Morning!
Lucas felt a heaviness in his chest, slowly opening his eyes and immediately sensing warm breath on his neck, as though someone was breathing on it.
His black eyes lowered and moved, and he saw that Amelia's head was resting on his shoulder, her long silver-white hair spread out, exposing the tips of her ears, which were adorned with soft feathers like those of a young bird, swaying with the warm air he exhaled.
"Ahh~~" Lucas lazily yawned, noticing that the girl had her whole body sprawled on him, like an octopus with eight legs. Her hands clung to his shirt on his chest, and her legs straddled his abdomen.
Lucas felt helpless. He clearly hadn't slept like this last night. How had Amelia ended up on top of him, mumbling in her sleep, "Big sister, big sister... you've come back..." with such dreams.
"What time is it?" Lucas reached over to the nightstand to grab his watch, glancing at it to see that it was 5:39 a.m. It was no wonder he had woken up so early with someone lying on his chest.
Putting down the watch, Lucas looked at Amelia's side profile. The sleeping girl had a faint smile at the corner of her mouth, occasionally mumbling in her sleep. She was calm and peaceful, completely different from the coldness of yesterday.
Maybe sleep is the only time a person can let go of all their worries. When you're upset, heartbroken, just take a nap, and after waking up, you'll have the energy to keep being sad.
"Mm~~" Amelia let out a soft grunt through her nose, smacking her lips as she nuzzled her cheek, sleeping soundly, her expression playful and cute.
"..." Lucas silently smiled. Looking at the girl's sleeping posture, he felt a bit sleepy too. He slowly closed his eyes and fell back into a light sleep.
Time passed slowly, and by 7 a.m., Amelia's eyelashes fluttered, her ears twitched, and she gradually opened her eyes, letting out a long yawn.
"Ahh~~"
It took her a moment to fully wake up. This had to be one of the most comfortable sleeps she'd ever had, just like when she was at her home in the Stone Forest, held in the arms of her big sister…
"Eh?" Amelia stiffened, and it suddenly dawned on her. She glanced with her green eyes and saw a chin, a small stubble, then two nostrils, and finally a pair of black eyes…
"..." Amelia and Lucas locked eyes, both staring blankly at each other, blinking in surprise, then continuing to gaze at one another in confusion.
"Good morning!" Lucas grinned, sensing something unusual in his embrace, which had finally roused him. When he opened his eyes, he saw Amelia's curious gaze.
"..." Amelia quietly stared at him. She then shifted her gaze, before once again resting her head on Lucas's chest.
The warmth of the embrace and the blanket made her feel a bit nostalgic, or perhaps a little sentimental. Back at home in the Stone Forest, she would fall asleep like this, curled up against her big sister.
"..." Lucas let out a bitter smile. This girl was back to her usual self again. Could a typical girl really feel so safe lying in the arms of a man she just met? He was sure she'd be yelling to cut ties if it were anyone else.
"How about going to school today?" Lucas asked softly, his voice carrying a lazy tone.
"..." Amelia's ears twitched slightly, but she didn't answer. What was school? Did it have anything to do with her big sister? If not, she would refuse to answer.
"Did your sister teach you how to read?" Lucas also remembered what the cat-eared girl had told him yesterday. A girl would likely be more engaged when it came to her sister's teachings.
"Reading, I know over five hundred characters." Amelia answered.
As expected, Lucas's lips curled upward. The girl was surprisingly easy to understand. He then asked, "Well then, how about you go read? Your sister would probably like it if you learned more characters."
"Mm!" Amelia hesitated for a moment, then lightly nodded.
Lucas let out a sigh of relief. For a closed-off girl like Amelia, she really needed to interact with more people. That was the only way to open up her mindset. Otherwise, if it went on, she might become completely withdrawn.
"Can a person really fly without wings?" Amelia suddenly looked up, staring intently into Lucas's black eyes.
"Huh?" Lucas was momentarily stunned, then quickly reacted, nodding slightly with a light smile. "Of course, there are many ways to do it."
"What ways?" Amelia supported herself with both hands on Lucas's chest, pushing herself up, getting so close that her cheek nearly touched his face.
"Uh..." Lucas found himself staring into her green eyes, the faint scent in the air, and the warmth of her breath brushing against his lips.
"Don't get so excited," Lucas exhaled gently, speaking softly, "In a few days, when I have what I need, I'll take you up to the sky."
"Really?" Amelia moved even closer, her nose nearly touching his. This was a move she learned from her big sister: the closer she got, the more pressure she could exert. She often won this way.
"Mm!" Lucas let out a sound from his nose. Who exactly taught this girl such a tactic?
Satisfied with the answer, Amelia finally moved her head away and snuggled back into the blanket, resting once again on Lucas's chest.
"..." Lucas was stunned. Why was she lying down again? Isn't the usual action to get up? Does she think he's a bed?
He could feel the girl's strong desire to return to the sky. Can a birdkin beastman still be considered one without wings? If she had to trim the feathers off her ears every day, she would be no different from a human.
"Your wings should grow back as long as you eat more good food." Lucas said softly.
"Really?"
Amelia immediately climbed back up, her face once again close to Lucas's. She looked even more excited.
"Probably!" Lucas helplessly nodded. He wouldn't know until he tried, but he could tell that the girl's body was too weak. It was clear she was malnourished—how could she have enough nutrients to grow wings?
"The price!" Amelia said coldly.
"The price?" Lucas raised an eyebrow and whispered, "When your wings grow back, you need to work for me for three years."
"Okay!" Amelia immediately nodded.
"Then, it's time to get up." Lucas suddenly stood up, startling the girl. She immediately threw herself around his neck, her lips pressing against his face.
One second, one minute, three minutes…
Lucas raised an eyebrow, wondering how long she planned to kiss him. If this continued, there would definitely be a mark.
"Ahem..." Lucas lightly coughed, which snapped Amelia out of her daze. She quickly pulled away.
"…" He saw Amelia, her face flushed, run out of the room.
"Hah? She's still shy, huh? Just like a cute child. I wonder if mine and Mina's would be cute like her." Lucas chuckled and wiped the drool off his cheek.
