Allen revved the throttle gently, guiding his sleek black motorcycle through the calm streets, Vivian pressed warmly against his back, her arms wrapped snugly around his waist. It was a familiar feeling—the comforting of her embrace. But, something felt different. Off. Like an itch at the back of his mind he couldn't quite scratch.

But no matter how familiar and comforting all of that felt, Allen's mind kept drifting elsewhere. He'd spent the past hour replaying that lunch conversation with Mila over and over. He'd thought he was just being polite—friendly, even—but now, with some distance, he couldn't shake the feeling that he might've said too much.
