River's expression flickered with something unreadable before amusement returned. "Is it that obvious?"
Seraphina nodded. "You are not yourself tonight."
A moment of silence stretched between them before he finally exhaled and leaned back slightly, looking up at the fading sky.
For a moment, she felt like he wouldn't be answering her, and would keep things to himself. But then-
"The court is pressuring me," he admitted. "They want me to choose a queen."
The moment her ears registered his words, she felt her heart clenching, but she said nothing, and simply listened.
