Chapter Five
Just like always, a lamp would always be lit in the direction of the bedroom.
But after tonight, would it still be?
Ryan Gregory's brow furrowed, his face etched with somberness.
He stepped in, and a servant came forward to say, "Mr. Gregory, Miss Hamilton has already returned."
"Mhm, I know," he replied.
He knew she had come to question him.
Or perhaps, to see how he would position himself...
Ryan Gregory gritted his teeth and took the stairs.
Reaching the door, he hesitated to push it open.
She was inside, but he lacked the courage to see her.
To ask her to leave again was very cruel
But it seemed much kinder than to let her bear the news of his impending death...
Ryan Gregory knitted his brows tighter. Just as he hesitated, the door opened from the inside.
His hand hovered in the air.
They locked eyes—hers slightly surprised, and his profoundly complex.
