Chapter 1
"I might not live much longer."
He suddenly said seriously, his dark pupils unwavering as they watched her, observing the reaction on her face.
Sofia Hamilton was stunned for a moment, it took her a full few minutes to regain her composure, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"What a joke to make out of the blue."
Not live much longer?
Wasn't he perfectly fine?
Sofia's heart experienced a moment of panic, but she thought he was joking with her.
Yet, his expression was so serious.
So serious it made her feel a bit unsettled...
Sofia's heartstrings were taut, so taut that they would snap with just a little more strain.
Looking into his serious and unsmiling face, the helplessness and sadness flickering in the depths of those dark eyes, Sofia couldn't quite bring herself to smile.
In that instant, it was as if a pair of invisible hands were tightly gripping her heart.
She bit her lip, wanting to say something, but couldn't find the words.
