Chapter 5 - Chapter 05

[General Pov]

The mother of Bruce, who is sitting at the breakfast table in her mansion, watches her son Bruce with seriousness. She knows he is a brave and fearless young man, always in search of dangerous adventures, but this worries her deeply.

"Son, we need to talk," says the mother in a serious tone.

Bruce looks at her, a little suspicious, but soon realizes that she is serious.

"What's up, Mom?" he asks apprehensively. Soon she takes sides and speaks.

"Your life is very valuable to me, and I can't let you go out there taking unnecessary risks," the mother continues. "You need to act with more safety and responsibility. You could have been attacked by some wild animal, and being in the middle of the night, it would be impossible for you to ask for help."

Listening to his mother's complaints, Bruce remains silent for a moment, reflecting on his mother's words. He knows she's right, but he also knows that he needs to always train and be ready for anything in this world of Twilight.

Finally, after thinking for a while, he looks at his mother and says, "You're right, Mom. I'll act with more safety and responsibility from now on."

Today, unlike the days that followed, his response contained the truth, and his mother noticed the same. She smiled at her son, relieved that she had been able to make him see the importance of acting responsibly. She knows that Bruce still has many adventures ahead of him, but she hopes that he now knows how to protect himself and avoid unnecessary risks. And so they continued their conversation, and Edward joined in too.

He kept talking about how he wanted to go to Europe and defend the innocent in the war. And with that, they kept talking and eating until they were satisfied...

Later that same day, at the entrance gate of the mansion, a last-generation Ford T car could be seen, a car that cost a fortune.

Inside the car were three people as white as snow with red eyes. These people represented the most dangerous thing on the planet; they were vampires. But not just any vampires, they were members of the Volturi clan, the most powerful and dangerous coven in the world. The three men were low-ranking members of the coven, and their job was to monitor potential new members.

The house they were watching was a den of talents. Aro had directly tasked them with watching over the two children in that house. Both were extremely talented, one with their musical talent and the other with their incredible strength and fighting abilities. Meanwhile, in Bruce's room...

BOOM

A cloud of smoke starts to fly, and from within it comes young Bruce, with his hair slightly burnt.

[Main Pov]

"Oh my God, what have I just done? I was such an idiot, how could I mess up such a simple experiment? Now my room is a mess."

I look to the side and see the mirror in my room, see my reflection, my hair all messy and my face full of soot. My clothes also burned a bit, but at least I didn't get hurt. The burnt clothes and smoke won't be gone anytime soon.

I look at the failed experiment and start reflecting on what I did wrong, sitting on my dusty bed and going over my steps up until this point...

After breakfast with my mother and brother, I went to my room to study a bit and test some chemical experiments, exercising not only my body but also my mind. Today I was trying to create a chemical mixture to see if I could get an interesting reaction, it was a very simple reaction, but it used hard-to-find chemical elements. However, since we are in the early 20th century, a time when, with money, you can even buy a Radium, getting a bit of acid and sodium is easy enough.

The experiment was based on a combination of sulfuric acid and sodium nitrate, or at least that's what was supposed to happen. Apparently, mixing these two ingredients would result in an exothermic reaction.

At least that's what was written in the book I borrowed from the library. Fortunately, my father is very wealthy, and because of that, we have access to the best school in Chicago. And because of that, I can even read the original books of Germain Henry Hess, one of the patrons of thermochemistry.

The experiment was supposed to have worked. I followed all the instructions carefully, or at least I thought I had. I added the acid to the nitrate and waited anxiously for a reaction, but nothing happened. No smoke, no heat, nothing. I was a bit frustrated, and since I was already irritated because I couldn't go hunting at night, I thought about adding a bit more acid to see if that would make any difference.

But that's when everything went wrong. The mixture began to bubble and suddenly exploded in a cloud of smoke. It happened so fast that I didn't even have time to move away. Now, here I am, looking at the remnants of my failed experiment, trying to understand what went wrong. I get up from my bed with an epiphany and start doing a calculation using a chalk on the wall of my room.

Technical-scientific content warning. If you don't like it, skip this part...

Firstly, I begin to write the equation of the reaction between sodium nitrate and sulfuric acid, which in this case is:

NaNO3 + H2SO4 → NaHSO4 + HNO3

I realized that I added too much acid, which caused an overproduction of nitric acid and caused the explosion. I feel stupid for not remembering that the experiment needed to be done in a fume hood. But now, I know what went wrong, and I won't make the same mistake again.

2 NaNO3 + H2SO4 -> Na2SO4 + 2 HNO3

This means that 2 moles of sulfuric acid would be necessary to completely react with 2 moles of sodium nitrate

End of the technical-scientific content.

It was only after a few minutes that I realized my calculation for the amount of acid was wrong. It was a small distraction, a moment of carelessness that caused all this trouble.

Now, I have to clean all this up before my mom comes home and kills me. I guess I'll never try to do chemical experiments in my room again. Maybe I should find a proper lab to experiment with these things. Actually, I need to figure out a way to build my own lab.

I need to try to find a way to make money; I can't always depend on my dad. Besides, I want to enjoy as many pleasures as money can bring in this life.

I have many problems that need to be solved, and money is the first on the list, with the second being money as well. But most importantly, I need to ensure my own protection.

I was fixing the broken things in my room while thinking of ways to make money. After finishing, I went to change clothes. I thought to myself that it would have been easier to make money if I were born a few years earlier.

A few years ago, I could have invested in companies like General Electric, Standard Oil, or Ford. But now, General Electric is already an established company, Standard Oil no longer exists, and Ford is also established.

It was thinking about this that I came up with the idea of investing in something that was just starting out, like the leisure industry.
