Kabul Airport isn't too far from downtown Kabul, but Afghanistan is poor with a sparse population, so the road from the airport to the city center is definitely not bustling, and not many people live along it.
A segment of the road that was repaired by Americans, its condition isn't great but not too terrible either, although it isn't asphalt, it's compacted gravel, with the only problem being a bit too much dust.
Then, along this road, houses are sparsely scattered, with some sections denser and others less so, but basically, the houses roughly occupy the spaces on both sides of the road.
Furthermore, Afghanistan is mountainous terrain, but Kabul is located in a valley amidst the mountains in a desert terrain, which means that although the surroundings of Kabul are flat, the lack of irrigation conditions means there is little vegetation on the sides of the roads, nor are there gullies and water facilities interlaced.
