Chapter 26 - The Cost of Progress

Wu Chen stared at the words, his mind racing.

No wonder the powerful figures in the Azure Flame Kingdom had been so desperate to obtain it.

The scroll hinted at something monumental, something that could grant unimaginable power or knowledge.

He couldn't blame them for wanting it—who wouldn't desire greatness?.

But he also knew the dangers of possessing such a relic.

If word got out that he had it, he would be inundated with trouble, and his life would become a never-ending battle.

He couldn't help but wonder if the people of the Azure Flame Kingdom even knew the true nature of the scroll.

Perhaps they believed it was merely an ancient artifact containing hidden fortunes or secrets.

With no certainty in knowledge of its connection to the Trinity Palace.

Only Wu Chen, having had direct contact with the palace, sensed a deeper link, though even he wasn't entirely certain.

The mention of "the others" in the scroll's message intrigued him.

Were they also relics, objects, or items? How many were there, and where could they be found?.

The implications were staggering, and Wu Chen realized the gravity of the situation.

This wasn't just a simple treasure hunt—it was a quest that could change the course of his life, and perhaps even the world.

"This is serious," Wu Chen murmured, rubbing his glabella as he pondered the path ahead.

The scroll had opened a door to something far greater than he had anticipated, and he knew he had to tread carefully.

After a moment, Wu Chen sighed.

"Forget about the scroll for now. The question is, how am I to improve, to get stronger and better, until I get to the bottom of all this?"

After settling down, Wu Chen had gathered information from various sources, including his butler.

Now that he had arrived in a higher-tier kingdom, he was no longer as invincible as he had been in the unranked Azure Kingdom.

This was a Tier 3 Kingdom, far superior and stronger than the Azure Kingdom.

The variety of occupations present alone highlighted the difference in status and strength between the two realms.

In this world, various professions existed, including a mysterious organization known as the Supremes.

There were Alchemists, professionals who forged pills and various elixirs.

There were Smiths who crafted weapons, armors, and artifacts.

There were Artists, widely known celebrities whose paintings and drawings could calm the mind.

And were even rumored to create images capable of fighting, those of course are the masters who have reached the peak of the occupation.

There were Array Masters capable of creating different types of arrays linked to the environment, each serving various purposes.

There was an undeniable room for growth and improvement, and Wu Chen needed it now more than ever.

Simply possessing the mysterious scroll was enough to doom him if he wasn't strong enough to protect it.

As the saying goes, only the strong can bear the weight of great treasures.

If he wanted to survive and uncover the secrets of the scroll, he had to grow stronger.

But strength alone wasn't the only path to power. Authority and influence were also crucial—both of which were ultimately built on a foundation of strength. The question was, how could he increase his strength effectively?

He had already noticed a stark difference in the demonic cores he absorbed.

The ones he had purchased in the markets of the Azure Kingdom contained far less spiritual energy.

Compared to the ones found in the special demonic creatures he had encountered during the Trial.

The existence of those creatures still puzzled him—were they a unique creation of the Trial itself, or were they simply an extremely rare breed?

Regardless of their origin, one thing was certain: the low effectiveness of ordinary demonic cores.

Combined with the difficulty of acquiring them, would make his cultivation progress excruciatingly slow.

Even normal demonic creatures were rare within kingdom territories. If they appeared, they were immediately hunted down and exterminated.

The only way to find them in any significant numbers was to venture deep into the wild, but that was a dangerous and uncertain endeavor.

If he wanted to make meaningful progress, he needed a steady supply of demonic cores. And the easiest way to obtain them? Buy them.

But that led to another problem—wealth.

Between renting a mansion and other expenses, the gold he had brought from the Azure Kingdom was already running low.

If he kept spending without earning, there was only one inevitable outcome—bankruptcy.

So the real question was: How was he going to earn money?

From the information he had gathered about the kingdom, there were two primary ways to build wealth.

The first was through trade and business, a proven path to fortune—but one that required years of effort to establish.

Time that he simply did not have.

The second was far more difficult but also more rewarding.

Not only did it bring wealth, but it also granted prestige and authority. This was the path of occupations.

Occupations in this world were no joke. They were the solutions to problems that had no easy answer.

Even in his vague, fragmented memories of another life, he recalled that the wealthiest individuals were those who solved problems, mostly known as Entrepreneurs.

Whether those memories were real or just a child's imagination, he wasn't sure.

Perhaps they had a deeper connection to the mysterious Trinity Palace. But that was a question for another time.

Right now, he needed to focus on the here and now.

Occupations were the surest way to wealth and influence. But they were also the most difficult paths to walk, requiring years of dedication and effort.

For others, perhaps.

But was it really the same for him?

With the existence of the system, things might just be different.
