CHAPTER 97: FEAR OF THE KNOWN
Diana and Suzanne continued their conversation as dinner went on. James showed little interest in their chat, practically ignoring the two women. They, in turn, didn't bother with him either. Soon, it was time for Diana to take her medicine. She immediately ran towards Suzanne.
James raised his brows and kept a stern face that no one could refuse. "Diana, get back here." He commanded a bit roughly.
Diana flinched at his tone and looked at Suzanne for support. Suzanne turned to James. "Oh, will you stop it already, James? Are you trying to scare her or something?"
"No, I'm not," James replied innocently. "If only she would just take this medicine. It's just five tabs, for crying out loud."
"Did you say just five tabs?" Diana retorted. "Do you know how hefty taking five tabs is?"
'Well, I didn't ask you to get pregnant,' James thought resentfully.
Suzanne couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing. She turned to Diana. "Diana, honey, why not take a seat first?"
Diana fearfully sat down, tears beginning to pool in her eyes. James got closer and stretched out his hands. "Open your hands," he said in the same stern voice.
Diana eyed him and tearfully opened her hands. Suzanne felt pity for her and smacked James on the arm before rolling her eyes. "Will it kill you to coax her a little?"
"That will not help, Grandma," James responded gruffly.
Diana cried even more at his words. "I just hate you so much," she choked out.
"You don't mean that," James said.
Diana ignored him and brought the medicine to her mouth. As soon as she perceived the smell, she rushed to the kitchen and threw up everything she had just eaten. James sighed and went after her with Suzanne. He kept tapping her back until she calmed down.
When she was done, Diana rinsed her mouth and face while Suzanne held the medicine in a cup for her. She stood up and was about to walk away when James dragged her back by her hand. He looked at Suzanne. "Grandma, please drop the cup and excuse us."
"Alright," Suzanne nodded and left the couple to themselves.
