As the gang made their way north Vars began replaying everything that happened today. He killed his parents, gained multiple magical abilities, and became a bear monster all in one day.
'The day is nowhere near being over yet. I've got to get way stronger than this and I can start by gaining experience. Maybe I can...'
At that moment Vars had an idea. If his talent [Combat Sense] could help him remember others' techniques and whatnot then he should be able to recall the memories at any time.
With some focus, he was able to trigger a flashback and went back to the memory of his fight with Mother. When he threw that hook that knocked her into that tree. He wanted to do more damage and subconsciously used his CE to cover his fist.
'So that's what happened. That's amazing information to have and I can already see multiple ways CE can be applied. [Combat Sense] is incredible!'
While Vars was lost in his thoughts Wormwood picked up a scent that seemed to be heading their way.
"Father, something is approaching from the right. From the scent it seems to be around the same level as us if not a bit below," Wormwood called out.
The group quickly became cautious. Vars decided this was the perfect time to apply what he just learned. He focused on the Cosmic Energy at his core and let it flow towards his eyes.
A cool wave-like sensation washed over his eyes like a veil. His eyesight became like that of a hawk. He could see clearer, further, and even slight trails of CE.
This new vision of his was utterly breathtaking. He could see colors more vividly, even colors he didn't have a name for and it became as if his eyes had a variable zoom scope built.
Quickly dismissing the awe of this new experience he began to scan the area Wormwood said the threat was coming from. With the ability to see slight CE trails, it didn't take long to spot the foe.
He could see two trails of Cosmic Energy that led him to his prey. One of them was an orangish red coming from a rabbit and the other was a greyish blue coming from a hawk.
"I see them, it's a hawk hunting a rabbit. They're about 100 yards away. I'm going to try to kill two birds with one stone or rather a bird and a bunny. Sit and be ready to clean up in case I miss." Vars told the others as he dug his roots into the ground.
Vars wasn't sure how far he could stretch his roots but he soon found out that it was 45 yards. This was a decent distance but not close enough.
He could see that the bunny was very nimble as it darted between the trees but so was the hawk. Although the trees in the Dark Wood Forest covered most if not all of the sky, they at thin trees with an average size is at least 17 yards, and most of the branches grow near the canopy giving the birds of the forest room to maneuver.
As it got closer to the bunny Vars could see it begin to coat its talons in a clear-like substance and he knew he didn't have much time.
Vars quickly retracted his roots and combined them into a spear 5 feet long and 4 inches thick. By this time the bunny was only 70 yards away and the hawk was beginning to dive.
In the blink of an eye, Vars directed CE towards his arm while maintaining his enhanced eyesight and launched the spear towards his mark.
{You have collected the essence of a Lv. 4 Flame-Tailed Rabbit. You have gained +2 dexterity.}
{Dexterity: 19 -> 21}
{You have collected the essence of a Lv. 6 Grim Glass Hawk. You have gained +3 dexterity and +1 strength.}
{Dexterity: 21 -> 24 Strength: 20 -> 21 (23)}
{You have gained 1 level and 3 stat points. Lv. 6 -> Lv. 7}
"Let's go! Told you I'd get the 2 for 1! Let's hurry and go check the spoils before something snatches it." Vars said to the others as he rushed toward his next snack.
Vars made his way towards his prey and he marveled at the changes Cosmic Energy is bringing about in the world.
The Flame-Tailed Rabbit was about 4 feet in length with short, brown fur that was darker at the tips with faint smolders coming from it. Its tail was completely brown and its eyes were a bright orange-red.
'Hm, its coat and tail must've been coated in flames. What a simple but pretty creature.'
Meanwhile, the Grim Glass Hawk was also a beautiful creature in its own right. It had a sharp, curved beak with light blue feathers underneath its body and grey on top. It was 4 feet tall with a 6-foot wingspan.
'This hawk is gorgeous! The colors of its feathers compliment each other so well and it seems to sort of mimic the sky. With its beak and talons being grey also, this coloration and its name seem to hint at its element being glass. Interesting.'
As Vars finished admiring the creatures he hoisted them onto his back impaling both on 2 pikes he made on his back. This way it's easier to carry and the blood nourishes his armor.
Thankfully his prey dropped 1 talent each. One of them was silver but, the other was gold!
The silver token had a bullseye with a dagger in the middle engraved on it while the gold one had what Vars could understand were a bunch of health signs, like in the old games he played while on the run.
{Talent: Precision
The user has 25% armor penetration on attacks.}
{Talent: Hyper Regeneration
The user's regenerative abilities are increased by 100%}
'Wow! These are both great talents to have. The description does make me wonder...'
"Chronicle, how is my health, and Cosmic Energy recovery calculated? Also, is there a way to have my CE displayed?"
{Seeing as this Seed is below the first threshold your stats are calculated in multiples of 10. For instance, your max health would be 230 while you would regenerate 2.3 points of health per minute. Meanwhile, your max CE would be 260, and the regen would be 2.6 points. This is without the effects granted from talents
These values increase as the Seed breaks through their bottlenecks. If the Seed wishes for a small indicator for these values it shall be done.}
As the Chronicle was finished giving its explanation 2 small lines of numbers popped into the of his vision. It was 2 fractions with one being red and the other being purple. His HP and CE values were perfectly set in the bottom right of his vision where he could notice it and it wouldn't block his vision.
'Great! I'll take both of these but I definitely need some offensive talents soon. I'll also need to start hunting for some beasts with talent that will either willingly fall in line or become great tools for our survival.'
"Thank you, Chronicle. Guys, let's cook these up real quick and then go hunt a little more. I think we need a bigger pack before establishing ourselves here."
