Chapter 8 - Chapter 7 - Suspended on my first day of school

Ding dong.

The bell chime rang, bouncing off the walls of that small classroom as if to enter our ears from every direction.

"Alright. That's all for now. Good work today, everyone." The teacher stated as he gathered his notes and left the class in a somewhat droopy state.

The door shut with a gentle clap and the students all began to gather into small groups and talk to each other. Only a single individual bothered to approach me: a tall male with bushy hair, red highlights, and large muscles.

The same boy who tripped me, the mortal from my dream, towered above me with a glaring look written across his face.

"Ey."

Staring back, I responded to him with an empty expression and nothing more.

The boy's anger intensified. With a grunt, he grabbed me by the collar and lifted me out of my seat.

"You caused trouble for our sensei. You looking for attention or somethin'!?"

His horrid mannerism was the same as it was in the dream. I let out a sigh, turning away from him to ignore him.

~I definitely see why that 'me' didn't want to deal with this person.

"The only one looking for attention around here is you, Tomachi."

'Tomachi' had raised his fist to me but immediately stopped as one of the girls intervened.

A girl about my height had stepped over and spoke up to the boy she had just called 'Tomachi'. Her figure was nice, I guess in terms of mortal standards, complete with long brown hair and hazel eyes.

"Stay out of this, miss class representative."

~A foul attitude to boot.

"Class representative?" I turned my head towards her, intrigued by the title.

"Hey, you pay attention to me, little runt!" Tomachi growled at me, shaking me a bit to grab my attention.

Letting out another sigh, I began to ponder.

~How should I deal with this?

"Put him down, Tomachi!"

"I told you to shut up! This is between two guys, girls have no business getting involved!"

~Well, I can't use magic… so…

"No, this is between two students, so I do have a right to get involved! As your class representative!"

With one more heavy sigh, I stared down at the two of them.

"Both of you should just…" I muttered with a slight groan, grabbing Tomachi's arm. Planting my feet in his chest, I let my weight carry me to the floor as I flung him over me, into the small locker behind us. "Shut up."

The two did indeed quiet down. Though, once again, I stood to my feet to find the entire class staring at me with fear. Looking back at Tomachi, who was knocked unconscious, I reconsidered the decision I had made.

~I probably overdid it there. I need to keep in mind these are mortals I'm dealing with, not other primordials. These mortals don't seem to have any magic affinity whatsoever, either. So, I'll have to be extra careful from here on out.

"Who is he? Is he a monster? A demon?"

The hushed whispers of the other students reached my ear as I walked away from the scene.

"I'll be going to the library."

"But the next lecture is about to begin!" The class representative shouted at me as she kneeled down next to Tomachi, inspecting his head.

"I'll come back, don't worry."

"Agh- Yuruichi!" She shouted out as I made my exit.

I walked into the library, looking around.

The room wasn't much bigger than the classrooms, and with all the shelves and books it felt rather cramped. Though, it was tranquil and quiet.

"An empty, quiet room with nothing but tomes of knowledge surrounding you. I can see why the book wielder liked this place so much."

Placing my index finger up at the shelf, I scrolled through the titles of each book.

"Huh… It's mostly educational texts and yearbooks." I said, stating the obvious.

I grabbed one of the books with the word 'history' in the title and cracked it open to view its contents, hoping to learn more about this world.

Bzzt. Tap. Tap.

A voice echoed into the room suddenly, making me jump a bit.

"Uhm. Could Yoiyami Yuruichi report to the faculty office?"

I closed the book with one hand, walking out of the library without putting it back on the shelf.

~Faculty office. That's where the teachers stay in between classes, if I recall correctly. If I were to go by the dreams I've been having… It should be over in this direction.

Following the information I gave in my dream, not knowing whether or not they were correct, I found myself at a door with a sign that read 'Faculty Office'.

~The fact the information from my dreams is correct has to mean something, right? Ah… I guess now isn't the time to be thinking about that.

Placing my hand on the door, I slid it open, making sure to do so with a gentle, graceful touch as if a mortal were to grope another's erogenous zones.

~Well… that was a rather odd analogy. Just what did that book wielder read anyways?

My teacher looked at me with a stern look.

"Well, you got here rather quickly."

"Huh?"

~Did he not expect me to come?

"Well, that's good. About what happened…"

"Ah yes. That." I scratched my head as Mia would hers out of instinct alone. Realizing what I was doing, I nervously stopped my arm and locked it behind my waist.

"So mister Tomachi is currently being looked at in the nurse's office. Looks like he had a concussion, so he'll be out of school for a bit. I understand from Mori that he approached you first. Is that correct?"

"Yes."

~Miss Mori? Who's that? Is that the class representative?

The teacher continued. "I also understand that you were fairly calm before and after the er… erm… 'incident'. Am I to assume that's also correct?"

I gave him a nod.

"Well… Although mister Tomachi can be a bit troublesome at times, he is not a bad kid. So I hope you two can get along. If you could… I'd like you two to apologize to each other when you both return to school."

"Uh… sure thing. That shouldn't be an issue."

~Wait… 'both'?

"That's good to hear. Though, you are still going to be suspended for a week for what happened."

"Ah."

I said aloud, as I realized what he meant when he said 'when you both return'.

Having fully understood this, I gave him a nod of affirmation.

"Alright. For now, at least finish your first day without any more trouble. Could you do that for me?"

"Sure." I said, putting on a smile.

"Alright. Back to class. I'll be there for your next lecture soon once I handle the paperwork about this."

With one last nod, I took my leave from the faculty office and walked down the hall in thought, still holding the history book from the library in my hand.

~Suspension on the first day of school. What's suspension? …Though… I get the feeling Mia's going to be upset with me.
