive explosion shook a nearby town; attacks from the Kingdom on the Alliance border were common.

"Ooh."

Shiro turned towards the explosion, sensing the energy fluctuations. Mei smiled, "The truth is revealed."

The negative energy fluctuations were unmistakable, but the source wasn't a Negative-Energy Wielder or a Void Wanderer.

Mei suspected this negative energy user was the key to Phase Two of the Main Mission.

...

Smoke billowed outside the town; a burly man's arm had completely pierced the chest of a young Negative-Energy Wielder. Negative energy surged from the man's arm, and he collapsed. The young Wielder remained unharmed.

The young man cracked his neck.

"So, this is a Negative-Energy Wielder's body? Feels pretty good!"

The young man withdrew his arm from his chest, ignoring the fallen man's fate. The wound healed visibly, quickly disappearing entirely.

He stretched, a thrilled smile spreading across his face. "Incredible! Humans can create such powerful bodies!"

He looked down at the man, crushing his skull with a kick. "At least my effort wasn't wasted. This body's usefulness ends here."

In truth,

The young man's name was Illusion; his true form was pure negative energy, born within the Negative-Energy field—a strange energy lifeform.

Limited by the nature of negative energy, he couldn't directly manifest in the real world. Directly appearing would cause mutual annihilation with the world's matter—suicide.

Therefore, he needed to possess a human body to exist freely; since his true form was energy, contact with another allowed Illusion to easily usurp their bodies.

Previously, Illusion could only possess bodies afflicted with the disease, but now he had far superior vessels—the more powerful Negative-Energy Wielders.

Suddenly sensing footsteps behind him, Illusion turned to see a figure standing there.

Mei observed Illusion with curiosity, then glanced at the corpse on the ground, asking, "Care to introduce yourself?"

From her perspective, the young man contained a strange form of negative energy, almost a living entity, which intrigued her.

"You'll die!"

Illusion smirked. In his perception, the humans on this planet were weak and posed no threat.

Boom!

His powerful physique created a small crater on the ground. Illusion tore through the air, attacking Mei with ferocious intent, aiming to rip her in two.

At 20% Negative-Energy field penetration, Illusion, controlling the Negative-Energy Wielder's body, was significantly stronger.

However,

Although born from the Negative-Energy field, Illusion, like humans, lacked deep understanding of his own world. He could better control negative energy but still needed to learn from humans how to further penetrate the field.

Realizing Mei had noticed his peculiarity, Illusion's first reaction was to kill her; he attacked without hesitation.

Bang!

The ferocious blow was stopped by an invisible barrier. Illusion unleashed negative energy, intending to annihilate Mei's shield.

But,

It had no effect.

"What?!"

His expression was shocked; then, Mei's gaze sent him flying dozens of meters; his arm was reduced to mist by the force.

Illusion realized this person was far stronger than him, his expression flashing with panic and fear. "Who… who are you…?"

Hum—

Mei didn't intend to play games. The light within a dozen meters instantly ceased movement; it was merely star energy, completely under her control.

Light speed is the cosmic limit; no matter can exceed it. When light speed is zero, all matter within that range is completely stationary; even human thought ceases.

Mei couldn't use spacetime energy to freeze spacetime here, but she could use light speed to freeze it within her control.

Of course,

This technique was effective against those unable to manipulate star energy, making it convenient for dealing with novices. Illusion, now within the frozen zone, was completely still.

Without unnecessary movement, Mei extracted Illusion's true form—a mass of negative energy—from the young man's body; it swirled in her hand.

"Killing you would be easier than crushing an ant. I have little patience for you."

"Please… please, I'll tell you anything! Just don't kill me!"

Illusion trembled.

Mei was the strongest being Illusion had encountered in the real world. This power terrified him; he could only submit.

This demonstrated his lack of fortitude.

Illusion fully revealed his origin. He had been observing the real world from within the Negative-Energy field.

He had only just entered the real world when Mei detected him. Mei's presence was due to sensing Illusion's unique negative energy.

Illusion's encounter with Mei wasn't bad luck; it was an inevitable outcome. Understanding Illusion's origin and identity completed Phase Two of the Main Mission.

[Main Mission・Phase Two・Complete]

[Points Acquired: 2000]

[Main Mission・Phase Three: The existence of negative energy lifeforms poses a significant threat, but possessing human bodies is far from their greatest threat. Determine their greatest threat to this world.]

[Mission Reward: 3000 points]

Void Wanderers aren't saviors; their mission isn't to save the world but to uncover the truth behind a world's destruction or decline.

Even witnessing that outcome.

Even knowing the immense threat posed by negative energy lifeforms and the Negative-Energy field, they weren't obligated to eliminate the threat.

They?

Up to this point, Mei had only detected Illusion's presence in the real world, but the mission indicated that there were more negative energy lifeforms.

They were likely all observing the real world from within the Negative-Energy field.

She asked Illusion, "How many negative energy lifeforms are in the Negative-Energy field?"

"I don't know."

"Never encountered any?"

"No."

Terrified by the questioning, Illusion frantically replied, "But if they appear in the real world, I can sense their energy fluctuations!"

Mei was silent for a moment. Just as Illusion was panicking, she casually returned Illusion to the Negative-Energy Wielder's body and unfroze spacetime.

"Go."

"Huh?"

Illusion was stunned, then scrambled away, the lingering terror of near-death deeply etched in his soul.

A blonde girl with short hair approached—Lia. She'd cut her long hair for easier combat.

"Sister, aren't you going to kill him?"

"No need."

Mei explained, "This war between the Alliance and the Kingdom is a bit too boring. The addition of negative energy lifeforms will make things far more interesting."

Illusion was currently the only negative energy lifeform in this world; keeping him alive was more valuable than killing him. She wanted to see how he would threaten this world.

Besides,

Illusion didn't know who she was; he only knew Mei was an unbelievably powerful mysterious figure—meaningless to Mei.

Moreover,

Illusion was incredibly lucky. If he weren't the only negative energy lifeform, Mei would have likely eliminated him on the spot.

"Huff… huff…"

Heavy breathing echoed through the wasteland.

Still terrified, Illusion fled, having encountered such a powerful opponent upon entering the real world.

He decided to seek refuge in the United States; there were no Negative-Energy Wielders there, and he could live comfortably. His near-death experience had made him appreciate survival.

He had initially believed his innate control over negative energy and the Negative-Energy Wielder's power would make him invincible.

He hadn't expected such a brutal encounter; the experience was deeply traumatic. Illusion, already lacking courage, was now even more timid.

He hoped never to encounter Mei again; the psychological trauma from this encounter was unimaginable. Surviving was a miracle!

Thinking this, Illusion laughed hysterically.

"Ha ha ha ha!"

The war between the Alliance and the Kingdom had become incredibly intense; casualties among Negative-Energy Wielders had already occurred. Illusion's escape, possessing a Negative-Energy Wielder's body, didn't attract much attention.

Based on the recovered body, the Alliance assumed their Negative-Energy Wielder had fought and been killed by a Kingdom Wielder.

In this situation, this was insignificant; the front lines were increasingly intense, with daily casualties among the Negative-Energy Wielders; the high command had no time to investigate.

808 AD.

The conflict between the Alliance and the Kingdom reached an unprecedented peak. Hundreds of Negative-Energy Wielders clashed at the front lines, resulting in over 100,000 casualties among regular soldiers.

That year, a mathematician suffering from the disease volunteered for the Negative-Energy Wielder modification experiment. On the front lines, using the Kingdom's mathematical institute's findings, he single-handedly solved the Depth Equation to 30%—but he told no one.

This was his life insurance.

At 20% depth, Negative-Energy Wielders could withstand artillery fire; at 30%, they could withstand naval bombardment.

The instantaneous negative energy output determined the amount of matter a Negative-Energy Wielder could annihilate; higher output meant greater annihilation capacity. In a sense, this mathematician was now a walking battleship.

This individual possessed exceptional computational ability, calculating directly in his mind. While Mei couldn't read human thoughts, she sensed this Negative-Energy Wielder's energy output had reached 30%.

Therefore,

She had to intervene personally.

Late at night.

In a small town on the Kingdom's front lines, a tall man walked down the street, drinking from a bottle of alcohol—his tenth.

"Ugh."

Curt was frustrated, tossing the bottle away. Since becoming a Negative-Energy Wielder, his enhanced physiology meant he couldn't get drunk.

Half his life's pleasures were gone.

A cold wind blew.

The drowsy Curt suddenly awoke. Before he could react, he was thrown several meters by an invisible force, smashing through buildings along the way.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

In a flash, a deep black light streaked across the rubble; a violent beam of negative energy hurtled towards Mei, only to be deflected mid-flight by an invisible force, vanishing harmlessly into the sky.

Crackle!

Curt emerged from the rubble; the commotion instantly stirred the town. Ignoring his injuries, his eyes fixed on Mei like a wolf's.

Trying to politely ask for the Depth Equation's solution would be ineffective; a direct attack was far more efficient, especially when the opponent didn't know her strength.

Politeness invites contempt.

"This may be impolite, but I'll be blunt. Either give me your Depth Equation's solution, or you die here."

Curt was startled but tried to deceive her.

"Where'd you hear that? I—"

Bang!

Numerous battles had honed Curt's combat skills. He would initially use words to disarm his opponent, then launch a surprise attack.

His body flashed, appearing before Mei. With 30% penetration of the Negative-Energy field, his body, brimming with negative energy, seemed to have activated the Star Beast genes within his cells; his hands formed claw-like shapes.

Bang!

A dull thud.

A dazed Curt flew backward, the intense pain jolting him; it was real; he'd been hit again.

However,

"What just happened?"

He hadn't reacted before scrambling to his feet.

Mei extended her hand; a brilliant light flashed in the darkness, rapidly coalescing into a bright point of light in her hand. She flicked her wrist, launching it at Curt.

Whoosh!

A whistling sound grazed his ear; reacting just in time, Curt dodged, a grin spreading across his face.

"Heh heh, missed."

As Curt laughed, a small point of light, like a firefly, zipped into the mountains behind the town. Then, with a deafening boom, the resulting shockwave swept across the area, sending Curt flying along with the approaching Negative-Energy Wielders.

When Curt got up, the mountain behind the town had vanished in the darkness, leaving him terrified.

Then,

Mei had remained motionless, surrounded by countless points of light. Curt raised his hands, surrendering instantly.

"I surrender!"

"I surrender! You want the Depth Equation's solution? It's nothing. Here you go!"
