"Hello. I want to meet the person in ward 208." I asked politely, offering my visiting card. She took my card and wandered her fingers on the keyboard. "Moon Fowler? Am I right, Ma'am?" I nodded and answer;
"Yes. I'm a cousin of a relative." She nodded and replied. "You can meet the patient, Ma'am." I held my visiting card and walked through the hallway then took right with a sorrowful face. My eyes flew and passed the window of the ward door. I looked at her, lying helplessly and surviving on an oxygen mask. Holding on her fractured right hand and left knee. How the hell did she end up here, man?
Filled with misery, I turned around and my soul bloomed. The figures pointed eyes crossed across my heart splashing into pieces. I smiled out in bitter experience. "Hi. Taeng."
Her extreme aura raised to peak and suddenly fell to down, somehow, quacking me in boots. She folded her hands below her chest and scrutinized me from top to bottom just to end the things in brief. "You weren't welcomed, Moon." I lined my lips and tilted my head.
"Says who? It's your Mom herself who welcomed me, Taeng." She knotted her eyebrows and asked with a sharp exhale.
"My Mom? Do you consider me timid?" Her eyes narrowed in fierceness. I tossed my hands in trousers pockets and answered again with a grin.
"Who's against those words now?"
"Hey! Are you here to pick up a fight with me, huh?" I gave a surprised look and smiled beneath my breath. Licked my lips and walked gradually closer to her. And whispered,
"C'mon, Taeng. Let's be honest to each other, we aren't even, yes?. I mean you backstabbed me and I hadn't done anything to you yet." I stood straight with a smirk. "I can do anything to your family to compensate for my vengeance, Taeng Chirapaisarnsakul."
Her eyes widened. I turned around and walked into the attached ward. I locked it and glared at Taeng through the window of the door. Suddenly, she held the door knob and tried to open it but it was locked by me. "Hey! Moon! Open the door!"
Her voice wasn't audible inside the other ward. I just don't wanna give any shit to her words either. Things around me were quiet and peaceful unless I screened the chair and sat. His eyes opened in ache and I flashed a bright smile. His head turned towards me and eyes flashed in astonishment. His heartbeat began to race in metres when I held his hand in mine.
"How are you doing, Kylan?" I smiled.
Fixing his breath, he tried his best to speak but fatigue, his body didn't support him at all. "Counting on your days, handsome? Should I help you by reducing your lifetime, Kylan Chirapaisarnsakul?" I understood that I only worsened his condition more than enough. I kept my hand on my mouth and laughed hard behind it. He kept on struggling under the medical wires thinking I came to kill him.
My actual aim was that, until a day later, I encountered your Mom begging for help. You know, I have the calm heart of my birth dad's nonetheless I personally never considered helping her but inside I already made a sole decision.
"You wanna pay for the patient in ward 208, Ma'am?" The woman in reception asked dubiously. Man, do I look like I'm joking around, huh?
"Yes."
"But, Ma'am, aren't you just the cousin of the patient…"
"You wanna take it or not! I'm not here for explanations!" I roared and she immediately took the money. Waved her fingers on the keyboard in a flash, keeping an end to the discussion.
...
"Hey, Dad. I'm home." I said, removing my shoes. "Welcome home, Baby." Huh… Mom? I was in awe and moved into the kitchen but my eyes came down when I found my Dad… instead of my Mom. I said plainly,
"Your wife hasn't come yet?"
"You know how stubborn she is, right? We need to get her back, Moon." He somehow became expressionless. For some reason, I miss old Uncle Ren. Only if Mom could consider the present scenarios.
"You know I can't go to that house just to bring your wife." Lie. I can go there if you ask me to.
I'm not the only daughter of my birth Dad but also you. You're just a simple person who can fly in the air just by hearing me call you 'Dad'. Don't you have any wishes? Don't you want your daughter to down her dignity for your happiness? Don't you want your daughter to vanquish her vengeance 'cause you wanna shake hands with her foes?
You just have to spell, I can kneel down to my foes if that is worth seeing your wife. Not just for my Mom, I can burn this world for you if that could put a smile on you. "Your Mom too, Moon!"
"Don't scream! You're not miles away from me!"
"Get her! If you want dinner tomorrow night!" That's it now. I'm gonna get her back. No matter what it costs me to. I will, Dad.
"Rennnn!"
"Yes, Moonnnn!"
Uh, c'mon, man! While he was making dinner I suddenly recalled the flashbacks of my birth Dad making dinner with my Mom. They were a great couple but destiny wasn't written in their journey. I walked to Uncle Ren and embraced him from behind.
"What happened, Moon?"
"I'm missing him, Dad. I wish he could hear me but…" He patted my head and softly responded.
"His blessings will always be upon you, Moon." I gave a bitter smile and nodded my head. I made my head way over his shoulder. He's warm… "A penny for your thoughts?" He replied, stirring the veggies. I kept staring at those veggies until he patted on my forehead. His eyes flew onto me and so did mine.
"What does it mean to be a… good daughter, Dad?" I lowered my eyes when I saw him giving a short smile. My eyes filled in tenebrosity couldn't actually find a way to face him after such a timid query.
"Get out of that murk, Moon." I looked at him, puzzled. He smiled and replied, "You don't have to be a good daughter, Moon. I like you the way you are." I pulled my head into his corner of the neck and hid my blush. I could hear his soft chuckle and my heart throbbed out. His veiny hand caressed my hair, making me crawl for his love.
Wait, what?!
I immediately moved backwards. Scolding myself for having such sinful thoughts about my step-father. How gross you are, Moon! "What happened, Moon?" He called me in concern when my body shivered after the thoughts dashing in my skull.
"N-Nothing!" Holding my head down, I immediately rushed upstairs. What an embarrassment! I pinned my back to the door, holding my heart in between my palms. For a moment, I would've cultivated unnecessary dark thoughts about him. I wish I was vanished into cosmic dust for a period! Argh!
Then, a soft knock played, jerking my whole body out of the door. "Moon, dinner is ready." I opened the door and he gave his as usual bright smile. "I got you, Dad." As I closed the door, I was left with awestruck when he gave me a hand to hold on.
I blinked twice. Damn, I'm super confused. He then bent towards me and my eyes opened wide but I lost my self control when he held my hand. Making me walk downstairs. Any kind of drama scene? Bewilderment!
"Dad, have some meat." I put it in his bowl. He smiled and felt bewildered. "What is that smile for, Young Man?" Taking the slight bite of the meat, he said. "Because you proved that you're a good daughter."
"And, how?"
"By helping your ex-aunt." Wide-eyed, I kept gazing at him until he observed me. "I know my daughter very well. My friend was a great father, he raised another Kawin." I smiled, pulling my head down. He is.
"Should we meet him tomorrow?"
"Sure, Dad."
