Chapter 20 - Ocean

[Hospital Room – Present Moment]

Vrinda takes a shaky breath, her voice still strained but growing stronger with each word. The weight of everything she's carried, finally spilling out.

Vrinda (turning to Agastya):

"Agastya… do you remember that major accident you had… the one with Ahalya?"

Agastya freezes. Sid glances at him, confused.

Agastya (quietly):

"Yeah… how could I forget? We were lucky to survive."

Vrinda locks eyes with him — her gaze sharp, serious.

Vrinda:

"It wasn't luck. And it wasn't an accident."

Agastya's expression hardens.

Vrinda (voice trembling):

"They tried to kill you… because of that night."

Agastya (shocked):

"What night?"

Vrinda:

"The night you saved that little girl — the one who was with me.

You stepped in, Agastya. You fought them. You broke their plan.

And they never forget."

The room falls silent.

Vrinda (barely above a whisper):

"They've been watching… stalking all of us who stood in their way. Me. Chaya. You. Even Sid."

Sid grips the chair, his mind spinning.

Sid:

"But… why? What do they want?"

Vrinda:

"I don't know yet. But nothing is coincidence anymore.

Every scar… every loss…

They're not done. They're just getting started."

Agastya looks away, pain flashing across his face.

Agastya:

"That means… Ahalya—"

Vrinda:

"She was in danger too. And she didn't even know."

Thunder rumbles faintly outside. The storm has begun.

Vrinda:

"We need to find Chaya before they do.

We need to find the truth before it buries all of us."

[Mira's Cove Café – Early Morning]

The sky outside is dull, overcast. Waves crash faintly in the distance. Sid steps into Mira's Cove Café, the bell above the door jingling softly — a sound he once hoped would bring her back.

It doesn't.

The café is quiet. The same soft music plays in the background. But for Sid, everything feels heavier now.

He walks to the counter, heart racing with every step.

Sid (to the barista):

"Has the owner… the girl… has she been here again?"

Barista (pauses, then shakes her head):

"No… not after that day. She left in a hurry. But she did ask about you before she left."

Sid's eyes widen.

Sid:

"She… asked about me?"

Barista:

"Didn't mention your name. Just described you — said, 'the guy who sits in the corner, always looking out the window.'

Then she smiled a little… and left."

Sid lowers his head, overwhelmed by the ache in his chest.

He walks to that corner table, his corner — the one where he used to sit with his notebook and dreams. He sits. The smell of coffee lingers. He pulls something from his jacket pocket.

The shell bracelet.

Worn… but still intact.

He places it on the table gently, like it's sacred.

Sid (softly):

"You're still out there, Chaya.

I know you didn't forget…

And I swear, I won't stop till I find you."

Sid sits there for a while, fingers gently tracing the shell bracelet.

His eyes wander to the bookshelf by the café wall — a cozy little corner where people often left old books, sometimes with notes or pressed flowers inside.

Drawn by instinct, he stands and walks to the shelf. He runs his fingers across worn-out spines, not knowing what he's looking for. Just… hoping.

One book catches his eye.

"The Ocean Between Us."

A romance novel — the same one Chaya once teased him about for crying at the ending.

He pulls it out gently, flipping through the pages.

And then—

Something flutters out.

A torn piece of paper. Faded, but familiar.

He opens it.

"Somewhere, where the waves still remember us…

I'll be watching the stars.

Maybe you'll find me when the tide is right."

— C.

Sid's breath catches.

His fingers tremble as he rereads the note.

Sid (whispering):

"Chaya… you were here.

You left this… for me?"

He folds the note carefully, placing it with the bracelet in his pocket. A quiet smile forms — small, but real.

Sid (determined):

"I'm getting closer."

[Sid's Apartment, Late Night]

Sid sits at his desk, the shell bracelet and torn note beside him. His mind races. That line—

"Somewhere, where the waves still remember us…

I'll be watching the stars."

His fingers drum the table. Then suddenly — it clicks.

A memory.

Their first coastal trip.

A small hidden beach town called "Sagarika Point."

Remote. Quiet. A place they once promised to return to "when the world becomes too much."

[Flashback: Sagarika Point – Years Ago]

Chaya, twirling on the sand barefoot, laughing as the tide kissed her feet.

Sid chasing her with seafoam in his hands.

At night, both lying on a blanket under a sea of stars.

She whispered, "If ever we lose each other… just come here. The ocean will remember."

[Back to Present – Sid stands abruptly]

Sid (to himself):

"Sagarika Point. You're there… aren't you?"

[Next Day – Travel Begins]

He packs quickly, throws his bag over his shoulder, and books a cab straight to the coastal town.

Train rides, bus changes, a long walk through dusty paths — and finally…

He arrives.

The sound of waves. The salty wind. The familiarity.

She's near. He feels it.

[Sagarika Point – A Narrow Lane near the Beach]

Sid walks slowly through the quiet beachside town, his eyes scanning every face, every corner. The ocean hums in the background like a heartbeat he once knew.

Children run past him, laughing. One little boy brushes against him and drops a seashell. Sid bends to pick it up and notices—

A doodle on the boy's hand.

A tiny whale under a starry sky, drawn in blue ink —

the exact style Chaya used to draw.

Sid's breath catches.

Sid (gently):

"Hey… this drawing on your hand… who made it?"

Little Boy (smiling wide):

"One akka who works in that beachside café! She draws for all of us when she's free. She's really nice."

He points to a quaint little café down the road — white walls, wind chimes, and an open view of the sea.

Sid's heart pounds.

He nods slowly, eyes fixed on that café, voice barely above a whisper:

"Chaya…"
