Chapter 146 - The cracks we don't see

Nathanael's pov:

There doesn't seem to be much activity at the precinct, which is expected. It is eleven o'clock before midnight, after all. 

Going through the main entrance, I am greeted by the officer in charge at the reception desk.

"Good evening, how may I help you?" she puts down the pen she had in her hand.

"Evening, I was hoping to see Detective Reed," I take my wallet out of my pocket to present my ID, just in case, "He might be busy, but he'll agree to meet me when you tell him who I am. This is very important," 

"I am sorry, but detective Reed has already left the precinct, sir," she pauses, "But we can still help you. You'll just need to tell me what the problem is," she smiles.

"Oh, I-" 

My sentence is interrupted by a familiar voice. Not that I had anything important to say in the first place since I was simply about to excuse myself.
