Her innate pride made her want to say "no, thank you," but this big brother was no ordinary person; she could feel he genuinely wanted to help her. However, she couldn't bring herself to utter "thank you" and simply pressed her lips together as she looked at him.

The young man shut the car door and started the engine.
The little girl looked at the shopping bag in her hand.
