Chapter 2 - Hidden Talent

I turned around and saw a boy with brown curly hair huffing and puffing away, like he actually thought I was in the wrong.

"Of course I would've helped them if I could, but their death still has nothing to do with me whatsoever. If anything, why didn't you branch out a helping hand? There's only one of me and so many walkers, I can only be in one place at once."

"You have a weapon and I don't. What am I supposed to do against those things!!! You have to help us, whether you like it or not, you are the only one with a weapon!!"

Annoyed by his condescending tone and voice, I looked around and found some things that could be used as weapons.

"There are things within the closet that can be used as weapons, such as scissors, yardsticks, etc., I'm not reliable for your safety, at this moment everyone is thinking of away to survive themselves and that goes for me as well. I don't have the time or strength to babysit a child right now."

He was heated and was thinking of ways to refute my words, but Ms. Puerto grabbed his shoulder and shook her head. Ms. Puerto walked to the cabinet and grabbed a pair of scissors, then nodded at me.

Seeing the substitute grab a pair of scissors, the rest of the students made their way to the cabinet before grabbing some items that could be used to defend themselves. I took this time to look at the students that have fallen to the walkers hands and sighed, 'As of now, I can only protect myself and try to get home.'

I decided to take this time and check the notifications I've gotten from killing the walkers.

[Leveled Up]

[Level 2 (EXP 0/200)]

[Congratulations, you are the first person to kill a walker.

Would you like to receive your reward?

Y/N]

I thought of the first 'congratulations' notification, and the screen popped back up.

[Congratulations, you are the first person to level up.

Would you like to receive your reward?

Y/N]

I pressed 'Y' on both screens before 2 new status screens materialized in front of my eyes.

[Hidden Talent: Child of Khaos]

[Tier: Unique]

[Description: As the only Child of Khaos, when leveling up you receive 7 more attribute points than a regular being. You are able to comprehend skills/talents at a very fast speed that can almost be described as inhumane. 7 is your lucky number.]

[Hidden Skill: Synthesis]

[Tier: Unique]

[Description: Can fuse skills/talents together to receive an even more powerful ability. The likeness of the skills/talents contributes to the success rate of the synthesizing.]

[P.S. If the synthesis fails, you lose one of the abilities used.]

There were a few thoughts going through my head, good and bad, and then there was a sense of loss. '7 free attribute points, down the drain. Well all that really matters is that I'm alive.'

"Well on that note, 'Status Screen.'."

'I think this will be my best assortment of stats at the moment.' I clicked on the screen a few times before opening back up my Status Screen.

After the attribute points were registered into the system, I felt a new profound feeling of strength flowing through my body. Which only made me mourn over the 7 points I missed out on.

Soon after hearing me call out 'Status Screen' everyone else started to call out their status screens 1 by 1. Seeing the screen that displayed everyone's conditions, they were all amazed by the magic/technology or whatever this thing was.

The class president looked over at me and walked towards me. "Did you receive anything for killing those walkers?"

I looked at the class president and nodded before responding with a half-truth, "I received 5 experience points, which should abbreviate to EXP, for every walker I killed."

"Were you able to level up?"

I nodded my head at the class president, I knew she would be able to find out I leveled up with an easy tally of the dead walkers. I mean, who else killed the walkers but me?

"Could I ask, what do your stats look like, class pres?"

"You can just call me Faye, and I can just show you my status screen."

'Maybe 10 is the average for a grown adult, her average stats round up to about 8, while my stats average at about 15. Which means either her stats are low or mine are just high.'

While I was doing my calculations, she was getting ready to speak, but I interrupted her, "According to my level up, you should gain 5 attribute points for every level up, which you can distribute to any of the non-fixed stats. That's all I know as of right now, though I doubt that's all of it."

I decided to tell the class president the information I knew, as she was pretty good-looking, but like me, her figure was hidden under all of that clothing. For her facial features I'd give her a good 75-ish/100.

She thanked me for the information and headed back over to the substitute with her newly found information. While the two were conversing, Ms. Puerto would look up at me from time to time with a look of inquiry on her face.

I ignored them as I was trying to come up with a temporary solution about the situation at hand. Hearing the screams, for now I decided to increase my strength, as I didn't want to end up like any of the ones screaming right now.

I walked up to Ms. Puerto and the class president, "I'm going out to scout the area and see if there are any stranded walkers. If I'm not back within an hour, try to find a way out on your own."

They both hesitated for a few seconds, but in the end, they both nodded, they knew that the situation wouldn't get any better for the time being, as the military was probably dealing with their own problems. Walking out, I heard a voice behind me.

"Please come back safely..."

...

As I left the classroom, there were a few surrounding walkers, so I decided to take care of them and gain EXP. Quickly moving towards a walker in front of me, I stabbed my spear into its head before kicking its body off and kicking down a walker that was walking near me aimlessly.

[Gained 5 EXP]

[EXP 5/200]

Retracting the spear from the walker's body, I stabbed the walker that was on the floor, killing it instantly.

[Gained 5 EXP]

[EXP 10/200]

The process of me killing walkers went on until there were no more in sight.

[EXP 135/200]

"I'm almost about to level up again, might as well kill off the walkers downstairs."

Saying that I made my way towards the staircase and saw a few wandering walkers. I jumped down onto the unsuspecting walker, crashing it into the ground before stabbing the walkers that were near me with quick precision, resulting in an almost instant death. Looking down at the walker below me, I raised my right foot and stomped on its head, spreading blood and brain matter everywhere.

[EXP 160/200]

'Just 8 more...'

I made my way onto the second floor, which was a little less flooded with walkers than the 3rd floor, but needless to say, there were enough walkers for me to level up.

Without hesitation I started massacring the walkers with little to no skill, as they were all just mindless drones that didn't even know how to dodge or anything. Only one objective was running through their mind, and that was to end the human race.

After a few minutes of massacre, all the walkers in sight were dead, and their bodies were slumped onto the ground motionless. Knowing that I killed more than enough walkers to level up, I called out for my status screen and distributed my attribute points, which would best help me survive and fight right now.

'Status Screen.'

After distributing all of my stats, I felt the same energy flowing through my veins on a slightly higher scale. It almost felt like my spear could split the wall in half, but it was only a feeling knowing that wasn't possible... well, anytime soon at least.

While soaking in my newfound strength, I heard a scream coming from the first floor. I instantly made my way towards the staircase, killing the walkers that were waiting at the intersection. Ignoring the notifications of 'EXP,' I continued on my way down the stairs.

Following the screams, I saw 3 students trying to fend off a dozen walkers while unnoticeably backing themselves into a corner.

'This could be a good chance to test out my strength.'

Making my way towards the trio, I stabbed and sliced wandering walkers that weren't attacking the already cornered trio. Dashing towards the little horde of walkers, I was practically the Grim Reaper the way I was killing off the walkers, my 'makeshift spear' was stabbing and hacking through them with ease.

The surrounding walkers started focusing on me seeing as I was killing their 'brethren', which in turn gave room for the trio to breathe. A walker that was next to me tried lunging at me, sensing its movements, I backed up and roundhouse kicked square in the jaw, which took its head clean off. I was shocked for a second before a smile crept up on my face.

"Let's end this quickly, shall we?"

Dashing towards a walker, I stabbed it in its head before swinging my spear, which appeared like a crescent moon, instantly killing 2 walkers in the process. This went on for about a minute or two before all the walkers were on the ground, lying motionlessly.

Snapping out of their daze, the trio instantly started crying and thanking me for helping them. After a few minutes, they started to calm down and wipe their tears.

"What happened to you guys, and what class are you in?" I asked while looking at the brown-haired boy.

"We're in class 1C, and most of our class started turning into those things. We tried to leave the classroom before they could transform, but some of them were by the door."

The girl with blonde hair then spoke up, "And if what the voice said was true, getting close to them would mean they would attack you, or better yet, kill you."

I looked at them for a few seconds and was going to ask them a few more questions, but I started to hear multiple doors open consecutively from this floor and the above floors.

'Looks like they're finally starting to leave the classrooms. Well, at least I cleaned up the walkers that were grouped up in sight.'

I looked back at the trio, "I don't know what's happening, but you can either try to kill some walkers and level up or try to stay hidden. The choice is yours."

I started to see students exiting the classrooms in a frenzy, and some were covered in blood while some were quiet or heated. Either way, it looks like they killed the walkers in their classrooms, but it looks like not many survived from each classroom, maybe like 10-15 from each homeroom.

Knowing that what was happening was probably permanent, I decided to get an early start and look for supplies. I made my way back up to the 3rd floor into my homeroom class. The class was also getting prepared to leave the classroom, so I grabbed my black bag and left the classroom again.

The gaze of the other students and Ms. Puerto didn't bother me as I left the classroom alone, right now the only thing that was going through my mind was getting back home to my family and making sure they were safe.

The cafeteria had stored and canned food that would last a long time without spoiling. Making my way towards the cafeteria, I saw other people who had the same idea as me and made their way towards the cafeteria as well.

Seeing the group of people heading there, I decided to run and get there first before anything was snatched up by the crowd. When the students and teachers saw me sprinting past them, they were in a daze. There was only one thought going through everyone's head.

'HOW IS HE SO FAST?!?!!'

...

Making it to the cafeteria didn't take long, but there were some wandering walkers, which I easily took care of, gaining more EXP.

[Level: 3 (EXP 325/400)]

'15 more walkers and I should be able to level up again.'

I made my way into the kitchen and filled up my backpack with water bottles and canned tuna, beans, etc. With all the weight in my backpack, I thought it would feel heavy, but it felt like I was holding a 25-pound dumbbell, which wasn't surprising as my strength stat was a little more than 2 times higher than an average adult male's.

'This should be enough.'
