She stared at the man for a long moment.
"Caoimhe...?"
The princess? Well. It made some sense why Caoimhe might have some royal correspondence. Was she checking over Elymus' messages? Filling in for him?
And-
"Why did you take papers from the princess?"
His brow quirked. "Is there some other way you investigate suspects in Nevremia?"
She squinted at him. "Are you calling Caoimhe a suspect?"
"Did your prince Caleb not also implicitly suspect her by going to you and not her?"
Implicitly.
Well.
He certainly did but...
She wanted to protest.
She didn't have evidence but.
"Caoimhe has nothing to do with these murders, she wouldn't-"
He shrugged. "Perhaps. Perhaps not. But there's something deeper going on in this castle. You know this as well, don't you, little empress?"
He scanned her gaze to be certain of his conclusion. "Else you would be a truly terrible spy, beyond anything I could imagine."
She glared up at him.
It was hard to stay scared when he was just...
So.
