Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

Klaus sat up on the narrow, metal-framed bed, his eyes fixed fearlessly on the two individuals standing before him. His gaze drifted from them to Rose, whose frail body seemed to radiate an aura of pain and trauma. The sight sent shivers down his spine, and he couldn't help but admire her resilience in the face of unimaginable suffering. "If you transfuse too much of my blood into her, it could strain her heart," he warned, his voice steady.

The male assistant's eyes narrowed, curiosity etched on his face. "How did you know that?" he asked, intrigued by Klaus's sudden display of medical insight. After all, Klaus had been held captive for four months, subjected to brutal experiments.

Klaus's expression remained calm. "It's simple. You've been extracting my blood, testing it on soldiers and prisoners, trying to create superhumans. But most of them didn't survive. I recall the screams, the convulsions...the deaths." His eyes locked onto Dr. Maru, who seemed to be piecing together the fragments of his words though she had her own speculations, his words seem to prove some of them.

Seeking clarification, Dr. Maru asked, "Have you been in contact with any...unconventional practitioners?" Her tone was laced with skepticism, and she watched Klaus's reaction closely. "Any witches, perhaps?" The question hung in the air, and Klaus's response would determine the course of their action.

"Ah, a witch, yes...technically raised by one who's blind. One I'm sure you're familiar with," Klaus replied, his voice calm and measured. The hint of a smile played on his lips, suggesting he knew more than he was letting on.

Klaus's mind wandered back to the memories that haunted him – the feeling of being cut, the searing pain, and the slow healing process. He recalled the sensation of his skin being torn apart, the agony that lingered even after his wounds had closed. The familiarity of it all nagged at him, like a whispered secret he couldn't quite grasp.

Dr. Maru's eyes locked onto Klaus, her interest piqued. "The one who's blind...a dark one ?" Her voice was laced with a mix of annoyance and wariness.

Klaus's expression remained enigmatic, but his eyes seemed to hold a hint of confirmation. The air was thick with tension as Dr. Maru's gaze held his, searching for answers to questions she hadn't yet asked.

Dr. Maru's eyes gleamed with an unsettling intensity as she stood in the dimly lit, velvet-draped chamber, the flickering candles casting eerie shadows on the walls. The air was heavy with the scent of old books and decay. She knew that the person who had raised Klaus was her own mother, a revelation that sent shivers down her spine. The person she least expected to have an indirect connection with.

"How laughable," she scoffed, her voice barely above a whisper, as she mumbled inaudibly, her hands extended in Klaus's direction. Her fingers wove intricate patterns in the air, and Klaus felt an unseen force restraining him. He grunted, his eyes widening in discomfort as he tried to move, but his limbs seemed rooted to the bed.

"Cast a binding spell around his bed," Dr. Maru instructed her partner, another hooded figure who stood in the shadows also emerged forward, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. The figure nodded, their hands moving in a swift, precise motion, as they whispered ancient words that seemed to weave a spell of restraint around Klaus.

The atmosphere in the room grew thicker, the shadows deepening, as if the very darkness itself was alive and watching. Klaus's eyes darted wildly around the room, his breath coming in short gasps, as he realized he was trapped in a web of magic and mystery, with Dr. Maru as his captor.

As the binding spell took hold, Klaus's struggles ceased, and Dr. Maru approached the bedside of the unconscious Rose, lying pale and still on a nearby gurney. A medical device beeped softly, monitoring her vital signs.

Dr. Maru's eyes locked onto Rose's fragile form, and she nodded to her partner, who expertly inserted a needle into Klaus's arm, connecting it to a transfusion tube that led to Rose's. The device hummed to life, pumping Klaus's blood into Rose's veins.

"Let the essence of the vessel nourish the flower," Dr. Maru whispered, her voice dripping with an unsettling reverence. As the transfusion progressed, Rose's cheeks began to flush with a faint, roseate glow, and her chest rose and fell with a gentle, rhythmic breath.

Klaus's eyes widened in horror as he realized the true nature of Dr. Maru's plan. "No...what are you doing?" he growled, his voice low and menacing, but the binding spell held him fast, unable to move or intervene.

Dr. Maru's gaze never left Rose's face, her expression a mask of serene intensity. "The blood of the strong will revive the weak," she murmured, as if reciting an ancient incantation. The candles flickered, casting eerie shadows on the walls, as if the very darkness itself was feeding off the macabre scene unfolding before it.

As the transfusion continued, Klaus's eyes rolled back, and his body began to reveal runes. Dr. Maru's partner stepped back, eyes wide with alarm, as Klaus's voice changed, deepening into a low, raspy growl.

"Maru, you fool," the new voice boomed, Klaus's lips curling into a sneer. "You think you're a master of the arcane, but you're nothing but a hypocrite."

Dr. Maru's eyes snapped towards Klaus, her expression shocked. "Who...how are you here?" she demanded, her voice trembling.

The voice laughed, a sound that sent shivers down Dr. Maru's spine. "You don't recognize me, little one, it's been almost a century and you seem to have forgotten my voice. Trying to defile the one who has been chosen as a vessel. And you, dear Dr. Maru, are trying to bring doom upon yourself, you are a Hippocratic oath gone wrong – 'first, do no harm' indeed."

Mama Mia words dripped with rage, and Dr. Maru's face paled as she realized the true extent of Klaus's possession. The candles flickered wildly, casting eerie shadows on the walls, as if the darkness itself was feeding off the malevolent energy in the room.

"You think you're saving Rose, but you're merely just performing a clown show" Mama Mia taunted, Klaus's body twisting in ways that seemed impossible for a human. "Your hubris will be your downfall, Maru."

Dr. Maru's eyes flashed with anger, but she stood frozen, unsure how to react to the powerful entity now controlling Klaus's body.

The whole facility felt a little cold overshadow them during this period. Many superhuman soldiers felt a little weak no different from being tranquilized, even most of the prisoners felt the same feeling while the ones who were witches felt fear, some even died of inability to bare the eerie energy overflowing.
